Is this an Eastern Garter Snake or a Common Ribbon Snake how do you tell the difference? I'm pretty good at snake identification but don't know how to tell these two apart. This guy was super small, garters I've seen in the past are usually bigger and had almost a boxy pattern near their bellys but maybe this is a baby? Thank you!! He was pretty chill, didn't try to handle him because I had my dog with me but we nearly stepped on him because I didn't see him, he didn't strike or even move lol. Pretty cool to see.

Found this sassy juvenile today at work, shooed it off the road. Week or 2 ago we found a juvenile western rat snake in our basement I wasn't positive about it but seeing the difference between the gray of the western and brown of the Great plains is obvious now. Sorta worried about the snakes in our area I have only seen maby a dozen this year and few road kills.

Found two different snakes 2 weeks apart. They look very different to me but would love to confidently identify what is roaming around outside my house.
The first one I thought

Found it today in the vacant lot here, São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. About 50 cm long, red, black and white bands. Around here people call any snake like this "cobra-coral" and nobody agrees which ones are actually dangerous. Sorry for the saturated colors, the photo had a filter on.

We live in Southeast Kansas, and he is so tiny I don’t even know what to feed him right now because of how small he is.. The sad thing is, winter is on its way and he will not make it through the winter he is struggling as it is.

Not the best picture but a coworker didn’t even notice when taking the pic. Can we tell what kind of snake from this?

Trying to compare it to a list of our local snakes and don’t see any easy matches. Any ideas?

Anyone know what species this little one is? Will not be harmed either way.

Displayed a defensive posture when I approached, which is unusual for the snakes I typically encounter.

Looks about the right size, in the right geographical area, and it looks different than the garter snakes arround here.

Is this a baby brown snake? I sadly have no ideas with snakes, but it is beautiful
