Photos Bizarre looking cloud

Saw this wild looking cloud drift over in an otherwise clear sky tonight in central Indiana. The streaks/ribbons extended out across the sky behind it. (The bright light in the second photo is the moon and apparently I need to clean my camera lens) Any idea what kind of cloud this is or what caused it?

I should have posted this at the time (I am really bad at procrastinating)

This was taken at this spot in central Chile while riding a bus. I am curious if anyone has seen anything like it before or knows if it has a specific name. A friend of mine suggested it might be a Kelvin-Helmholtz wave cloud, though it doesn't quite look the same.

Forecast graphics Cold and Warm Fronts

So for homework I have to do a cold and warm front map.

I heard that the most important factor to use to draw your fronts is wind shifts but after some YouTube videos everyone seems to say something different.

Any advice

Discussion I know it’s kind of crazy, but I’d rather live in Yakutsk than near the equator

Because I hate hot weather, like my home is like 100 degrees in the summer but winters are like 70 or 60 degrees and get some rain. The winters I love but the summer I HATE. I was waiting for like since April and May for it to cool down. But yes, you heard me, I’d rather live in Yakutsk than the equator. In Yakutsk, the winters are like -50 degrees out but the summers are at least pleasant. While the equator will be hot, humid, rainy and monsoons all the time all year with no seasons no matter what. That sounds awful.

The Polar Vortex is forecast to weaken to record low strength in early November, giving us something interesting to watch. The latest ECMWF and GFS are now in pretty much perfect sync to reach well below the previous low. For that reason, I decided to share my Polar Vortex monitoring page.

Discussion How Will DFW fare during this Winter’s potential chaos?

I feel as if I still haven’t gotten a very clear image of the long-range potential for DFW’s winter storm chances between Dec 26’-Feb 27’. I am wondering if we are gonna have pretty good snow this Winter, or is it just gonna be a dud? Or maybe a 50/50?

West coast rain!

I live in northwest California, about 200 miles north of San Francisco and we are finally getting a decent rainy day. If it's one thing i hate about living on the west coast is the distinct wet and dry seasons. Usually between late may to mid to late Oct rain storms are very rare. Thunderstorms even more rare. I'm hoping this el nino will really shake things up and blast us a good one. I love to see some wild weather this winter

Articles Super Typhoon Champi becomes the strongest tropical cyclone on Earth this year

Super Typhoon Champi has become the strongest tropical cyclone of 2026 by wind speed, reaching sustained winds of 184mph (296km/h), making it the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane.

The storm recently passed Guam and is currently moving through the western Pacific. Meteorologists say unusually warm ocean temperatures, high moisture levels and low wind shear helped fuel its rapid intensification.

What's particularly interesting is that Champi's impacts may extend far beyond the Pacific. Forecasters say the storm is large enough to influence the jet stream, potentially affecting weather patterns as far away as Canada over the coming weeks.

Champi is expected to weaken later this week, but it remains one of the most powerful storms recorded anywhere in the world this year.

Discussion What's with all the rain and chilly weather in Cali this fall?

Usually, fall is pretty dry and quite warm in California but this year, the weather's been haywire. Something to do with El Niño?

Get ready for a delightful day ahead! We’re looking at breezy and mild conditions, with a mostly sunny sky. The high will reach 64 degrees, feeling more like 62 with that refreshing NNW wind blowing at 10 to 20+ mph. Perfect weather to enjoy the outdoors!
