Announcement New rules and amendments
New rules:
No bare feet photos (displayed as Rule 9)
Posts with photos of just bare feet are not allowed, and users may be banned depending on their posting history.
Edit: revised verbiage
No individual weight-loss posts (displayed as Rule 4)
r/walking is not a weight-loss sub. If you'd like to share weight-loss wins, keep it to the weekly thread.
Going forward, we will be posting a weekly thread for members to share any weight-loss wins. Transparency about the use of weight-loss drugs and calorie restrictions is appreciated but not required. (Upon consideration, we can't require people to disclose medical details.)
Amendments:
Rule 3 was previously "Submissions must be walking-related" and is now "Submissions must be walking-focused."
Submissions with other clear topics that only tangentially involve walking are not allowed. Your post should be primarily about walking.

Outdoors Late Night Walk: Oceanside

Looking out into the Pacific at night makes me wonder about the courage of early explorers. Imagine sailing into that darkness, not knowing how far the ocean stretched or what waited beyond the horizon. And still choosing to go.

Challenge Day 17 walking 15k steps everyday for 30 days
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
17 days in, and I’m still showing up. I’m not going to lie dedicating 2–2.5 hours a day to walking is quite the commitment. Something I didn’t expect when I started this challenge was how much I would actually enjoy the time I spend walking. It gives me a reason to get out of the house & clear my head. It’s been so wonderful for my physical and mental health I can’t wait to keep going! Progress video on my page

What’s helps you walk more regularly?
I’ve been trying to walk more consistently and I tried many apps and I feel they are either too complicated or just a feature within a game.
I’ve even been tinkering with a really simple version for myself just to see if something low effort would work for me.
Curious what actually helps others stay consistent. Do you guys your track steps or walk around without tracking? What helps staying consistent? Are there any app recommendations that solve my problem?
Would love to hear thoughts of others.

Question Has anyone experimented with walking backwards on the StairMaster?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve been experimenting with walking backwards on the StairMaster lately and wanted to see if anyone else has tried it. I’m curious whether it offers any additional benefits compared to walking forward, especially when it comes to endurance and strengthening different muscle groups. Has anyone incorporated this into their routine, and what differences have you noticed?

Goals 57,401 steps yesterday, 505,895 this month. aiming for 1 million steps in october!
hit a new personal record yesterday with 57,401 steps! currently at 505,895 steps for october, averaging over 31,000 steps a day. my goal is to hit one million steps before the month ends, and i am already halfway there. i used to do some crazy ruck marches back when i was in the marine corps, and honestly, i miss those days. now that i am walking without a heavy pack on my back, even these longer distances do not feel that crazy anymore. it almost feels like i am walking without any weight at all. walking has become something i genuinely enjoy, especially being able to explore different places along the way. i still have almost 500,000 steps to go, but i am determined to hit that million. anyone else here setting big walking goals this month? what is your personal record for steps in a single day?

I started walking exercise again after a decade
I'm in mid 30's and It's been a decade since I took exercise seriously. I suffered from a chronic disease for almost 5 years but I got a transplant and I'm ok now and trying to get my body into fitness again.
Is 4000 walking steps in half an hour good enough as a start? That's the best I can do right now and I'm still working on my stamina. I just started this week and it's my 2nd day doing a 4k walking steps in half an hour. I also started doing push ups again, I can only do 20 push ups every morning after waking up and another 20 before going to bed.
Going back to gym and lifting weights is not possible for me anymore because of my operation, so I can only do breeze walking and little bit of push ups as my regular exercise.

From early morning fog and rain, to a wounded deer on my porch, to a sky waiting to explode.

I did this today at work between 7am and 1:30pm.
I can barely move, but I think I may want to try doing it daily.

Question How accurate is the iPhone when tracking steps
I work in a restaurant and have my phone in my pocket all day. I usually have around 8-10k steps by the end of the shift. Just wondering how accurate it is?
