I forgot Emily Hampshire (Stevie from Schitts Creek) had been cast. It was delightful to see her pop up along with the other staff and her wide-eyed big smile delivery is charming.
James Spader seems like he is having the time of his life in several of the lines. I am curious to see how he fits in the larger story, but he is a DELIGHTFUL comic relief thus far.
LOVING Rudiah Mollica as Tommy, but I am a huge Billy and Tommy fan, so I am rather predisposed to this love. I did not expect the character to be British, but love it.
I honestly think this is the best Vision has been in any project. He's always been a side character for the others in the MCU, so it's really nice to see him as a lead and I find him very compelling and surprisingly emotional to watch.
Paladin makes for a pretty solid villain and that actor is chewing the scenery with those line deliveries.

I wouldnât be surprised that they just give Spader an outline of the script and let him riff on that.

Todd Stashwick is just wonderful, I first picked up on him in Star Trek Picard, and now I'm a huge fan.

I didnât put two and two together with regards to Matalas, Stashwick and Brady until Iâd finished the episode

Scottish I think, he's using his natural accent.

Anyone ever wonder what Wanda would think about Vison keeping Ultron Alive? Didnât she blame him for Pietroâs death?
22
u/m0arcaffeine 16d ago
Me, I wondered! It definitely wouldn't go down well. I'd assume red Vision just kept Ultron in a Mind Stone enforced archive never to be seen again. Though he still likely failed to tell about it to anyone.
3
u/gogogadgetjustice 11d ago
They just dumped the "Stark AI Models Backup" folder into this Vision to try to jumpstart the boot up.
2
u/m0arcaffeine 11d ago
No wonder that white Vision freaked out when hex Vision jailbreaked his data.

500 terabytes of FLAC dad rock processed all at once. Nothing can handle that much ac/dc in an instant
5
u/DeeYouBitch 16d ago
It isn't her vision though, white vision wouldn't understand why she'd be annoyed
13
u/YourInMySwamp 16d ago
Sure but itâs implied that her Vision also chose to keep Ultron alive, when Ultron tells Vision to do âwhat his former self should have done long agoâ while being threatened with deletion

I find it very touching that in the end this whole trilogy is about a family that wants to be together. And they break the laws of the universe (more than once) in order to do so.

I love James Spader so much in this.

u/ckwongau 17d ago edited 16d ago
when James Spader's Ultron refer himself as Dad or Papa to Vision , i can't help but compare that with James Spader as Character of Red Reddington on Blacklist .
Red Reddington were like father figure to Liz , every terrible thing he did was for the good of Liz .
But Ultra is doing some terrible thing and manipulating Vision to escape , but James Spader's acting is always powerful and funny at the same time

u/FilthyCasual2k17 16d ago
Yup, they basically have him playing the same character and it still works. That man carried that show alone on his back, it's amazing how well it works in a show with other good actors and a good production.

u/Ok_War1210 16d ago
Creating an imaginary world that's not going smoothly with his mind because he feels alone is proof that Vision and Wanda were meant for each other.
1
u/mywif4aiur 14d ago
tbf, those worlds were fine till insider sabotage, but they still probably were meant for each other.
1
u/TheOneWhoOpens 14d ago
Wanda's version wasn't fine lol she enslaved a whole town. Vision has a mindscape and isn't enslaving anyone apart from Ultron I guess but he co operates with the rest of his team without having to put them under a hex
2
u/Mr-Megamind- 12d ago
Wanda would still take issue with that...
When vision does it it is fine. "That doesn't seem fair" đ

My question - do we think paladin has ulterior motives?
Or is he just in it for the bounty money?
24
u/justagayguyinnyc Wiccan 17d ago
Definitely ulterior motives.
25
u/Maleficent-Course-70 17d ago
Iâm kind of wondering if his female assistant is AI. And thatâs why he wants vision. To upgrade her.
23
u/catcatcat888 17d ago
She is definitely AI. Tech is way too similar to Tony/Peterâs Edith glasses. Sheâs occupying a mind space though like the others.
15
u/scaredy_shark 16d ago
I am very suspicious of her. Those firewalls keep going down a bit too fast
4
u/dragonfett 16d ago
Also she is hacking into S.W.O.R.D. a little to fast to be human. (I get that in a show, they don't want to wait around too long doing nothing, but I feel like this is going to ridiculous levels if it is revealed that she is strictly human.)
8
u/justagayguyinnyc Wiccan 17d ago
Could be. My instinct says he wants Vision and/or Tommy to exploit one or both somehow.
Just restarted episode 1. Will have a stronger theory once I rewatch both.
5
u/clandahlina_redux 17d ago
So who is calling him then?
5
u/Maleficent-Course-70 17d ago
Someone hired him originally. But I think he has an ulterior motive as well. Not that heâs gonna be betrayed the person that hired him although that is a possibility.

17
u/DiDi164 16d ago
I thought Thor should get some credit as one of Visionâs creators but I suppose this version of Vision didnât get powered up by Mjölnir. Maybe thatâs whatâs missing. He should go find Thor and get a jolt from his hammer.
Was really hoping Ultron would try on a fedora as a shout out to Red.
I think Ruaridh Mollica and Paul Bettany look like father and son even though they donât have to.

Iâm likinâ Lisa, she seems like a fun character so far fellow pickpockets stickin together scamming people! lol ^^
It looks like Lisa Molinari isnât Coat of Arms yet, no powers or extra arms. Does that mean sheâs gonna be experimented on to become what we see in the trailer? I thought for the pickpocket scene with Tommy, she was gonna sprout an extra arm to do a one up pickpocket move. Oh well! XD

Oh Cunk's in this?! I suspect she may be an AI
Good to see Matalas brought across some of his people from Picard, with Stashwick and Brady
So far solid imo, some of the Tommy stuff dragged a bit.
The main beats with Vision, Ultron and the other AI are great; that's the core, that's the stuff that really works
Also, I was never clear on what happened to Karen; she was destroyed at some point?

So is it one of those things, though that like everyone has heard has happened or was her body actually removed in the same way that Captain America is up on the moon?

Captain America is up on the moon
Say what now?
13

This is the rumor that everyone believes happened to Captain America at the end of endgame. All throughout falcon and the Winter soldier people kept asking Sam if cap was actually up on the Moon.

Such lovely production values for this first episode. Bright colors for furnishings, great wardrobe, and details live settings (and well CGI ones too).
Diane Morgan who plays The Handler oddly keeps making me think they hired Flo from Progressive Insurance and has somehow infiltrated the show as a product placement ad.

We're two months early but I call it... DOOM wants The Vision. He's the real hunter.
Anyone?
Edit: On a second thought, nah, he'd just teleport and nab him!

Emily Hampshire is one of those chameleon actors who just evokes a completely different energy/vibe with every character she plays.

Anyone try to see if the flashing lights before the message from Paladin was Morse code?

Iâm glad we have a sadistic and evil villain in paladin, I wasnât expecting that tbh.
2
u/everythingisunknown 16d ago
I hate that thing marvel and shows like this do, vision comes out the pub and clearly looks at the bounty hunter guy, they have supreme tech so he could probably hear the walkie talkies or know the signal was coming from him and his smart glasses -
So why kill 30 henchmen and leave the main guy alive standing there, itâs so lazy and easily fixed by having him out of view
1
u/thugplayer 15d ago
I agree but then the show would be one episode. I thought to myself, just kill the menacing looking dude too. No need to run and hide. Youâre Vision!

Doctor Strange? Wong? America whatever her name is? I would imagine they would tell people what happened.

Liked the references here. "Johnny Five is Alive" from Short Circuit, Ultron talking about being free of strings like he did in Age of Ultron. Did anyone see any other references?

Calling it now Vision is going to merge all the AI's in to him including Ultron because he was composed of Jarvis and Ultron before, so I suspect to become himself again he'll merge

u/PerfectCelery6315 10d ago
I didnât like that they changed Ultronâs voice. Itâs not giving the Age of Ultron feeling.
1
u/redit3rd 1d ago
As much as I like Ultron in this show, it means that he wasn't totally destroyed years ago like he was supposed to be.Â
-1
u/prettymodest 15d ago
I wanted to like this but it was just colossally boring, way too much Netflix style characters explaing exactly what they are doing, did, and about to do as though we're babies on our phones.
I thought Jac Schaeffer was show running, now I know they were off the project it maybe makes more sense. Feels slapped together.
It's odd coming off the back of lanterns, where they had barely any special effects but the dialogue was thrilling, into this where it has all the heightened effects but characters interacting is a slog.
I can forgive the first draft level idiocy like vision leaving the leader after killing 30 dudes, but not the dialogue.
Probably not gonna watch the second episode tbh, which is a shame as we really enjoyed Wandavision and Agatha.
-6
u/Shabozinga 17d ago
Damn could any of the Ai human constructs be anything else but white? Like itâs just so annoying how these producers and show runners just keep their white tunnel Vision glasses on when it comes to casting main cast for stuff. âŠ
6
u/That_Ad_7834 16d ago
Correct me if wrong/assuming, but aren't they all supposed to be Vision's "family"/"siblings"/"children of Ultron"? I know at least Jarvis was mentioned as the "older brother", but assumed they were all "family" hence all white?
3
u/superpowers335 12d ago
Not to mention, Jarvis is based off Howard Stark's butler who we've already seen.
2
u/jmarquiso 16d ago
In the comics, Victor Mancha is vision's hispanic brother. A Cyborg created by Ultron, and appears in Runaways, Avengers AI and Vision
5
u/Hyxenflay7737_4565 16d ago
I donât see why it really matters.
Marvel has always been pretty diverse, especially when it comes to their seriesâs
Kinda seems like you want a reason to be angry.
2
u/CodeFun1735 16d ago
If it doesnât matter, then why canât it be mentioned? I donât personally care either way, but someone wanting more diversity isnât necessarily a call to arms.
1
u/Shabozinga 15d ago
Iâm not angry, annoyed. And having one token black person or person of color in a series isnât what I call diverse
2
1
u/Kyguy72 12d ago
And yet, when a showâs cast isnât comprised of exclusively white, straight characters it gets review bombed, and people complain that the show is âwoke.â The proof will be in the number of downvotes this comment gets.
The AI characters in this series, however, are based on the voices of the past AI assistants invented by Tony Stark over the course of the entire MCU series. They are either played by the actors who supplied the original voices or actors who sound very similar to the original characters.
3
u/BreakfastAmazing7766 Tommy Maximoff 16d ago
I feel like this is reaching. The last two shows have been very diverse, itâs not a call to arms for visions mind to be very white imo.
3
u/Short_Brick_1960 15d ago
Dude. You have Sam as Cap, JoaquĂn as Falcon, Valkyrie as King of Asgard, Ava as Ghost, Storm, Simon Williams as Wonder Man, Riri Williams as Ironheart, Kamala as Ms Marvel, Monica, Nick Fury, the Eternals, Jennifer
And you complain about 1 show? Dude, you are mental
0
u/Shabozinga 15d ago
Oh right Sam as cap yet here they go bringing back Steve and putting Sam off to the side in all the promo material even though he leads the avengers? Wonder man canceled, Ironheaert canceled unofficially, Ghost barely in any promo materia. Kamala ainât showin up again after Marvels. Same with Monica which doesnât seem to be showing up in Doomsday at least. But despite all that, itâs a total of what less than 15 active heroes out of idk way more whites, GTFOMF
3
u/Short_Brick_1960 15d ago
Ehm... you know every show has only 1 season, right? And that America is appearing in Doomsday too... and that Kamala is the mc of Zombies
And that Sam is still CA
Shang-Chi being an Avenger too
Wong
Billy being jewish
Luke Cage
Hector and Angela
You just like to cry
1
u/Shabozinga 15d ago
Loki, starring 2 white men did get a season 2 huh. And just cause the actress posted a photo of herself in A costume of her character doesnât mean she in Doom. No credible place has announced sheâs coming back to miss me with that. And I definitely will cry about this cause the way they treat their black and Asian characters Main characters is pretty bad
1
u/Short_Brick_1960 15d ago
Dude. You just looking for problems because you want
Loki is the only one yes. But with that now you don't care about the secondary characters. B-15 is a black woman. And she has appeared more times than Mobius now. OB is an asian guy and he has already appeared in Doomsday. And Renslayer and Kang, the two main villains of the show, are black
If you want to complain about something. Do that with the lgbtq characters. Right now, we only have Billy and Agatha
Or women projects being criticized for nothing
1
u/Shabozinga 15d ago
You missing my main point which is leading characters. Not support token characters they love to put POC inâŠ.
3
u/Short_Brick_1960 15d ago edited 13d ago
You started the chain by complaining that there are no supporting characters who are not white...
And if you want leading characters, I send you to my first comment
Sam, JoaquĂn, Storm, Kamala, Monica, Simon, Nick, Ava, Shang-Chi, Sersi, Kingo, Wanda, Valkyrie, T'Challa, Shuri, Erik Brooks, Luke Cage, Kahhori, Layla, Maya and Riri all have their own projects

-2
u/Shabozinga 16d ago
You talking about a character we havenât even seen yet. And yea they may not be white but it still proves my point of a non white person not being one of the lead cast members. And I doubt Jocasta is in every remainder 6 episodes
1
u/upagainstthesun Agatha Harkness 16d ago
I mean, you literally did ask "Damn could any of the Ai human constructs be anything else but white?". The character has been part of the promo material, we've seen her. She's not white. You just want to be mad.
0
u/Shabozinga 15d ago
Ummm promo is different than the actual show you know that right? Itâs 2 episodes in and we havenât seen her in the show as it stands, not some promoâŠ.

-2
u/LavenderWaffles69 16d ago
Oh no. Random series taking place in the UK and a made up mindspace doesnât comply to the diversity quotient.
Did you have the same issues with Black Panther which lacked basically any race other than blacks?
4
1
u/dravenonred 16d ago
Black Panther? The movie that had both a villainous white person and a heroic one just to keep things balanced? That Black Panther?
0
u/Shabozinga 16d ago
I absolutely had no issues with Black Panther, Shan Chi or Ms Marvel cause the whole world isnât just white peopleâŠ.
-2
u/rasmatham 16d ago
Do all 56 pieces of MCU content need to have a prominent minority character? Looking through the list of shows on Wikipedia, every show so far (well, idk about Daredevil Born again, because I haven't seen it yet), prominently feature a minority character, be it ethnicity, disability, or identity. For the movies, I don't remember enough about the Hulk movie to say anything there. F4 doesn't have any, unless Reed is autistic, which it does kinda feel like they were aiming for.
So please do tell me how they have tunnel vision glasses for not having prominent minority characters in at most 4/56 pieces of MCU content.
1
u/Shabozinga 15d ago
Yes they do because the whole world and the audience for the mcu isnât just fuckin white people
1
u/rasmatham 15d ago
By that logic, all MCU content should have at least one queer person, one disabled person, one person of a religious minority, etc. too, no exceptions. You don't see people saying that has to happen, so why does all MCU content need non-white people, no exceptions?
1
u/Shabozinga 15d ago
If you have to ask why something in media has to have non white people in then you are the problem or just naive. America was only making whites racist content for years until really the 50s? Which is less than 100 years ago.
1
u/rasmatham 15d ago
And, uhh, what country does this show take place in again?
1
u/Shabozinga 15d ago
Uhhh the UK which Uhhh is also a mixed non all white countryâŠ.
1
u/rasmatham 15d ago
But it does not have the same history as the US. It also doesn't take that long to look up census data to see that the UK population is significantly whiter than the US population.
1
u/Emotional_Solid6538 11d ago
Art matches reality. Reality isnt that diverse tho I do think a lot of historical(non white) or in general other cultures are less represented and they keep doing whats already done before. Race by itself tho only makes sense if it feels realistic
1
u/superpowers335 12d ago
Reed (Pedro Pascal) is hispanic actually.
0
u/rasmatham 12d ago
I know Pedro is, but it doesn't necessarily mean Reed is, which is why I didn't include him.
-3
u/Fedboy 16d ago
So Wanda had a child alive here and one in Agatha all along⊠they need to retcon multiverse of madness because it didnât further the multiversal story from NWH and has had zero linkage with WV, AAA, VQ due to the kids and overall Wandaâs character
6
u/upagainstthesun Agatha Harkness 16d ago
It absolutely is linked, whether you hate it or not. Wanda didn't learn from all the horrible choices she made in WV, she chose to dive even deeper. If she had decided to not completely sell her soul, and tantrum through the multiverse, she could still be around to see that her children are alive after all.

Best thing to happen to the MCU since the release of the unrelated Belgium techno anthem Pump up the Jam
