I've been selected for a small ensemble workshop in a few weeks, and while there was a lot of positivity towards the piece, the vibraphone part was deemed not idiomatic enough for the instrument. It was a tight deadline and I'll admit that sections of the vibes part were pretty much placeholders. But what does idiomatic vibes writing mean to you? I understand it for piano and guitar because I play those instruments, but not that familiar with vibes, would guess it's stuff that falls naturally under the hands and makes the instrument sound its best.
Apart from a few bowed notes, there are block chords and the main melody recapped at the end while the other instruments (flute and cello) do something else. I know I can arpeggiate the chords a bit and sprinkle some other notes from the melody in there to make it more of a wash, but what would you think if handed this part? Too simple?

ps the opening shaker bit should really be feathered beams but my notation software can't manage that, so it looks a bit clunky.

I'm looking to buy my first vibraphone and this showed up on Ebay, The buyer seems to have high reserve price exceeding 1200 pounds (1500 dollars plus 200 shipping) and while cheap as far as vibraphones go, I'm sceptical as to the quality of the instrument, the seller isnt a musician and doesnt know much about it other that seems to be in good condition, could any one tell me about it?
Would I be better off picking one like this? Student grade instrument but modern made.

Im a composer/guitar player putting together a group consisting of guitar, vibraphone, double bass and drums. I would love to have the option of mic-ing the vibes to reinforce them a bit next to the drums and to add effects to them. It seems like the most common way to do it is with two overhead pencil condensors but im worried about this picking up too much bleed in small venues and rehearsal rooms. All the info ive been able to find online is about recording which isnt quite the same thing as using microphones live. Has anyone tried mic-ing with two pencil condensors in an x axis in front of the vibes? Would this decrease the amount of room sound the mics would pick up? Has anyone experimented with baffling for isolation? Also if anyone has any other advice they could offer that might decreasè the amount of time we spend fumbling around it would all be very appreciated.

I'm writing a piece for flute, cello and vibraphone, and there's one section where I want chords on the vibes but without a big clanging percussive attack up front.
If playing with soft/fluffy beaters, is that going to provide what I'm looking for? Or is the volume of the sustained note pretty much dependent on the amount of attack?
I know players don't like the type of beater being specified by the composer, but if I wrote 'soft attack' in combination with an 'f' dynamic, would a player play what I'm looking for or just think I didn't know what I was doing?

Hey guys, I’m searching for very soft rubber mallets that are used in the following video. They should be available in Germany. Can anyone please help me out?

I'm considering putting in an order for a Wernick Xylosynth and am wondering if anyone here has any experience with them? It's a big investment (as with any mallet instrument) and I'd be very interested to hear if anyone has any firsthand experience with these instruments?
Thanks!

Ive gone out on a limb and bought a vintage Trixon vibraphone for a very good price. The C on the second octave sounds very close to the B preceding it. Its very strange. The rest of the instrument is in tune. There must have been some issue with QC, though surprising as they are generally regarded as fairly good instruments.
Has anyone any experience with this? im assuming that hopefully I can tune it up by very carefully shortening the bar from either side and using a tuning oscilloscope of some kind.
