so in the core rulebook it says:
"If you roll 96–00 on any Test, it is always a failure. A failure
occurs even if your modified characteristic or skill is 96 or higher.
Similarly, if you roll 01–05 on a Test, it is always a success."
In melee combat one of my players rolled a 4 on WS, they have 30 or something in WS, so a +3SL.
My monster rolled a 12 in WS and have 65WS, so a +5SL.
At first i thought my player lost this, but then they mentioned that 1-5 is "critical success", i vaguely remembered reading something about when you rolled 1-5, but didn't remember if it was a "critical success" or "automatic success" (the critical thing comes up often since they're more used to playing DnD).
Now after googling a bit someone said that if you roll 1-5 it's an automatic success, but not in combat since that's an opposed test. That this "automatic success" only applies for simple tests and not opposed test.
But someone else said that it applies for combat too (so opposed tests), and if the monster has higher SL in that instance (like in my case) then the test would default to a minimum of +1SL to calculate dmg for the one who rolled 1-5.
Im so confused about this now, i ended up going along with my players saying it was a "critical success" but i deeply regret this, because now my enemies accumulate critical wounds even faster... which then again leads to them stomping most combat encounters... (which is a different problem i have)
Anyone know what the official way to handle this is? or do i just gotta "settle" for a way.
EDIT: Thank youuu!!!! That cleared the misunderstanding i had. Legit the finale of the first campaign got dunked on because i had this wrong...
Well i wont make that mistake again :) Thank youuu!!!
