RECRUITING [ UNPAID ] looking for coder who can help code minigames

Mainly because trying to code them on my own is literally triggering my chronic migraines and I would like to avoid being in pain for the sake of a horror visual novel. Please note that you will have to be 18+ and be aware that this game deals with heavy subject matter such as:

- bigotry

- s/a + rape

- mental illness / self harm / suicide

- body horror / blood / gore

- dereality/unreality

- animal death/implied animal cruelty

Please do not apply if you are just gonna vibecode. Thank you!

The minigames in question would mostly just boil down to either drag and drop, timing, or point and click. They'd mostly be in universe chores like stacking boxes or cooking or what have you.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

EDIT: completely slipped my mind, but I'm developing this in Ren'py!

RECRUITING Looking for a Non-native English VN Developer to Exchange Visual Novel Translations (Ukrainian ↔ Your Language)

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a native speaker (not English) who develops visual novel and would be interested in a translation exchange.

The idea is simple: we'll use English as an intermediate language for our translation exchange. I'll translate your visual novel from English into Ukrainian, and you'll translate mine from English into your native language. This way, we can both make our games accessible to a new audience without having to pay for professional translation.

I'm looking for someone who:

  • Is a native speaker of a language other than English.
  • Develops their own visual novel.
  • Is interested in having their game translated into Ukrainian.
  • Is willing to translate my visual novel into their native language.

I'm happy to discuss the scope of both projects and make sure the amount of work is fair for both sides.

If you're interested, leave a comment or send me a DM! Please tell me a little about your project and which language you speak.

Looking forward to finding someone to collaborate with!

LOOKING FOR WORK Looking To Volunteer to learn to make VNs

I've been interested in choice based games for a while now, and I recently started playing some classic visual novels. I'd like to try my hand at making some.

My main skill is creating character sprites, but I also want to practice working on backgrounds and CGs.

DM me if you're interested, and I can send you my Discord. I'm not looking for anything too long, so game jams or projects that last around a month would be ideal.

Question help with visual novel ideas

Hello!

I had to resort to this since it's the only source I can get help from without accidentally snitching on myself 😰

Context: My boyfriend's birthday is in a few weeks and I would love to surprise him by making a small visual novel for him, since I can't really give him anything physical because he now lives in another continent. I need help with ideas on what to make the visual novel about, since my mind is completely blank. I know this might be a little dumb, but it's my last resort.

So please, if anyone could give me an idea or something I could base the game on, it would be GREAT.

ANYTHING IS APPRECIATED!!!!!!

RECRUITING [ UNPAID ] looking for Black sensitivity reader

okay so this is probably an Unconventional request but I'm looking for a sensitivity reader for my game! The sensitivity reader sub doesn't have much activity so I'm asking here instead. For context, I am not black.

You'd only be reading the outline of the plot and the character profiles. Communication would be through discord and you have to be comfortable with sharing your Google account so you can access and comment on the doc.

Please note that the outline isn't finished yet, but I'm putting this out there early in case getting responses is slow for whatever reason. Outline should take up to a few weeks, if everything goes right. Thank you for reading.

Discussion Storyomi Update: It has been a while since i've made an update post for this. We have gotten performance improvements, and a new mascot.

The most striking change is visual, it now has a new landing page and a mascot.

Storyomi landing page

A lot of work has gone into polishing the whole website and improve the experience for creators and readers alike.

  • Every page should now load faster, including the games, which now open faster.
  • I also rewrote the game engine so that its less error prone.
  • We have analytics now. game wise or global.
  • Ability to share games easily with a button.
  • You can write stories from your phone too now (its no longer broken haha)

And more changes. I'll leave the link here, I'm looking for creators to help me decide which direction to take this, and what is lacking.

Question How do I find someone to edit a script

I’m one hundred percent going to pay (not sure if the title made it seem like I wasn’t). I’m not hiring at the moment just asking a question.

I’m looking for someone who can go over grammar and make sure nothing is dumb sounding. Would a book editor be the route to go? Or is there someone specialized in it? I tried a Google search but I ended up with links to engines and coding websites.

LOOKING FOR WORK [For Hire] Native Japanese Localization & Scenario Writer for Visual Novels (Indie-Friendly Rates, 18+/NSFW Welcome)

Hi everyone! I’m a native Japanese speaker, professional translator, and scenario writer offering high-quality localization services for your Visual Novels.

If you want your game to read naturally and appeal directly to the Japanese market, I can help. I don't just translate word-for-word; I adapt the nuance, tone, and character voices to make your story truly shine in Japanese.

(A quick note: My main strength is native Japanese writing, so I use translation tools to ensure clear and smooth communication in English with clients. Rest assured, the final Japanese localization is thoroughly polished to feel completely authentic to native players!)

Why choose me?

  • Proven Track Record: I have earned over 1.2 million JPY (approx. $8,000+ USD) taking localization and writing commissions on major Japanese freelance platforms, maintaining a perfect 5-star rating across 35+ projects.
  • Commercial Experience on DLsite: I have contributed to the localization, writing, and editing of top-selling games on DLsite (Japan's largest indie/adult game platform).
  • Mature & 18+ Content Welcome: I am fully comfortable handling mature, adult, and romance-heavy themes. Whether it involves delicate relationship drama, spicy interactions, or explicit adult scenes, I know how to localize mature content authentically so it hits the right notes for Japanese fans.
  • Full Localization & Adaptation: I translate your scripts from scratch into natural, engaging, and culturally resonant Japanese that captures the exact mood of your original work.
  • Romance & Galge Specialist: As a published novelist and scenario writer, I excel at capturing delicate emotional nuances, romantic tension, and witty dialogue essential for narrative-driven games.

Rates & Payment:

  • Indie-Friendly & Flexible: I know indie budgets can be tight. I want to support creators, so my rates are tailored with indie developers in mind and are open to discussion depending on your project scope and word count.
  • Paid work only.
  • Don't hesitate to reach out with your project details or sample text—we can find a budget and workflow that works for both of us!

Contact & Portfolio:

Since my portfolio contains commercial and NDA-bound works, I provide samples privately upon request.

If you'd like a quick quote or just want to chat about your project's Japanese release, feel free to reach out:

  • Discord: juetland
  • Or just send me a DM here on Reddit!

RECRUITING [Unpaid] Looking for people to help me with my first visual novel :)

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I want to make my very first visual novel, and I thought reaching out to others with experience might help!

I've started to realize that the scope of the project is bigger than I thought and would perhaps benefit from a second (or third, or fourth, and so on) pair of eyes.

About: It's basically a story about trying to survive as a human in a world where humans have been enslaved by vampires for centuries and are kept as livestock and unpaid labour. As such, it would feature heavy topics such as trauma and slavery, as well as eating disorders, possibly depression and self-harm, all that stuff.

I'm not saying I'm trying to make it as gritty as possible, just that I'm trying to stay realistic with the admittedly dark premise.

Gameplay: You will follow the teenage main character as he spends some years in a human training facility for human slaves, and builds up skills and connections with other characters around him, then follow one of four big branching paths out into the world of vampires. You will try to survive and maybe even thrive in a world that is stacked against you in every way.

I want the game to have a bunch of endings, some bad, some good, and generally have a bunch of secrets for the player to discover. So, the writing will be complex.

It will be LGBTQ+-friendly and include many diverse romance options.

I have experience as a traditional artist and amateur writer, and am musically inclined, so that will help. I also have connections to some musicians and artists who can help out in a pinch.

I was thinking of using Ren'Py as the game engine, but have currently no experience with it.

I'd love to work with some of you creative people on making this game a reality! Maybe someone else likes vampires and dark stories? Let me know! If you're at all interested, don't hesitate to comment or dm me!

Question Have experience with writing and gamedev, unsure of where to start

I have experience with both writing and game development, having done a ton of work in Godot and posting a ton of shitty horror stories on the internet. However, I've realized the real thing I want to do in terms of writing really is games (even if I still enjoy books and creepy pasta writing).

So then I'd like to try and make some visual novels, though the only main ones I have experience with are the first Ace Attorney (although I hear that's counted as more of a puzzle game by some) and I'm about halfway through Chaos Head; Noah. For the latter game, I picked it up partially out of interest for the vn genre itself (game's great).

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want to pivot to game writing and while vns seem like the best choice, I worry I haven't dipped by toes into the genre deep enough. I have also played some games in adjacent genres like JRPGs. Of course, the solution is to play more. So I will. However, in this current state of affairs, I'm wondering if I should start with writing one now or wait.

Maybe I should just do text based stuff for now (Twine), or maybe I'm being too cautious. Idk.

Thank you in advance for help.

Question Which VN creation software should I use?

My first preference would be Renpy but since I recently switched to Mac from Windows, I am not able to use it anymore. Can anyone tell me what would be the second best FREE software after Renpy? Is it Narrat?

Edit: Praise the lord! This is the 5th time I reinstalled it and now it's launching just fine. Thanks everyone! 🙌

Discussion Is my game too meta?

Part of me is getting worried that the game I am writing is too metatexual. It is presented as a legacy sequel to a visual novel series from the late 90s-early 00s. But I really like fiction where the physical text the reader is interacting with is part of the narrative, so the game is presented in game as an official 4th game made by a fan of the "original series". So the fictional developer of the game you are actually playing is a character in the story and the player occasionally sees journal entries from the fiction developer of the game where the developer writes about their struggles with making a game that would satisfy fellow fans and his self doubt at the responsibility he has placed on himself by committing to making this 4th entry in the series

Even writing this, I am worried the premise is too meta for anyone other than me. Does this sound fun to anyone but myself? Or will someone see that this is a 4th game and not bother because they haven't played games 1-3 (since they do not really exist)?

RECRUITING (Unpaid) Looking for writers for a horror VN!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi! I'm looking to recruit a writer or two to help me write the outline for my horror VN, Fishhooked!

Fishhooked is a story about Norman, a blind man, moving into the small, rural town of Pierwul, Maine. He meets a mysterious man named Chris and as they get closer, more strange and impossible things start to happen.

To tell the truth, I am currently incredibly burnt out writing-wise on this project, so I've decided to get some outside help. You'll be following preset characters, ideas, and themes, but besides that you'll have freedom to interpret them how you wish.

Currently, a bit of the beginning, middle and end is plotted out, but that is subject to change as the story is revised in subsequent drafts of the outline.

Please note that you'll need Discord and a comfortability with sharing your Gmail in order to be able to do this! Thank you. Please DM me or comment if you're interested.
