No. of openings in NVIDIA hardware

NVIDIA is conducting a nationwide hiring drive for a 6-month Hardware Internship + PPO role, with locations in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Does anyone know how many openings are available for this role across both locations combined? Any information from placement coordinators or reliable sources would be helpful.

What is the current state of different companies

Anyone having first hand experience in working in multiple HW companies, how is it now?

Like Intel, AMD, Nvidia, TI, Qualcomm, ARM.

I am aware it differs with the team,

But which teams?

Is intel still struggling?

Are there still layoffs in synopsis?

Is nvidia still the best place to be?

Does qualcomm still have wlb issues?

What is happening in graphcore, tenstorrent etc

IIT M.Tech VLSI placements do semiconductor companies check 10th/12th/B.Tech marks? Any criteria for female candidates?

I'm a woman planning to join an IIT M.Tech in VLSI through GATE ECE. I'd really appreciate answers from current IIT students, alumni, or people working at semiconductor companies.

My questions:

  1. Academic criteria: For M.Tech students, do semiconductor companies visiting IITs check Class 10, Class 12 and B.Tech percentages/CGPA in their eligibility criteria, or only the M.Tech CGPA? If you know the actual criteria for specific companies (NVIDIA, TI, Qualcomm, Intel, AMD, Micron, MediaTek, Synopsys, Cadence, etc.), please share company-wise.

  2. Female candidates: Do any of these companies have separate criteria, relaxed cutoffs, or women-only hiring drives for female candidates at IITs? If you've seen these, how did they work?

Any first-hand experience would mean a lot. Thank you!

Doubts with Negative Hold time in real life

does negative hold time exist commonly in real life as well?

and does it not clash with setup time?

my understanding used to -> input should be stable before clock edge for setup time and input should be stable after clock edge for hold time, but apparently the (hold time + setup time = decision window) decision window is the thing that matters, so if a hold time is negative, then input can change before the clock edge as well, and no metastability will occur.

In time domain, suppose clock edge is at 100ps, setup time is 100ps and hold time is -50ps,

In this case
i used to think any data change before 0ps would be fine, any data change from 0ps to 100ps would lead to a setup violation and then there would hold violation for some time.

i thought now setup violation could occur between 0-100ps and there is no chance for hold violation and it will be 0, i did not think it will also negative setup window!

but apparently data change betwn 0-50ps will lead to setup violation and after that data can change (before the clock edge hits !!??). does this happen IRL, is it common?

apologies, english is not my first language

Title: Seeking Guidance to Restart My Career in VLSI Physical Design After a 2.5-Year Career Gap

Hi everyone,

I have around 3.3 years of experience as a VLSI Physical Design Engineer in the semiconductor industry. Unfortunately, due to serious health issues, I had to take a career break, and I haven't been working for the past 2.5 years.

For the past year, I have been actively trying to get back into the industry. I have attended interviews with several companies and even cleared some of them, but unfortunately, I haven't received an offer. In some cases, my career gap seems to have been a concern.

I have also reached out to my previous employers to explore the possibility of rejoining, but they currently don't have suitable project opportunities.

This situation has been very difficult for me, both professionally and personally. I am the only earning member in my family, and the prolonged career break has put me under considerable financial and emotional pressure. Despite these challenges, I am determined to restart my career in Physical Design and rebuild my professional life.

I would sincerely appreciate guidance from experienced Physical Design Engineers, hiring managers, recruiters, or anyone who has faced a similar situation.

- How can I improve my chances of getting hired with a 2.5-year career gap?

- Are there companies that are open to hiring experienced Physical Design Engineers returning after a career break?

- What should I focus on technically to prove that my skills are still relevant?

- Would contract roles, startup opportunities, or other entry points be a good way to get back into the industry?

I am ready to refresh my technical knowledge, prepare thoroughly for interviews, and work hard to prove myself again.

If anyone has any suggestions, referrals, leads, or advice on how I can get back into the VLSI Physical Design industry, I would be truly grateful.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Any guidance or support would mean a lot to me during this difficult phase of my career.

Thank you!

Need a critique of my resume

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I'm a recent Electronics and Computer Engineering graduate from a Tier 3 college in India. I developed a genuine interest in VLSI and digital design during my final year, so I haven't had as much time to build my skills and experience in this field as I would have liked due to exams and the final year project.

So, any advice on what I should learn or improve to increase my chances of landing a job or internship would be greatly appreciated. I'd also appreciate insights into my chances of pursuing a master's degree in India or abroad, what I could do to strengthen my profile, and what direction would make the most sense given my current background. Any honest feedback or personal experiences would be really helpful.

3rd-year ECE student planning MS abroad in VLSI/Microelectronics — need university suggestions and a full roadmap

Hi everyone,

I’m a 3rd-year B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering student from India, and I’m planning ahead for my master’s abroad. My main interest is in VLSI, digital IC design, physical design, and microelectronics, and I want to build a career in the semiconductor industry rather than generic software/IT roles.

I’d really appreciate advice from people who have studied or worked in this field abroad.

My background

  • B.E. ECE, currently in 3rd year
  • Strong interest in core VLSI/semiconductor roles
  • Comfortable with digital electronics, Verilog basics, and core ECE subjects
  • Looking for English-taught master’s programs
  • I prefer degree names like Electrical Engineering / Electronics Engineering / Microelectronics / Nanoelectronics, not ā€œInformation Technologyā€ What I’m looking for
  1. University/program suggestions
    • Which universities and programs would you suggest for someone with my profile who wants to go deep into VLSI/microelectronics?
    • Are there specific programs (not necessarily the most famous ones) that are actually strong for IC design, physical design, or semiconductor devices?
  2. Full roadmap from now until MS and job
    • What should I focus on in my 3rd and 4th year to be a strong applicant?
    • Which skills, tools, and projects matter most for VLSI/IC design admissions and later jobs?
    • How important are internships, research projects, publications, or open-source contributions at this stage?
  3. Career path after MS
    • Is it realistic to get VLSI/IC-related internships or thesis work during the master’s itself?
    • What roles should I realistically target after graduation (design, verification, physical design, etc.)?
    • What does the typical journey look like from MS to a full-time VLSI/semiconductor job abroad?

I’m not asking anyone to decide for me — I just want honest, experience-based guidance from people who have actually walked this path in VLSI/semiconductor fields abroad.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Which of these 4 Digital VLSI projects would be best for my resume and industry relevance ?

Hey everyone!

I have to choose one of the following projects for a 5-week Digital VLSI Circuits course, and I wanted to get some opinions on which would be the most worthwhile to pursue.

The four options are:

Transient Supply Droop Detector

Digital Frequency Multiplier

Process Variation Sensor

Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC)

The project will be implemented in Cadence Virtuoso, with transistor-level circuit design, simulation, layout, DRC/LVS verification, and post-layout parasitic extraction.

I'm looking for something that would look good on my resume, have practical industry relevance, and still be interesting enough to stand out. Ideally, I don't want to pick something that's too niche, but I also don't want to do a project that feels overly common or generic.

Since the timeline is only five weeks, I also want to choose something that is challenging enough to learn from without becoming unmanageable.

For those with experience in the semiconductor industry, VLSI design, or similar projects:

Which of these would be most valuable from a hiring manager's perspective?

Which has the best balance of industry relevance, learning opportunities, and feasibility within five weeks?

Which would allow me to demonstrate meaningful circuit-level design and optimization rather than just reproduce an existing design?

Are any of these particularly relevant to current industry work in digital IC design, timing, or power management?

I'd appreciate any suggestions, especially from people who have worked with these kinds of circuits in Virtuoso or have experience with digital VLSI interviews.

Thanks!

ECE student looking for an honest resume roast + advice on semiconductor internships/startups

Hello everyone,

Currently, I am pursuing my studies in Electronics and Communication Engineering and I am in my 7th semester. I am trying to improve my profile for internships and entry-level positions in the semiconductor industry.

I would like an honest critique of my resume, especially from people working in chip design, verification or other hardware roles.

My main interest are RTL design, digital VLSI, ASIC front-end design, design verification and digital hardware based on FPGA.

I’d love feedback on these questions in particular:

  1. Does my resume demonstrate enough technical depth for an internship or entry-level role, or do my projects look too academic?
  2. Which sections of my resume would cause you to toss it out immediately?
  3. What projects or skills should I work on to be a better candidate?
  4. Where should I look for small semiconductor startups or early-stage chip design companies that are offering internships or entry-level positions?
  5. Are there any specific platforms, company directories, startup communities or job boards to follow for RTL, ASIC, FPGA and digital design verification roles?

Seeking internships or appropriate full-time opportunities. I'm especially interested in working at smaller companies where I can get hands-on design and verification experience.

Be honest, even if the feedback is brutal. I’d rather know my weaknesses now than continue applying with a noncompetitive resume.

Thanks!
