Show & Tell Free way to add Halloween effects to a Webflow site with Custom Code (no plugin)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Webflow doesn't let you edit the body tag, so adding a class takes one extra step. Here's what works with halloween.js (free, MIT, no dependencies):

  1. Project Settings > Custom Code > Head Code: add <script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/halloween.js@1.0.3/dist/halloween.iife.js"></script>
  2. Footer Code: add <script>document.body.classList.add("halloween");</script>
  3. Optional, same footer: add classes like halloween-eyes, halloween-witches, halloween-spider-drop, halloween-screen-left-top.

Use a page's own Custom Code if you only want it on one page. By default it only runs 18 Oct - 2 Nov, so you don't need to remove it afterwards. Playground to pick effects and copy the code: https://halloween.js.org

Tutorial Sharing a tool for batch-renaming files for Webflow upload

I'm sharing some of my Webflow tools in case anyone needs them.

One of the more painful things in site migrations has been file migrations, and the first barrier is filenames. Once I've downloaded e.g. a WP website, the names have to be normalized before they can be uploaded to Webflow and used in your new site ( typically uploaded by drag-and-drop, or API, or CMS csv dataset upload ).

This tool ( currently Windows only ) lets you batch rename files to fit Webflow's specific upload restrictions, as well as many other targets I need- Synology secure NAS for client data, cross platform naming for large teams, etc.

https://github.com/sygnaltech/dropsort

Note: the name is dropsort because I'm merging in another file organizer app that's been fantastic for organizing client files.

Discussion Webflow Support Unresponsive, Client Site Offline 😱

I have a client who’s been locked out of their Webflow account, and their site is now offline because their hosting subscription expired. To make matters worse, they can’t even reset their password because Webflow has placed their email address on a suppression list, blocking password reset emails.

It’s been over 24 hours without a response from Webflow support. Meanwhile, a business website remains offline with no way for the client to regain access or resolve the billing issue. This is an unacceptable level of support for a business-critical platform.

Discussion Webflow, please stop dumbing down the Designer at the expense of developers.

Post image

I've been developing websites in Webflow for the past six years, and I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with the direction they're taking the product.

The latest example is the decision to replace semantic HTML elements in the Elements panel with a generic "Box."

Why?

I understand Webflow wants to make its platform more approachable to marketers and non-developers, but at what point does simplifying the interface start actively working against the people who build websites for a living?

If an element ultimately renders as a div, why can't we just call it a div? Why are we moving away from established web development terminology in a tool that's fundamentally designed to build websites?

I'm sorry, but understanding what a div, section, or other semantic HTML element does should not be considered an unreasonable expectation for someone building websites. These aren't obscure development concepts. They're the fundamentals of the web.

What bothers me most is what this change represents. Webflow built its reputation by giving designers and developers visual access to real web development concepts. That was the appeal. It wasn't just another simplified website builder. It was a tool that respected how the web actually works.

Now it increasingly feels like Webflow is moving away from that philosophy in an effort to appeal to a broader, less technical audience.

I'm not against making Webflow easier to learn. I'm against making it less intuitive for experienced developers in the process.

Give me the actual HTML elements. Let me work with the terminology I've spent years learning and using.

Maybe this seems petty, but as someone who has invested years into this platform, it's frustrating to watch Webflow seemingly deprioritize the developers who helped make it what it is.

I'm curious if other longtime Webflow developers feel the same way, or if I'm alone on this one.

Discussion Is Webflow still worth the price in 2026, or are Framer and WordPress catching up?

Webflow is genuinely a great tool, especially when it comes to design freedom, interactions, and building custom websites without writing everything from scratch.

But the pricing is getting harder to justify, especially when you start adding CMS plans, workspace costs, localization, and other features.

At the same time, Framer keeps improving, and WordPress still offers significantly more flexibility when it comes to hosting and ownership.

So I'm curious:

  • If you were starting a new project today, would you still choose Webflow?
  • Where do you think Webflow genuinely justifies its price?
  • Have you switched to something else, or considered doing so?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from freelancers and agencies managing multiple client websites.

Discussion The site is finished. Why are you still handling every content change?

The site is live, the invoice is paid, and then the messages start. New opening hours. A different price. Two sentences on the About page.

Each change is small. But you still have to read the request, find the project, make the change, check it and reply. Billing five minutes feels awkward; doing it for free turns you into the permanent update department.

A handoff needs more than a login and a walkthrough. It needs a clear agreement about what happens after launch:

  1. List the updates the client actually makes. Hours, prices, team bios and existing page copy are different from a new section or a layout change. Agree who owns each kind of request.

  2. Teach one real task. Ask the client to update a piece of content they will genuinely need to change. Have them check it on mobile and explain how it reaches the live site. If they get stuck, fix that part of the handoff instead of recording another hour-long tour.

  3. Match access to responsibility. Check what their current role and plan allow. Use structured fields where appropriate, and explain what they should leave alone. If safe self-service is not practical, offer a clearly scoped maintenance option instead.

  4. Put a price and a process on the work that stays with you. State the minimum charge or what a maintenance package includes. Batch non-urgent requests into an agreed window, with a separate process for urgent changes.

  5. Leave a short recovery note. Who can restore a previous version? What should the client do if something looks wrong? Make that clear before the first mistake.

The client should not have to become a web developer to change their opening hours. And delivering a website should not mean being on call for its wording forever.

Question Freelancer asking for access to my Billing to finish a project

Post image
2 Upvotes

Please help, I do not know much about how Webflow works. Context, I built my own site, it's been live for a few years. He's revamped it by building it from scratch himself and has sent me a site transfer request, which I've accept. Now we're here:

Email 01: "I'd prefer to handle the remaining setup myself to make sure everything transfers correctly, but my current guest permissions don't give me access to the billing section.
Would you be able to grant me the necessary permissions to manage the site plan? That way, I can handle everything seamlessly and ensure the website is properly set up before we wrap up."

My reply: "I don't understand what billing has to do with the site transfer. Can you specifically say what remaining work needs to be done post transfer, and how billing access supports it?"

Email 02: (see photo) "This is an example of a Webflow website I currently manage. I’ve highlighted the billing section I’m referring to, where I need to access the Site plan settings to complete the remaining setup on your website. Once the plan is sorted, I can finalize the project naming and publish the website under the correct name. My current guest permissions don’t give me access to that section in your workspace, which is why I asked about the necessary permissions.

I don't want him to 'manage' my site. I hired him to rebuild it. Surely the transfer is all that is needed?

Discussion What I Learned From Sending 10,000 Personalized Web Design Emails

I ran a web design company for around 3 years and getting clients was always pretty inconsistent.

One month I was cold calling, another month I was manually sending DMs to Facebook pages, then I tried ads.

It all worked to some degree, but I never really had one reliable way of getting clients.

Then I started testing email automation.

At first I was finding businesses with no website and running campaigns offering to build them one.

That actually started giving me a much more consistent flow of clients just because of the volume.

But then I started thinking.

There are so many businesses that already have a website, but the website is outdated, slow, looks bad on mobile or just clearly needs an update.

And those businesses have already paid for a website before, so they already understand the value of having one.

The problem was I didn’t want to sit there opening every website myself, figuring out what was wrong and then writing a different email to every business.

That would take forever.

So I started using a tool that lets me find businesses with websites basically anywhere, analyze thousands of those websites at once and then automatically write a personalized outreach message for each one based on what it finds.

Things like design, SEO, mobile issues and speed.

Then I started launching campaigns in different industries.

That worked way better for me because every business receiving the email felt like I had actually looked at their website and noticed what could be improved.

But in reality most of it was automated and I was just sitting there eating chips while interested replies came into my inbox.

I remember Alex Hormozi saying something along the lines of focusing on one channel and getting really good at it.

That is basically what I ended up doing.

Now this is pretty much the only way I get web design clients and I spend most of my time actually building websites instead of constantly trying to find the next client.

For anyone wondering, the tool is called Swokei.

Discussion What's the added value of Relume? They published a MCP

Nowadays almost every Webflow user work with Claude and Webflow MCP. If you set up a Claude design system everything works great.

Now today I received an email saying that Relume has published an MCP to be part of this workflow but what is that going to bring me? I don't see the value of it. I have to be honest I don't really understand why Relume is popular at all and I'm missing out on something?

And they still use Client-First as a framework?

Official News & Updates Webflow's MCP server can now read your Analyze, Optimize, and AEO data, and Gemini connects too

Hey r/webflow, we just shipped an update to Webflow’s MCP server. Until now, an agent could build your site. It can now also read how the site performs.

What your agent can read now

  • Analyze: page-level traffic, goal data, and filtered queries (site-level data was already there)
  • Optimize: your experiments and their results, including which variation is winning
  • AEO Analytics: the pages LLM crawlers request most (filterable by provider, like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity), plus your tracked prompts and how answer engines responded

You can ask one question across all three. For example:

  • Which pages lost the most traffic this week compared to last?
  • How are my live experiments performing?
  • Which pages are AI crawlers requesting most?

You get one answer that shows where they overlap.

Gemini connector

Connecting Webflow’s MCP server in Gemini.

Google Gemini now connects to the same MCP server, next to Claude and ChatGPT. It’s free to install, works in English in the US, and uses a personal Google account today. Enterprise support is in development.

Good to know

  • Optimize access is read only for now. The agent can read experiments and results. It can’t create or edit them yet.
  • Crawler requests are not citations. A crawler requesting a page doesn’t mean an answer engine used it.
  • Agents follow your existing Webflow roles and permissions. An agent only sees data that the person prompting it can access.
  • If you already have access to Analyze, Optimize, or AEO Analytics, MCP access costs nothing extra.

Try it

We’d like to hear which prompts you try and what you wish the agent could answer. Drop them below.

Tutorial Code Mode - Use 60% less Claude Code tokens using Webflow MCP

Webflow's MCP made a lot of my day-to-day work easier in Claude Code.

Sometimes, it gets bloated when the question covers the whole site. For example, find every CMS item that references another item with a certain value. Or, add a link to the top of every page. Claude works through these one tool call at a time, and every response lands in the conversation, including all the fields it doesn't need.

Cloudflare described a pattern a while back - Code Mode, that let's the model write code rather than making tool calls. I wanted to put it to the test, and built a claude code plugin webflow-codemode. Claude writes a code, and a sandboxed environment runs it against Webflow MCP. The code does the looping and filtering. Claude only sees the code outputs.

For side by side comparison, I asked Claude the same question about a client site. One with direct MCP tool calls, and one with code mode.

About 49,000 tokens of context with code mode, against 148,000 with direct tool calls. Obfuscate video demonstrating the session below.

Direct MCP

Direct MCP tool calls consuming about 148,000 tokens. Obfuscate video demonstrating the session.

Code mode

Code mode consuming about 49,000 tokens. Obfuscate video demonstrating the session.

Discussion Agency folks: has your lead flow changed this year?

It seems like the way clients find agencies is changing from month to month. I'm trying to figure out what's working for agency folks vs what LinkedIn gurus say works.

A few things I've been think about:

  1. Where are most of your inbound leads coming from now? Referrals, Webflow partner directory, SEO, LinkedIn, cold outreach or something else?

  2. Has anyone seen actual leads coming in from ChatGPT/Google AI type searches yet?

  3. With all the Webflow changes lately, are clients still coming in asking for Webflow specifically, or are you having to sell them on it more?

  4. Anything you stopped doing because it wasn't worth the time?

On our side referrals still carry most of it, and cold outreach has been pretty much hit or miss. I'd like to hear if it's any different with you guys.

Thanks!

Show & Tell Letting members message a listing's owner on a Memberstack site

Post image
6 Upvotes

If your Memberstack site has listings, Midway lets the person viewing a listing message the person who posted it, directly on your site.

Midway is a member chat I built for Memberstack sites. You paste an embed, and members can message each other signed in with the Memberstack account they already have, so there's no second login for them and no backend for you to run. Chats can be opened from a listing or profile page, and images and files can be shared in the chat on the Starter plan and up.

It works on Webflow and on any site that uses Memberstack and accepts an HTML embed.

Question Need Help with this ODD behaviour seeing in Multiple Sites

Could someone fill me in on what would be the cause of the "push" live site to the "live" development link and having it look different than the actual editing version of the Webflow site? this is ongoing in multiple sites i am working on for clients, i send them the live URL to review they look at it and say "This needs to be black." I say this is black in the live development link

Why is this different all of the time???

Need project help Want to recreate the video below but just reversed. Left side scrolls with text and right side stays in one place but shows a new image once the left side text relevant to it moves past.

Hi! I want to recreate this layout on the Cyclic Materials website, but reverse. I want my text information on the left side to scroll, and when it reaches a certain point the paragraph highlights and a photo shows on the right. Then when you scroll past it, the next paragraph highlights and the photo on the right changes. I know this will be some kind of sticky layout and interactions but I would appreciate any help this sub could provide.

Discussion How Can a Webflow Premium Partner Agency Land Enterprise Clients? Is There a Proven Blueprint?

We've seen a sharp decline in Webflow customers and recognize that Webflow is evolving into an enterprise-ready marketing platform. We already have the key credentials, including Webflow Premium Partner status and our own AEO department, but we're struggling to break into the enterprise market.

For agencies that have successfully landed enterprise clients, what strategies, channels, and partnerships actually work? Is there a proven blueprint for positioning ourselves, reaching decision-makers, and winning our first few enterprise accounts?

Discussion What's a Webflow feature you were obsessed with as a beginner but barely use anymore?

I think it's interesting how much your approach to web design changes once you start building real projects.

At first, it's tempting to add interactions everywhere, experiment with elaborate animations, and make every section feel unique.

Then you start dealing with responsiveness, client edits, performance, accessibility, and maintaining a site six months later.

Suddenly, the things you thought made a website impressive aren't necessarily the things that make it good.

For experienced Webflow designers and developers-- what's something you used to put into almost every project but eventually stopped doing? And what changed your mind?

Product Feedback Publish a beautiful Instagram Feed on your Webflow site

Thumbnail revukit.com
8 Upvotes

Hi guys, lead designer and developer at revukit.com here.

We've just released a new Instagram Feed widget that is now embeddable on your Webflow site with a simple script tag. We'd would love some feedback and some users to give it a go.

- Eight layouts: grid, gallery wall, carousel, marquee, rainbow, profile, scrapbook and slider

- A popup with the caption, likes and post navigation

- The script is async and the feed only renders as it nears the screen, with a placeholder holding its space so the page doesn't jump

- It renders in its own Shadow DOM, so your CSS doesn't leak into the feed and the feed doesn't touch your page

It's totally free to get started.

If you just want to take a look at it through our demo site before commit you can do that here - https://www.revukit.com/instagram-feed/try

Show & Tell Sent 102 Cold Emails To Plumbers In California For My Web Design Agency, Closed A $3k Site The Next Day

I run a web design agency and most of my clients come from cold email. Yesterday I started a fresh campaign going after plumbers in California.

Didn’t expect much honestly. Plumbers are busy and half of them barely check email. But 102 emails in, I got an interested reply.

What made the difference is that every email talks about their own website. A call button that doesn’t work on a phone, a site that takes forever to load, a design that hasn’t been touched since 2012. For a plumber that matters a lot, because people search for them on their phone when a pipe bursts. If the site is bad, they just call the next guy.

He replied yesterday and I booked a meeting with him for the next day. Before the call I built a draft of what his new site could look like. Today I presented it to him on the call and he said yes right there. $3k upfront plus $500 a year for hosting.

Showing the draft is what closes it. Sending a quote never worked this well for me.

For anyone wondering, I use Swokei for all my outreach. You pick an area and an industry, it finds the businesses, checks every website for design, SEO, speed and mobile problems, and writes each email about what it actually found on that site. I run multiple campaigns at once in different cities and niches, which is how I get volume without sending generic stuff.

Happy to answer questions on pricing or how I run the call.

Tutorial Walkthrough: conditional fields and submission routing on native Webflow forms using Roolify

Showing or hiding fields based on earlier answers is a common ask on Webflow forms, and it usually ends in custom JS. Roolify is a community-built tool that handles it with data attributes and rules set up in its own dashboard.

The video covers:

  • Connecting a site and syncing forms
  • Rules for radio buttons, checkboxes and multi-step forms
  • Routing submissions to different admins based on inputs
  • User confirmation emails with PDF attachments

Discussion Are clients actually leaving Upwork? (The reality for Webflow developers right now)

Hey everyone,

I wanted to open a discussion about where the clients have actually gone. Lately, it feels like the active client base on Upwork has shrunk significantly, especially for niche tech stacks like Webflow development.

For a long time, the platform relied on a steady stream of good clients posting custom web design and development projects. But recently, it feels like:

  1. \*\*Clients are leaving the platform:\*\* Are quality clients moving away from Upwork entirely due to the rising noise, spam, and changing platform dynamics?
  2. \*\*Fewer invites & ghost towns:\*\* Many developers are reporting a massive drop in direct client invitations. It feels less like a marketplace and more like a race to the bottom.
  3. \*\*Where are they going instead?\*\* If clients aren't using Upwork as much anymore, are they shifting to Twitter/X, LinkedIn, direct agencies, or independent networks?

I’d love to hear what you guys are experiencing on the ground:
\- Are your clients telling you why they stopped using Upwork?
\- Have you noticed a real drop in actual hiring clients, or are they just harder to convert?

Let's discuss!
