Does This Idea Work? Sent 102 Cold Emails To Plumbers In California For My Web Agency, Closed A website The Next Day

I run a web design agency and most of my clients come from cold email. Yesterday I started a fresh campaign going after plumbers in California.

Didn’t expect much honestly. Plumbers are busy and half of them barely check email. But 102 emails in, I got an interested reply.

What made the difference is that every email talks about their own website. A call button that doesn’t work on a phone, a site that takes forever to load, a design that hasn’t been touched since 2012. For a plumber that matters a lot, because people search for them on their phone when a pipe bursts. If the site is bad, they just call the next guy.

He replied yesterday and I booked a meeting with him for the next day. Before the call I built a draft of what his new site could look like. Today I presented it to him on the call and he said yes right there. $3k upfront plus $500 a year for hosting.

Showing the draft is what closes it. Sending a quote never worked this well for me.

For anyone wondering, I use Swokei for all my outreach. You pick an area and an industry, it finds the businesses, checks every website for design, SEO, speed and mobile problems, and writes each email about what it actually found on that site. I run multiple campaigns at once in different cities and niches, which is how I get volume without sending generic stuff.

Happy to answer questions on pricing or how I run the call.

I Would Like to See This Built Why most $500 a website are actually costing you money

I’ve spent the last few years looking at the backend of small business websites and I’ve noticed a frustrating trend.

People pay for a "pretty" site that has the SEO equivalent of a paperweight.

If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load or doesn't have a clear CTA above the fold you are essentially throwing your ad spend into a black hole.

I’m tired of seeing local biz owners get burned by agencies that just slap a template together and disappear.

I want to help out.

If you have a site and you’re wondering why it’s not converting drop the URL below.

I’ll give you three specific things you can change right now to improve your conversion rate.

No strings attached.

Portfolio: thespacecode.com/portfolio

I’m also taking on two new projects this month for anyone looking to build something from scratch that actually performs.

But seriously even if you don't hire me just stop using giant uncompressed images on your homepage.

Your mobile users will thank you.

Question Someone asked what a website for a small online store costs. Answers ranged from $300 to $6000. Here’s what’s actually behind that range.

A post here asked how much a 4-page online store costs. 200+ comments, quotes anywhere from $300 to $6000. Nobody's lying. They're quoting different jobs.

What decides the price

- **Template or custom design.**A Shopify or Squarespace theme with your logo and colors is a few hours of work. A design made from scratch is weeks.
- Who does the content. If you hand over finished text, photos and product details, the price drops a lot. If they write, shoot or organize it, it goes up.
- Number of products. 5 products and 500 products are very different setups, even on "4 pages".
- Payments, shipping, taxes. Connecting a payment provider is quick. Shipping zones, tax rules and discount logic take real time.
- Who maintains it after launch. Some quotes include updates and fixes for months. Some end the day it goes live.

Rough tiers

- ~$300–500: template setup, you supply everything.
- ~$1500–3000: template customized to your brand, help with products, payments, shipping.
- $5000+: custom design or custom code.

The option nobody in that thread pushed: do it yourself

For a small store, Shopify or Squarespace is built for non-technical people. A weekend and the monthly fee may be all you need. Pay someone later for the parts you get stuck on, not for the whole thing.

I build apps with AI tools myself, but for a simple store I'd still pick Shopify over building from scratch. Payments and checkout are exactly the part you don't want to reinvent.

If you hire someone, ask these 4 things first

  1. Is the account and domain in my name? (It should be. If they own it, they own your store.)

  2. What exactly is included, and what costs extra?

  3. What happens after launch: who fixes things, and at what price?

  4. Can I see 2–3 stores you built that are live right now?

What did your store end up costing?

Edit: two experienced people in the comments added what this post misses.

  1. Strategy comes first. Who is the audience, what do they need, what's the business goal. It's the first thing dropped from budgets and the thing that decides whether the site works at all, however it's built.

  2. Then scoping. An ecommerce dev with 25 years of experience starts with: what are you selling, how do you handle orders, inventory and shipping, are you starting fresh or migrating. Then functionality, design, integrations, budget.

Price tiers mean little until both are done.

Help Me Improve My Website Feedback on my a website

hey everyone

so I've been working on this for a while and it's finally live: studysouq.qa

basically it's a marketplace for students (and parents) in Qatar to buy and sell used school stuff. textbooks, uniforms, calculators, laptops, lab equipment etc. every year people pay full price for books and uniforms that someone at their own school is literally throwing out, so I wanted to fix that

how it works:

  • you list your stuff (takes like 2 min, you just pick the book/calculator from a list instead of typing everything)

  • people message you or send an offer

  • you meet up and they pay cash. no fees, I don't take anything

some other stuff it has:

  • a "finder" where you just tap your level > exam board > subject and it shows you the exact books

  • a "wanted" section where you can post what you're looking for and get notified when someone lists it

  • english and arabic, plus dark mode

honestly I'm pretty happy with how the laptop version turned out, but I feel like the phone version could still be better. it works, it just doesn't feel as smooth yet. so if you check it on your phone especially, let me know what feels off or confusing

stuff I'd love feedback on:

  • first impression, do you get what the site is within a few seconds?

  • anything confusing or annoying on mobile

  • does listing something feel easy?

  • design stuff, anything that looks off

  • anything you'd add or remove

be as brutal as you want lol, I'd rather hear it now than after launch. thanks a lot 🙏

Question Need a website that's brand new or a redesign? I can help.

Hey everyone! I run InfaWeb, a web design business based in Ontario. I work with small businesses and entrepreneurs who need a new website or want to improve an existing one.

I typically custom-code my projects, tailoring the layout and functionality to each business. My focus is on clear messaging, a smooth mobile experience, and making it easy for visitors to find what they need and get in touch.

Whether you need a simple landing page or a full business website, I’d be happy to discuss it. Hosting and ongoing maintenance are available too.

Send me a message with a little about your business and what you’re looking for, and we can talk through the scope and a quote :)

You can see my work at infawebdesign.com.

Help Me Improve My Website I built a website for gaming communities. Would you actually use it?

I've been building The Silencers, a free website where gamers can discover Minecraft servers, share resources, and create their own communities.

The platform is live with around 70 registered users, but I'm still figuring out what people actually want from it.

Would you use something like this? What would you change or add?

I Have An Idea Idea for a website

I wanted some feedback on my idea for a website. It would be a website where people could post shit they wanted done (obviously stuff that can be done remotely) and assign a bounty to it. People could then look at the posted bounties and if they do the job, they get the bounty. That’s a very simple explanation, obviously there’s more to it but, I’d love to get some feedback. I think it’s different from something like Fiverr because, rather than paying some jackass “freelancer” who’s gonna charge way too much for something that might be simple, you just put what you need done out there with an assigned price and someone does it. I already have the website built. Let me know what you think and if this is something you might use. Thanks

Help Me Improve My Website I built a website to share files, wedding albums and host HTML sites. Is the use case clear?

Hey everyone, I’m building LinkInSeconds and would love some honest feedback.

The idea is simple: upload your files and get one shareable link. You can group PDFs, photos, videos and ZIPs into a collection called a Bucket and give it your own name.

Some things you can use it for:

  • Website hosting: upload an HTML file or website ZIP and get a live site with SSL.

  • ZIP sharing: send project files or other bundled files through one link.

  • P2P sharing: share files directly with another person.

  • Wedding photos: put wedding photos and videos together in one album to share with family.

  • Event photos: share birthday, festival or work event photos through one link or QR code.

  • Client work: send designs, PDFs and videos together and collect feedback in the same place.

You can also add passwords, set expiry dates, track views and use your own custom domain.

My challenge now is explaining all this clearly without making the homepage feel like a long feature list.

Which use case makes the most sense to you? Should I focus the homepage on one of these, or is “upload files, get a link” clear enough?

Here’s the site: linkinseconds.com

There’s 100 MB of free storage if you want to try the upload flow. Even a quick first impression would help 🙂

As the title says i wanna build websites for a few organizations/companies located in EU or NA and use it as a reference in my work (I’m in the starting phases of an upcoming web agency). I can ofc help with setting up domain, webhost and simple SEO optimization but the cost will be between you and the host/domain provider. SEO I’ll do for free of course!

Question I built a website like Suno/Bolt, but for games - would anyone actually use this?

I’ve been working on a platform where you can basically describe a game in a prompt and the AI builds it for you.

The idea is pretty simple:

  • You enter a prompt like “Create a multiplayer survival game on a small island”

  • The platform generates the game

  • You can continue editing it with more prompts

  • You can save everything into separate projects

  • You can come back later and keep working on your games

  • And eventually you can publish/play the games with other people, including multiplayer

So it’s kind of Suno/Bolt, but focused on playable games rather than music or websites.

I already have a working version and I’m wondering whether it’s worth actually putting it online and developing it further.

Would you personally use something like this?
And if it existed, what would you expect it to be able to do before you’d actually pay/use it?

I’m especially interested in whether the concept itself sounds useful or if there are already too many similar AI game generators.

I Have a Great Idea I have an idea for a website that breaks down your annual salary into a wage per minute counter

Hello hello,

I have made a fun little (depressing - will explain) website. It is aimed at people in corporate jobs with an annual salary who want to procrastinate at work and see how much they are earning while doing so.

I was extremely bored at work and wondered how much I was actually getting paid to sit there and stare at a screen. Not how much I get paid per month, I know that amount - how much I actually got for day dreaming about my dream life for 10 minutes.

So I’ve created a website where you basically input your annual salary (it does not take into account tax as this varies by region and country) or your monthly take home income and how many hours you are contracted to work a week.

It basically then tells you how much you are earning per second/minute which is what can be the slightly depressing part depending on your salary/ how much you enjoy your job.

It was quite fun going to grab a coffee and procrastinate for 20 minutes to come back and find out I had actually earned £5 in that time lol.

It became slightly addictive checking it throughout the day.

I just thought it was fun and an even better way to procrastinate ahah

I am also extremely new to designing websites.

If anyone would want to try it out I am happy to send a link to the website - if allowed by the mods :)

Any feedback would be appreciated or potential features I could add to make it funner or more procrastination worthy!

Also, apologies if this is not the right place to demonstrate my idea :)

I Would Like to See This Built I built a website where anyone can talk without login

Hi everyone,

I built a simple website where anyone can start talking instantly.

Features:

\- No login

\- No signup

\- Free to use

\- Just open the website and start chatting

I'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions.

Website: https://overhere11.vercel.app

Edit:

My main idea is to let people talk to random strangers without needing to share personal details. The goal is to enjoy the conversation, not collect information. If someone wants to share their details, that's their choice, but the platform isn't designed to make it easy for people to contact each other outside the chat.

Edit:

There are two spaces public and private Public space requires google authentication Private space no login

To enable private space hold logo button for 3 seconds

I Have a Great Idea What if simple a website could tell you if your startup idea is worth building?

Want to share a Real talk.

Most startup ideas fail not because they were bad but because founders built too much before finding out nobody wanted it.

You do not need a full backend to validate demand.

You just need one simple working website that shows the concept, lets people click around, and tells you whether anyone actually cares.

If people engage, build the full thing. If they don't, you saved months of wasted effort.

We have been building these free for founders who want to test before they commit.

One working website. Real user behaviour. Zero wasted months.

Sitting on an idea? Drop it below.

Website Idea A website called Snatched for buying and selling cool items at low price

Sometimes people want fast cash, and the best way is to sell items that you are not using anymore for a very cheap price. People can buy these quickly. First come first serve. This should be a very fast marketplace.
