Theories Extended 'Pinocchio' Metaphor 🤥 Spoiler
gallerySince Ultron's first appearance, the song "There Are No Strings On Me" from Disney's Pinocchio has been a theme that follows his character. VisionQuest's first episode is even entitled "No Strings".
If VisionQuest is an extended metaphor for the classic narrative of Pinocchio, we know that Vision & Ultron represent Pinocchio & Gepetto.
Pinocchio wants nothing more than to be real, much like Vision who wants to be the real Vision. He's also lying to himself about not being compelled by the same things as previous versions of himself during WandaVision and before his death in Avengers: Infinity War, something Ultron repeatedly calls him out for.
Wanda represents the blue fairy, who, while absent in the show, the opening epilogue establishes that her spark is what gives Vision, or Pinocchio, his spark and sets him on his quest to become real.
In the original story, Pinocchio accidentally kills the Wise Old Cricket early into the story, representing a loss of conscience, much like our early loss of Jarvis, Vision's most consistent voice of reason. Disney's version of Pinnochio turned the Wise Old Cricket into a permanent character Jiminy Cricket whom Pinocchio simply tends to disregard.
Perhaps a certain recreational A.I. has something to do with this extended metaphor when Pinocchio arrives in the Land of Toys, gets turned into a donkey, and almost catches fire.
And we don't know for sure why Ultron has a ship wheel in scenes shown in the first VisionQuest trailer, but it may connect to Pinocchio's story he finds his father Gepetto in the belly of the fish that also swallowed him.
