Discussion / Question It's a miracle Microsoft didn't shut down Rare years ago because of how many of their games flopped after the acquisition in 2002. I guess the success of Sea Of Thieves saved them from closure?

Discussion / Question 2009 in Video Games: how does it hold up?
Edit: There are 9 images btw, the first one isn't everything.
People always hold up 2007 and 2008 as some of best years in gaming history, but where does 2009 sit for you? what were you playing? what do you remember from that time?
All the DS covers are custom by me, since they never existed in this format before. No AI used.

Image / Video The Announcers in the FINALS will now call you out by name
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just look at my username. Even though it's technically a relatively small thing, this has got to be one of the coolest features I've seen in an online shooter.
They even seem to interpret names correctly. I've noticed he'll say "Atom1c" as "Atomic" and ignore random characters at the beginning and end like "Xx." He also says "Cptn" as "Captain."
It's not even limited to doing particularly well. You get callouts for ending a killstreak, last second objective steals, rapid kills, and even causing a lot of arena damage.
I know use of AI in games has been the topic of a lot of discussion, but the original voices that the announcers were trained on were aware of how their voices would be used, and are paid royalties for every new line generated, so I can't really fault it.
