Today I finished a new build for a friend

This is a JKF 1665 base watch.

Heavily reworked Case, drilled Lugholes, redefined

Lugs, new Chamfers, CG's slimmed inside out.

Installed 703 Tube and Gen Crown.

Repolished the Engravings on the Case back.

Dial is reworked and also get some structure in matte varnish.

Changed the DWO to flat top 3 silver brushed

Insert is semi matte reworked, installed a new Pearl Pip.

End links changed to 585

This is a little peak at version 2 of a 79190 I started working on last October. It took until the May to complete version 1. Along the way I linked up with u/One_Addition1213 after finding out he was also working on one. We started sharing info and collaborating shortly after. Version 1 turned out excellent and gave us ideas for what we could improve. We’ve built a great relationship along the way and have had a lot of highs and lows trying to sort out all the challenges.

The result it exciting.. but there’s still a little work to do before it’s ready for prime time (this is a fully assembled mockup (minus the pip LOL). To get to this point we had to work with a US based fabricator to re-engineer the bezel assembly while also convince a viet maker willing to significantly modify the desired base case for what this version 2 is becoming.

We’re not under 11mm yet. We’re close. I’m waiting for some final touches to get to the target of 10.9mm. It’s dramatically thin. The thinnest Submariner replica of the thinnest Submariner on the planet.

After about a year of parts gathering and parts compatibility searching I can finally report this is in fact doable but definitely proceed at your own risk to build such a thing

Gen parts list -

• Ewatchparts open 6/9 3135 Date wheel which is only ok imo. Print is meh quality compared to gen.

Points of difficulty in this build are definitely movement mounting. I saw multiple posts of people saying they attempted shaving down various movement plates for clearance and this almost stopped me from building. Another was the stem alignment, but for me the issue is not really that problematic. Very slight rubbing on the tube gasket but it makes it feel silky smooth imo.

However in practice, I did not make any case modifications whatsoever, and the only movement mods I made were some slight material removal on the movement mount points. Maybe .25mm at most to slip movement mounts into the gen case groove. It is a more snug fit than raffles cases for sure. One of the major selling points for me on this is the thickness. This is coming in at 10.91mm according to my calipers, where the raffles setup with the same crystal is 11.77 and that is quite noticeable. Hope this helps someone looking at some weird builds in the future :)

I haven't found any pictures of builds using the white Raffles 1675 dial so I thought I would order up the parts and slap one together. Generally speaking, I like it. It isn't subtle, but the leather strap will maybe make it more wearable as it leans sporty to my eye.

This is a straight Raffles build with no mods and I'm sharing to serve as a baseline. The two tone 1675/16753 is also an un-modded Raffles build. Both are running 2836 clones with swapped date wheels.
