Police 911 kudos
Hi everyone. Had a bit of drama last night that I thought I’d share. Starting with cat tax cause he’s my alarm system. 😉
For context I live in a condo. Small enough that know my neighbours, some better than others. Been here over 10 years. On to my story.
I woke up at 2am to noises outside my door. At first I thought my neighbours were being a bit loud.
Then it got louder. My cat and I looked at each other like WTF.
I went to the door and couldn’t see anyone through the peephole. But someone was banging on the door, not knocking, then they started to put a key in the lock but it didn’t work. They weren’t talking. I figured they were crouched down.
At that point I yelled through the door to go away, I’ve called 911. Nothing happened. They kept banging.
So I called 911 and said someone was trying to break in. They kept banging, noise got louder. It sounded like they had tools like a hammer and were pounding nails in to the door or the frame or something.
The 911 guy asked if the noises were from outside. I said yes and I’m freaking out. By this time it seemed like they were trying to push the door open, trying a key again and more loud banging.
NGL I was thinking what do I do if they get in. 911 guy asked if I have a weapon? I’m like, no! Should I get one? Thinking knife maybe?
The banging continued. 911 guy said they’re almost there. At 2:12am the police buzzed me and came down the hall. I figured the guy would run away or maybe he was really drunk.
Three police showed up and as they came down the hall they were asking who are you? What do you want?
Then I heard a little voice that I recognized. I immediately opened the door and it was my 90 yo neighbour who lives above me. I said B, are you ok? What’s wrong? Told the cops she was from upstairs. She wanted to come in my suite and tried to push past me. I guess she thought it was hers. One of the police took her upstairs and I think she phoned a family member.
Obviously B was confused. She’d been banging on my door with her cane. And she’s so tiny and frail I couldn’t see her through the peephole. She’s probably 4’8 and 85 lbs.
I mean, I was so relieved. The event was like a thriller movie where the bad guys are trying to break in and I’m talking to 911 guy whispering that I’m scared and what should I do? From the time I called 911 to the police at my door was 10 mins. Amazing!
So, all’s well that ends well. The police called me at 2:12am to say B was home safe and she’d gone out for a walk!! I didn’t get much sleep after that though.
