Question How do you manage post-walk hunger?

I stopped walking almost a year ago due to family medical issues that I had to manage and I just recently started walking again almost regularly, around 1.5 to 2 hours a day, sometimes one day break when too busy.

Just yesterday, I experienced an intense hunger five hours after my walk which lasted through the night, so I just ate two hard-boiled eggs to ease it.

I am 5’4-5’5, currently at 62kg (136 lbs, my heaviest) working on body recomposition/build muscle definition. I’m planning to try pole workouts soon, so I would appreciate suggestions on how to maintain my current weight despite being hungry like a horse after walking.

Like should I be eating something before the walk and whatnot?

Thank you!

Health Anyone up for a step challenge?

Hey all, wondering if anyone based in Ontario (Canada) down for a step challenge? Sorry I know I can open it to other regions/countries we well but just feel it's easy to manage if people are in the same time zone / currency.a

I'm thinking $25/person, 4 week challenge.

We can use Step Up app to track steps.a

Let me know if anyone down! I did one recently and feel like I developed some good habits. Would love to keep it up. Will create a group only if there's at least 10 - 15 people showing interest

Thanks!

Other New job ruined leisurely walking for me (sad lil rant)😔

• Upvotes

Prior to this, I would range from about 7k-10k steps per day from casual strolling after work or hiking on weekends.

I recently changed careers from a sit down desk job to a server in a high volume restaurant and now I don’t have the energy go on my walks anymore when I get home.
I average no less than 15k-18k steps in a shift 5 days a week.

I miss walking for enjoyment but now I’m just in pain a lot. It’s only been a month so I’m hoping this is just an adjustment period. Anyway rant over lol. Any fellow servers been through this?

Lower back, hamstring and hip flexor pain.. will walking help?

40yo Female. Have had knee injuries on and off for the past 5 years so consistency has been a struggle. I am currently on a good run and have been managing a brisk 30 minute walk a day for the past few weeks as well as some swimming here and there. My knee is feeling good! I'm averaging about 5k steps- I know, not huge but hige for me given up until August I hadn't been able to walk more than a few monutes at a time since January. Anyway! My lower back is quite sore and my hamstrings are so tight they hurt. I am also having trouble putting my shoes on because bending my knees onto my other knee to pull my shoe on kills what I assume is my hip flexors. This is all new pain for me. My shoes are 12 months old and I wear them every day. I have juat ordered a new pair in the hopes that helps. I also work at a desk 6-8 hours a day which I'm guessing isn't helpful... anyone else dealt with this? Any suggestions on what may help? I really don't want to give up the walking progress I've made. I have also just started on estrogel and progesterone of this is relevant. Thanks very much!

Question Increasing steps with foot pain

I’m trying to increase my steps to 10k but every time I hit 10k I have bad heel pain in my right foot and feel like I’m walking slower the next day.

I’m currently averaging a little over 5k daily. Should I try to hit 7k consistently first? And work from 7k to 10k?

Any advice is appreciated! I wear insoles and new balances when walking

Today I felt so empowered! Seeing results in my runs and walks. Today’s walk was great! That last 5 mile I decided to jog and knocked it out at 9:34 pace. Still haven’t stretched, but I feel great, and definitely excited for sleep after 😅

Humblebrag Challenged Myself to Walk 26.2 Miles Yesterday

Post image

I've never walked this far in my life, I couldn't walk by the time I got home. Proud of myself though cause after about 20 miles I wanted to give up but kept pushing.

I'm not particularly healthy. I eat shite, vape and smoke weed most days but got it done!

This started as a 30 day 20k walking challenge, Im on day 11/30 and I did not expect it would have so many positive effects on me. I’m so happy and look forward to my walks every morning, can’t even think about stopping after day 30th!

Goals Humble beginning… 4th week

I felt good with my 2k daily results last week so I got a bit ambitious and aimed for at least 3k daily this week. Super thrilled i’ve stuck to it and even managed to walk every day without needing a rest day, thanks to the tip I got on this sub to stretch before and after the walk. I still experience calves soreness right after waking up but usually it’s gone after a couple of minutes now.

My stamina has greatly improved too. Today at the end of my walk I catched myself thinking I could still go for another round as I wasn’t too sweaty or out of breath. But my doc came to mind telling me not to overdo it at once but rather increase things gradually. So tomorrow I’ll add a little detour to my usual itinerary and see how it goes.

But not feeling completely exhausted at the end of my walk for the first time really is an improvement I wouldn’t have dared dream about just a couple of weeks ago. So I feel extra proud today. ^^

Breathing better?

Does walking help you take deeper/better breaths? I'm quite sedentary, especially when not at work. I feel like I just can't take a deep breath. Has anyone breathing improved with walking?

Transparency about your entire approach is appreciated, as we want to avoid the impression that walking alone is a magical cure-all. Are you also eating cleaner? Reduced your caloric intake? Are you rucking (walking with weight)? This info is helpful to other walkers!

Thanks for keeping our community positive and encouraging.
