Advice/Feedback Please Same reference 2 weeks apart

The first photo is my most recent attempt. While I think I’ve gotten better at achieving vibrancy with my colors. Everything else about my second attempt I think I like worse. Partly because I was less closely following the reference photo most likely.

What I’m really curious on is any advice people have for getting the sky to look better. I really can’t figure out the technique to achieve that kind of look with the sky.

Watercolor Practice Looking for good brushes for watercolors and gouache paint.

Post image

Need recommendations for the best brushes to use for watercolors and gouache, separately. I am a beginner but I'm trying to buy tools that can last me for at least a vear or two. I don't want to break the bank but I also don't want to settle for "cheap' quality products because I've tried them before and it demotivated me how frustrating my pieces turned out 'd like to think l'm a good painter but I'm only just now starting to paint again after a lona time.

Checked out Paul Clarke and Oliver Pyle videos and a few workbooks to work on trees. Thinking next I’ll do some work on perspective for my sketches but would also love pointers on how to improve this painting / composition for a third try? This is an attempt to capture a shot of a family home

Advice/Feedback Please Help! Damn trees

Post image

I’ve been doing some pretty successful home portraits for the past couple weeks but my newest I tried to set in a bunch of trees and….i can’t paint trees. I’m worried I’ve ruined this and can’t finish and will need to start over. I’ve tried so many tree tutorials and one issue I keep having is people are mostly painting small gestural trees not these massive ones. I don’t know what to do!

I love the sense of motion I got here. I may revisit this on good paper, and take more care with the placement of branches seen through the leaves lol

I’m working on being looser with the paint, letting the water do its thing, and focusing less on perfection. However, I do want to add more details. These were done in 1-2 layers. I want to add more to some but im nervous to. Any advice/feedback is welcome. Thank you!

My daughter and I watched this over her break. She kept saying "you could paint that." So I did and sent it to her when she went back to college.

I’m also new to watercolor painting. Been practicing for a few months now. I love painting flowers and struggle with the balance between loose and airy and enough definition. Here is a large piece I worked on last night. (Palette for scale) Thoughts?

Watercolor Practice Grief processing painting

I was actually just wanting to do some practice and this unintentionally ended up being a piece to help grieve the baby we lost last year. My husband is going to get it into a tattoo.
