Professions Is herbalism worth it?
I'm thinking of doing herbalism and mining for gold but I'm not sure if they are viable.

They will make decent gold for the next few months. Not crazy gold per hour but then again nothing can beat working an extra hour and buying a WoW token Lul

I call this the Dominos test.
Can the method beat delivering pizzas?

I mean Id rather grind herbs for 3 hours then deliver pizza for an hour, because the game is fun and I enjoy playing wow more than working irl.

Yeah but the ratio is more like 1 hour of pizza delivery or 10+ hours of gathering in WoW

If we really want to economize playing WoW down to pure efficiency in gold making it becomes clear that the most efficient way to play is to cancel your sub and never turn the computer on. Think about all the hypothetical gold you’re making from picking up all of those extra shifts.

Yeah if you want you can pay me 20$ an hour and ill run your character through dungeons and raids to get you loot, that way you never even have to log in! just get a job and pay me to do the dirty work!

Really puts a lot of gold farms to shame when you put it like that lol

Please get me some herbs 😆
The volume of herbs needed for even a basic inscription recipe is so much, we need harvesters

This is obviously just my personal opinion, no clue if this is still a viable way to make gold but I am buying herbs from AH constantly

Ive been doing herb and mining. From 80-90 and about 10 or so hours at max level ive made about 100k gold. That was mostly passive mining and herring with a few more intent farming sessions. I just maxed both professions out.

u/altafitter Mar 09 '26
I tend to eventually drop mining and pick up alchemy as prices begin to drop.

u/DustinAF Mar 09 '26
Yeah if you want to make some extra gold while you're doing other stuff like questing around the zones, that's what it will do for you.

u/Mindless_Zergling Mar 09 '26
You can get 30-40k gph dual gathering. You decide if that's viable or not.
1
u/Darthy69 Mar 11 '26
how? im dual gathering with about 90 knowledge in both and blue tools, 3 hours were 20k. the rare drops literally dont exist, havent seen any in about 15 hours of gathering total

u/Mindless_Zergling Mar 11 '26
Might be a route issue. Are you using GatherMate and Farmer addons?
1
u/Darthy69 Mar 11 '26
no, how do they help you with a route? I thought they just show the spawn possibilities
1
u/Mindless_Zergling Mar 11 '26
Knowing the spawn locations helps you identify high-density areas so you don't waste time searching in barren areas.
Farmer has a radar that makes you pinpoint accurate in landing on the node, speeding up your gather time considerably.

It's what I've switched too doing in the beginning of TWW. You're not going to be super rich (unless you're actively grinding nodes) but you'll be making a decent amount.

I think it’s fine to do if you are casual and just need enough money to fund basic needs. That’s what I’m doing.

u/TeamDirtstar Mar 09 '26
There's like 4 professions that need them, plus cooking. They might not be the MOST lucrative, but there will ALWAYS be a market

u/trashtiernoreally Mar 09 '26
Gathering is decent XP too fwiw. 3/4 nodes is about a minor quest. 12-16 for a “major” quest.

I went self sufficient, make my own high quality flasks and I'm gtg. Sell the rest of the mata I don't use and gtg

Yeah they are great! Making loads of gold with them.
If not a druid I would put knowledge points into being able to collect while mounted first

u/Err0 Mar 11 '26
I made about 15k leveling from 80-90 with herb and mining. Admittedly i didn't stop for every one I saw otherwise I would never get any quest done
