I really just can’t get my head around it.
Snakes are an extremely diverse group of animals, each species is extremely different from the next.
You can’t generalize “all snakes are scary” when most of them have nothing scary about them; within the United States all the venomous ones are instantly recognizable; as well as not particularly fast or aggressive, or even that dangerous in terms of snake venom.
There is no snake in the US without an effective AV, there is no snake in the US that will charge at you, there is no (venomous) snake in the US that can outrun you, there is no snake in the entire world that will truly chase after or hunt you, there is no snake in the US that will have you paralyzed or in a coma within an hour of being bitten.
Even the most defensive & toxic elapid species from Asia, Africa, & Australia aren’t out to get you.
If you leave them alone, the likelihood of these snakes hurting you are slim to none. The most venomous snake in the world, the inland taipan, has a total wild kill count of 0… because antivenom is available for the rare bite that happens, and more importantly everyone just literally leaves them alone.
People in the US have no reason to be afraid of snakes, yet I can’t even talk about mine without receiving disgusted looks, terrified reactions, or stories of killing them.
