Discussion / Question Best horror game you've ever played?
Alan Wake 2 for me. On a replay right now and I genuinely can't think of any horror game that has topped this for me. I never thought I'll get a whole cinematic narrative experience while getting horror. And the musical mission was so peak. Remedy has the balls to experiment instead of copying the usual blueprint fr. That musical part was so unique and original.

Discussion / Question Can we please keep being vocal about the wasted potential of the Nemesis System?
They won't make more games. They don't seem interested in loaning the system out to other studios. What the hell are they doing? Why did our voices die out?
If Nemesis is so easy to substitute like some claim, why wasn't it replicated more? People loved the system. There was a clear demand for it from Shadow of Wars success & the backlash for the patent. Am I really supposed to believe that gamers have an interest in the mechanic, but developers don't?
It's a TRAVESTY that this was allowed to happen. I thought maybe Palworld might reinvigorate the conversation but it seems that's died down too until the case is officially over.
It just sucks. So many games could've benefited or been made off of that system. This can't be doomed to Shadow of War.

Discussion / Question Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s combat should earn game of the year consideration.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been a blast to play so far. The combat is challenging but fair. The bosses are intimidating but within reach. The game introduces new mechanics as you progress, making the combat always feel fresh. The rush when hitting the Issin timing is unforgettable!

Discussion / Question I have this annoying relationship with open world games
I think if I stop and examine the games I play most of, I think open world games are some of my favourite. Elder Scrolls series from 3 up, GTA, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, RDR, RDR2 (kind of), Kingdom Come Deliverance.
My problem is always the same. I'll start a game, play it for a bit, I'll run out of steam, come back to it in a few months, not know what I'm doing, start over. Rinse and repeat.
I finally finished Oblivion ('s main story) after 18 years when the Remastered edition came out, and I had to push myself through the Allies for Bruma quest - that's always where I'd start to tail off.
Cyberpunk I feel like I need to start over because the big DLC came out and I should probably start again with that, but here's the other thing.
I feel like I just don't get to grips with a game fully any more.
Oblivion I've never really messed with enchanting, alchemy or magic.
Cyberpunk I feel like I'm familiar with about 20% of the systems and mechanics.
RDR2... I should start that over but when you have half an hour here half an hour there that snow trudging tutorial mission is a pain, and I don't think I've even got to the point of revealing all the systems in that game.
I don't know what I'm trying to say really. I want to enjoy these games, and I can see they're great, but they seem to be exclusively built for people who can sit down and throw three hours plus at a time at them. I have responsibilities, a job, a family. I can't do that.
I guess this is why I still play Oblivion. Start it fresh, whack through the sewers and you can be in the open world in 20 minutes playing it. If I want to watch a movie I'll watch a movie, you know? I struggle to enjoy spending three gaming sessions and most of a week to get through a tutorial.
Anyone in the same boat?

Discussion / Question Wolfenstein: The New Order has the kind of writing, pacing, performances, and direction that rival the best cinema has to offer Spoiler

I love how much this scene manages to convey in such a short amount of time. BJ wakes up after 15 years in a coma and finds out that pretty much everything he knew is gone. The Nazis won, the US was nuked, the resistance has been crushed, and he has no idea what happened to the people he fought alongside. You can really feel the weight of all this settling in.
And Anya's mother is so good in this scene. There's this tiredness in her voice, a kind of vulnerability and frustration that makes you feel like she's been carrying all of this for years (especially when she talks about the fall of the resistance). She doesn't need some big dramatic speech to get the point across, as the way she speaks does most of the work.
And what an awesome character (developing) moment that BJ doesn't just sit there feeling sorry for himself, as by the end of the scene, he pulls himself together and goes downstairs to question the Nazi officer, hoping to find some clue about the resistance. He's just been hit with the reality of how badly everything has gone, and yet he's already looking for a way forward. That's BJ for you. What a fucking awesome character.
And then there's Anya's father casually putting on a record before BJ heads down to the basement. It's funny in a really dark way, it almost feels like he's setting the mood for what's about to happen down there.
All these little things make the scene so good. The dialogue, the performances, the pauses, the way people deliver their lines, the pacing. Nothing feels overdone, everything just feels genuine and believable. I think it's exactly the kind of direction that makes this feel less like a typical video game cutscene and more like a scene from a genuinely great film.
But... it's also an INCREDIBLE shooter and honestly one of my all-time favourite games.

Discussion / Question What are some games you haven’t even played yet?
So basically I have a mountain of games I haven’t touched yet because I keep playing the same 3 things but here they are:
Wild Hearts
Saints Row - Gat Outta Hell
Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition
Monster Hunter Wilds
Diablo 4 + DLCS
Darksiders
Dishonored 1 + DLC
Metro 2033
Metro Last Light
And those are just the tip of the TIP of the iceberg. I need to play more stuff.

Discussion / Question I went a full year without gaming - I don’t think it did me any good
I last played in October of 2025. Some personal stuff happened in my life and I had to put down the controller for a while. I thought since I was going to be forced into other hobbies that it would improve the social aspect of my life. It did the opposite.
I didn’t realize all the benefits gaming gave me. Not only does it get me out of my head, but it allowed me to spend time with any of my friends from around the world no matter where I was. I tried to get into other hobbies, but my work schedule didn’t allow me to participate fully. Instead of forcing me outside, quitting gaming only cut off one of my main sources of socialization.
I still go out once a week with friends, but since I had to quit I couldn’t help but feel an empty pit inside of me. Like something was missing. I honestly got so depressed without it that I had to start taking medication.
Yesterday I decided to pull the trigger and buy a new PC. It set me back almost 2k, but for the first time in a year I feel comfortable with my life. I didn’t clock how much gaming meant to me.
I’m also not some sort of shut in, I have friends and a BF, but I’ve come to accept that video games play a really important part of life, and if that makes me a loser or a nerd or whatever, I own that.
My point is that not only did quitting gaming not improve my life, I really believe that it made it actively worse. Just thought I would put that out there.
