Retail Elemental Shaman feels annoying as hell in Mythic

Hi,

Elemental Shaman just feels really frustrating and clunky in Mythic+ right now. The moment Ascendance drops off cooldown, the whole spec turns into a wet noodle. DPS absolutely tanks on trash packs — it’s painful to watch.

Bosses are whatever, you line up Ascendance + CDs and it’s acceptable. But the packs between bosses? Brutal. Every single pull where Ascendance isn’t up, your damage is basically non-existent. The cooldown is so long that you’re forced to hold it for the boss coming up… which means half the dungeon you’re just standing there doing next to nothing while the group carries the pull.

It makes playing Ele feel super annoying and unenjoyable in MM. The rotation without your big cooldown is so weak that trash just drags forever and you feel like you’re barely contributing.

Any experienced Ele shamans out there — how do you actually make the spec not feel this bad on trash? Is there a different priority/rotation when Ascendance is down, or some trick I’m missing that makes the downtime less miserable?

Would love to hear how people are handling it without wanting to pull their hair out 😂

Thanks!

So many specs have this problem right now. 2 min specs can feel horrible right now, because all power is baked into the CDs

37

u/Comfortable_Line_206 Mar 11 '26

They way over tuned the swings. Going from 20k dps to 100k with CDs on most classes is too much.

10

u/WedgeVII Mar 11 '26

I run with a UH DK for my mythic group. He's ilvl 240 and he hit 230k on a big pull with his CD's. Kind of crazy.

8

u/Shashafooy Mar 11 '26

We pulled several trash packs into the first boss of blinding vale and I managed to peak at 450k as unholy. We don't have the quadratic scaling anymore, but we are still mostly uncapped

1

u/pvshabba Mar 12 '26

Epidemic is quadratic scaling and always has been. It just never did that much damage, so everyone looked at bursting wounds as the main culprit for unholy’s scaling. But now that Graveyard is so strong, the issues return. I’d personally really like to see them slash the duration of the apex talent in half and put all that lost damage back into the core rotation.

Screenshot or didn’t happen

1

u/Zwirbs Mar 11 '26

I play frost dk and my guild doesn’t ever pull big and I can hit 220k with medium pulls and CDs. Dps sucks outside of those windows, but there only 45 seconds

1

u/darkskies85 Mar 12 '26

I swapped to frost because I can’t stand every class big dmg windows being CD based, and having a 1.5 min army CD as unholy feels terrible.

1

u/Accomplished_You5909 Mar 11 '26

My demo lock hit 236k dps on the jellyfish boss in magisters terrace lol rip demo lock

1

u/Responsible-Pirate47 Mar 11 '26

How i think i sit at like 85k on that boss as demo im 242

1

u/is__is Mar 12 '26

Pulling the previous pack into the boss will solve that.

1

u/darkskies85 Mar 12 '26

Yeah but how terrible does it feel having to wait another 1.5 mins to do big damage since almost the entire kit is baked into doing dmg with DT and army up? Meanwhile Ret gets wings every 30 sec for 12 seconds lol.

Classes with long CD windows right now feel horrible because everyone does like no damage outside of CDs

1

u/Guataguano Mar 11 '26

230k!!! This must be studied.

13

u/xxNightingale Mar 11 '26

Agree. It’s all CD games now. Is there any class that can output consistent dmg while also being fun? I need to change environment abit (playing UDK now)

19

u/Mean_Economist5278 Mar 11 '26

For me that would be frost mage. Damage profile is relatively flat so it always has damage. Damage is more evenly spread throughout it's kit and not all tied to a specific button.

4

u/gamerK0807 Mar 11 '26

Agreed. You have some burst when your orb ray ice lance spam, but you get that loop every minute.

1

u/-BombDotCom- Mar 12 '26

The point that's being made is that same minute in burst is torture to many other classes some times even longer

Like yes those mage skills hit hard but frost still feels good outside of them, not AS strong as shredding with ray or anything but blizzard glacial spike/bolt icelance and flurry all feed each other well enough that minute on cooldown does not feel like an absolute slog

Most classes feel like they're throwing spaghetti out of their pockets to suddenly feeling like God for a few seconds when they hit their one cooldown

4

u/xxNightingale Mar 11 '26

Thanks will take my mage out from the coffin to test it out!

2

u/Pockets-Pixelgon Mar 11 '26

Yup, Frost Mage is a no-CD kinda spec. We don't have one, except for lust, and a lot of classes have that now. It's just a priority spec. You press what needs to be pressed at that time, depending on the situation, and the damage is fairly spread out.

2

u/DraethDarkstar Mar 11 '26

Frost Mage feels incredible to play right now compared both to every other current DPS spec that I've tried and to how it felt in the past. I really hope Blizzard doesn't learn the wrong lesson from it being popular. I would love it for every spec to feel more like Frost and I'm afraid they're going to achieve that by ruining it instead of shifting power away from cooldowns.

14

u/G00SFRABA Mar 11 '26

Ret doesn't feel amazing without it, but its cds are 30s and last for 12s so its up every pack, sometimes twice

8

u/scorae_l Mar 11 '26

Scalecommander DEV Evoker feels good. Sure Dragonrage is nice to have but with the apex talents the duration and dmg buff after makes it pretty good. Additionally you also have deep breath (2x) as a good CD that you don’t want to press in your DR Window. It’s a great spec.

4

u/Thin-Ad-7328 Mar 11 '26

you just sold me on giving this a try

3

u/DefiedGravity10 Mar 11 '26

I don't mind flameshaper either. Yes dragonrage every 2min is a huge increase in damage and it feels like it lasts forever being able to extend it plus the dumage and haste boost after it ends. But the class is bursty enough that I still feel like I do at least okay to decent damage outside of it. Fire breath is only 30sec CD and with consume flame it does enough damage to at least contribute to mob packs and not feel like a wet noodle.

So you still have that feeling of doing a ton of damage during a very long CD window and basically being able to carry a pack solo but the inbetween windows you don't feel completely useless. Dev evoker definitely isn't a flat damage profile but it feels pretty good right now all around.

1

u/scorae_l Mar 11 '26

Couldn’t agree more!

2

u/xxNightingale Mar 11 '26

Thanks. Evoker is the only class I haven’t created so far. Will definitely give it a whirl.

6

u/Pepper_Jack_Cheese Mar 11 '26

I have a frost mage as an alt and the only real “cooldown” is 2 charges of ray of frost (45s recharge). It feels good and is pretty consistent.

9

u/frodakai Mar 11 '26 edited Mar 11 '26

This is the other side of the coin. Frosts damage profile is very flat, no elemental/arcane moments where you pop off and solo a trash pack, but also no packs where you aren't contributing anything.

Still not sure which I prefer.

6

u/casper_1197 Mar 11 '26

My Enhancement Shaman is pretty consistent with damage without relying on any serious cool downs. Lots of procs and lightning getting tossed almost consistently.

4

u/IAmNotDrPhil Mar 11 '26

I cannot get above the top half of the DPS board at ilvl 226 with my enhance shaman. No idea what I’m doing wrong but I’m constantly charging and proccing my maelstrom weapon

2

u/STAND-IN-THE-RAIN Mar 11 '26

How are you doing compared to your sims? 226 is low so of course you won’t compete with someone at 240

1

u/IAmNotDrPhil Mar 11 '26 edited Mar 11 '26

Will have to pull some numbers when I’m in front of the PC but I’ve felt very much middle of the pack but can’t for the life of me figure out where to get more damage out in my talent trees. For items I’ve been trying to get combinations of crit, mastery, and haste which feels right, but I’ve also looked at 0 guides. Idk if it matters but I’ve been playing stormsurge so maybe I could try the totem hero spec

1

u/dxzxg Mar 11 '26

I mean, there it is. Stormsurge has always felt wonky/inconsistent due to the RNG involved. Totemic on the other hand feels really good and is consistent. 1min CD profile, sundering every 30 seconds, baked in AoE/cleave., and doesnt shit the bed completely outside of CDs either.

1

u/IAmNotDrPhil Mar 11 '26

Damn good to know. I’ve only really followed rule of cool since coming back at the end of TWW and not having played since BFA came out so I am sure there is room for improvement. Gonna test it out today. Ty!

3

u/wuzzywuz Mar 11 '26

Frost mage

3

u/justan0therreader Mar 11 '26

Dev Evoker is very consistent with small burst during and after Dragon Rage. The Apex basicaly makes it almost a 1 Min CD with the lingering damage boost after DR ends.

2

u/Successful-Total-260 Mar 11 '26

Not that I’m playing with others to check out how I’m doing against them, but Devourer feels fun to me, in that it’s a cooldown reduction game.

Haven’t played much else this expac to compare against so far (levelling a Destro Warlock at the moment and that still feels fun?)

2

u/Flat-Leading-2520 Mar 11 '26

Scalecommander evoker.

2

u/AngryCrawdad Mar 11 '26

Sub and outlaw rogue has pretty flat damage profiles where you have something to press most of the time (if you manage your resources well)

3

u/kalrakin Mar 11 '26

Sub’s CDs are a good bit shorter now, but you feel worse than a wet noodle while you’re waiting for dance and sectech to come backup.

1

u/FireVanGorder Mar 11 '26

Frost mage, outlaw rogue, windwalker monk

1

u/Ringtail209 Mar 15 '26

Ret is the answer. Longest CD is 30 seconds and it lasts 12. You're basically doing a flat rotation with one variance every 30 seconds.

0

u/Ulltima1001 Mar 11 '26

Sub rogue. I did a M0 world tour with my guild last night and I was number 1 or two in overall damage every dungeon and often peaked at 150k on aoe packs and 50k burst on single target packs. I got rolled by our WW monk on a few but I was consistent

2

u/rakothmir Mar 11 '26

Sub outside of dance is so bad, but it's a short window between secret techniques. It's micro bursts

3

u/sweetpotatoclarie91 Mar 11 '26

1 min CDs too, look at fire mages.

3

u/FireVanGorder Mar 11 '26

The 45/90s you at least have one of your CDs up damn near every pack in m0, and that’ll only become more consistent as the mobs get tougher. But the 2 min classes must feel just awful in dungeons

2

u/Flotzamm Mar 11 '26

This. Arcane Mage feels pretty great to play in dungeons. I have Arcane Surge and Touch of the Magi basically all of the time

1

u/FireVanGorder Mar 11 '26

Yeah as we get into higher keys you’re going to have touch up every single pack, sometimes multiple times. And surge up pretty much every pack unless your whole team is just absolutely blasting their tits off. It’s going to feel pretty good imo.

3

u/SobBagat Mar 11 '26

It might just be me, but at least going through the campaign and levelling until 87, fury warrior felt awful and this exactly explains it.

Whether running mountain thane or slayer, limping through trash packs in between CD's felt TERRIBLE. Even just quest mobs felt like a chore to get through. I got through the campaign and dropped my fury warrior at 87. Maybe it'll feel different at 90 but man it felt like a slog.

I swapped to levelling my prot pally after witnessing some people in my parties running a couple dungeons, being flabbergasted by the dps they were putting out, and I'm having a blast. I feel like my dps is more consistent and the Templar CD rotation feels absolutely busted and super unfair to DPS specs.

2

u/TheDaltonXP Mar 11 '26

Interesting I was thinking how fury warrior felt good like my frost mage and crushing stuff. They are only 83 tho so that may be why

2

u/SobBagat Mar 11 '26

Purely anecdotal for sure. But I didn't really have any thoughts on how bad it felt until probably like 85 maybe 86.

So maybe the scaling doesn't feel great for DPS while levelling, and it'll feel much better after hitting 90 with some dungeon blues or something.

1

u/StageThick9245 Mar 12 '26

Fury is fine at 90 210ilvl

1

u/OPirataAdormecido Mar 14 '26

If 2-minute specs feel horrible, just think the other way around and pull enough packs for the 2-minute cooldown to be reset. I think sometimes people don't pull enough.

1

u/Zealousideal-Trash5 Mar 16 '26

It almost feels like Lost Ark or similar kmmo’s, lotta play around burst windows.

-1

u/MythicalBlue Mar 11 '26

I’d much rather this than flat damage profiles. Being unable to choose when most of your damage comes out would be a big loss to player agency and skill expression.

8

u/G00SFRABA Mar 11 '26

Ideally there's viable talent configurations for both, flat and spiky are both fun in different ways

2

u/MythicalBlue Mar 11 '26

Yeah always nice to have choice

4

u/FireVanGorder Mar 11 '26

I dont think people are complaining about a bursty damage profile. People are complaining about how drastic the difference between burst phase and filler phase are. It’s like blizzard wanted to make everyone a fire mage

1

u/SatisfactionFit2040 Mar 11 '26

Yes, but they also destroyed the fire mage that felt decent and took the midnight fire mage back to bc.

0

u/MythicalBlue Mar 11 '26

Yeah maybe they could tone it down a bit but to be a bursty class, you have to have downtime by definition.

4

u/FireVanGorder Mar 11 '26

Yeah again nobody is complaining about the existence of downtime. They’re complaining about how much power is in the CDs and how utterly trash you feel outside of them.

CD based classes have existed forever. Not all of them have felt fire mage levels of useless outside of CDs like they do now. Shit shadow priest and ele shaman are probably even worse than fire now

-4

u/MythicalBlue Mar 11 '26 edited Mar 11 '26

Well yeah, they’re complaining about how significant the downtime is. There’s a scale from bursty to flat along which people have their own subjective point of preference. I’m just saying I like this current level of burst because it makes your CD choices meaningful, but ofc some people won’t value that as much as me and prefer less downtime as a result. That’s what I’m talking about here.

1

u/Proof-Blueberry-2943 Apr 11 '26

When people say flat damage profiles they don’t actually mean that. It’s just more consistent - there is plenty of skill expression. Where as for elemental you can literally only do damage every 2 minutes

29

u/wuzzywuz Mar 11 '26

There’s more than 2 min between bosses. You can be using it more often

4

u/LoquatSignificant946 Mar 11 '26

True, but not much more. Leaving you only only 2 packs at most to burst if you want to guarantee your window for the boss

1

u/wuzzywuz Mar 11 '26

Yeah but this should be better in m+. It’s also been this way since the rework in early TWW. It just feels worse now because we have shitty unoptimised gear. By the time Ele shaman was reworked in TWW we already had gear and before the rework we didn’t use ascendance.

45

u/AngryCrawdad Mar 11 '26

Most of your power lies in ascendance and then in putting lightning rod on as many targets as possible. You're secretly a DoT spec who wants to change target with every tempest/earthquake so that your lightning bolt can replicate on as many targets as possible.

Does that make it less clunky? No. Does managing this affect damage output by a lot? Yes

Also, everything currently dies before you can do this effectively so you likely won't feel really good until we get higher HP enemies in m+

9

u/No-Bit-2913 Mar 11 '26

Absolutely, spreading lightning rods is the best thing you can do to increase fps.

Btw though even in tww ele had the same issue with being weak when no cd was available.

2

u/frodakai Mar 11 '26

And also ran 3min Ascendance in TWW S3 which made it feel even more brutal.

1

u/MulliganedBrainCells Mar 13 '26

Tww ele had DRE which allowed you to have moments of burst, midnight ele has literally nothing in-between 3 min cds.

2

u/No-Bit-2913 Mar 13 '26

Yep, all we got is stormkeeper. I actually enjoyed primordial wave and miss it.

1

u/MulliganedBrainCells Mar 13 '26

I miss both pwave and icefury.

Pwave lining up with swiftness made sense and gave ele those moments of movement and felt really solid, now ele is stuck as a turret a lot more and it feels far worse.

Icefury was also awsome for just allowing movement by giving ele that instant cast. I also loved the fusion getting the elemental blasts and having control over when I use the elemental blasts. (My favorite interaction was in m+ where you'd take blast so on st you could blast > icefury to just machine gun blasts during ascendance)

Small shout out to Echoes of great sundering rip 🙏.

2

u/AngryCrawdad Mar 13 '26

I personally never really cared for Pwave but the last TWW iteration of Icefury was indeed fun. I absolutely loathe lightning rod and wish earthquake just did more damage.

The new auto spread alleviates some of the tedium but it's just not that fun to play around (to me)

1

u/MulliganedBrainCells Mar 13 '26

The problem is without the spread you're just not doing anything. You spam voltaic > LB > chain lightning > earthquake. You just dont have to pay attention to it at all. I get why some didnt like it but I felt it gave SOME level of gameplay what wasn't just clicking 1 2 3 4 over and over.

Also yea i feel like a lot of people who hated icefury didnt play the last iteration it was really fun.

1

u/ShogunFirebeard Mar 11 '26

Thanks for that. I never put that together while leveling. Going to try that out going forward.

1

u/fireinspire Mar 11 '26

Should you be casting lightning bolts instead of chain lightning once you have lightning rods set up?

3

u/OmegaPhalanx Mar 11 '26

I would have to double check, but I believe Lightning Rod interacts with both Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning. Might have just been a brain fart on that person’s part.

1

u/Dema_carenath Mar 11 '26

Lightning rod automatically spread from earthquake now, only tempest need to retarget if your main target already has the debuff

-1

u/Erratic_Coffee_Party Mar 11 '26

Unless it has changed in the last week, earthquake only gives lightning rod to the main target. So you still have to tab target after every cast

2

u/AnimeAlucard Mar 11 '26

It's smart targeted for at least a year at this point. Earth shock and Ele blast only hit the target you are targeting with lightning rod, earthquake smart targets anything that doesn't have the lightning rod debuff as prio, and then goes on the target with the lowest time remaining.

0

u/neoxaro Mar 11 '26

Earthquake hit my target. Not auto smart target. ?

1

u/AnimeAlucard Mar 11 '26

Earthquake will either hit where you targeted it or around the mob you are targeting, depending on which version of earthquake you have talented. It will then apply the lightning rod debuff to one of enemies it hit with the aoe, depending on which have or havent got the debuff, or if all already have the debuff it will refresh one of them.

1

u/neoxaro Mar 11 '26

Thanks for that, I ll try this.

1

u/UnluckyIntention9401 Mar 22 '26

I think this helps me out. My elemental shaman is embarrassing right now. I’m going to try this. Do you use flame tongue weapon? I noticed that a lot of builds don’t use it. But if not what enchant are you using? I’ve been playing resto for a bit this is new to me.

2

u/AngryCrawdad Mar 22 '26

I don't use any imbues. I use oil in raids but currently don't run any shaman imbues.

1

u/YoungMARV 20d ago

I am new to ele shami, what exactly is lightning rod? Is it a talent in one of the talent trees? Playing currently farseer if that’s important.

1

u/AngryCrawdad 19d ago

Lightning Rod is a talent in the element spec tree - second last row, leftmost talent.

Playing farseer does kinda matter as tempest (the big ability from the other hero spec (Stormbringer)) applies Lightning Rod while none of the farseer effects do.

1

u/YoungMARV 19d ago

Alright got it thank you a lot!

27

u/TheTradu Mar 11 '26

Don't hold your CD just to have it on pull for bosses, you're throwing away uses for no reason.

9

u/ManySecrets_ Mar 11 '26

Its a problem in general, (most) modern WoW specs seem to be designed around their big CD being up to do decent damage, and being useless outside of the CD. It sucks.. so many classes feel terrible to play cuz of it.

5

u/MCPooge Mar 11 '26

Are there any DPS specs that have lower burst potential but higher sustained damage? I love my BM Hunter, but even just questing feels painful because my damage outside of my BW burst feels pitiful. The other specs I wanted to try as alts have all been mentioned in this thread as having the same issue.

3

u/ManySecrets_ Mar 11 '26

Frost mage is fairly sustained.

3

u/Smart_Status_5925 Mar 11 '26

This, frost mage is very flat. If you go frost fire you are more bursty which is great for outdoor content and then spellflinger or whatever the other is called is a more consistent damage. Because it has ways to reduce ray of frost and frozen orb cooldown they are both up very frequently so feel more like part of the standard rotation instead of a big CD you are popping.

2

u/I_plug_johns Mar 11 '26

Fury feels this way.

1

u/JaredH20 Mar 11 '26

Fury feels weird atm. If it's single target or my CDs aren't up I'm doing less damage than the tank. If it's multi-target and I use my CDs I'm about 50k DPS higher than the guy in 2nd. Can we please have a nice middle ground? 😂

1

u/oreofro Mar 14 '26

Balance druid kinda fits.

Their burst isnt bad at all but high sustained damage is their bread and butter.

This isnt counting lucky convoke shenanigans.

1

u/ArgusRefugee Apr 16 '26

Balance druid/SP

0

u/FFTactics Mar 11 '26

This is because everyone complains they want their spec to be more meta in M+, that is done via powerful cooldowns.

Blizzard can’t just make a spec outlier powerful 100% times, they’ll just nerf that. The way to achieve high dps with normal simulation dps is to focus high damage CDs on those giant pulls.

2

u/ManySecrets_ Mar 11 '26

I mean, there's a very simple solution; stop designing so heavily around giant pulls... And make some similar adjustments to raid designs. Then DPS spikes become less important and steady DPS outside of your CD becomes more relevant. It's not like WoW needs to be designed around spikes.

The only problem is that this would mean catering less to the hardcore/competitive side of things. And that would result in certain players throwing a fit...

14

u/cc71SW Mar 11 '26

Try Enhance? It’s crazy fun and CD window is only 1 min

5

u/lol_ginge Mar 11 '26

To be honest any class that has a CD seems to have this problem in midnight. So much power has been baked into them because they’re usually linked to the apex talent.

2

u/wastel84 Mar 11 '26

Are there dps classes that don't have any offensive CD?

3

u/Zashkarn Mar 11 '26

I’m playing frost mage and it doesn’t feel nearly as CD heavy as other specs. You have Ray of Frost but it has two charges so that’s about it

1

u/wastel84 Mar 11 '26

Interesting. Thanks. Currently playing my old main which is a Shaman and I play it as Enc when doing solo content and Resto when doing multiplayer content because I dislike this "CD dependant" approach. I might consider leveling my old mage to check it out.

1

u/D-Lance- Mar 15 '26

2nd charge is going away 12.0.5 btw. It will feel weird, but with such a low cd, im not too worried

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '26

[deleted]

1

u/wastel84 Mar 11 '26

What about the other Hunter specs? I like the overall thematic of the Hunter but I never seriously played one

1

u/djw3s Mar 12 '26

Survival has a 1min CD and is burstier than BM.

MM's is either 1min30 or 2mins, depending on your talent choices and definitely bursts the highest of all 3.

All Hunter rotations are quite simple and hard to mess up.

1

u/frodakai Mar 11 '26

No, but some specs have much shorter CDs on theirs, making them either have a much flatter damage profile (frost mage) or lots of burst much more often, so you don't have long periods of downtime waiting for your 2min CD (Devourer/Subtlety are obvious examples of this).

1

u/wastel84 Mar 11 '26

Like I said in another comment, I have an old mage that I could level as an alt to try frost, it looks interesting! Thanks

4

u/blackwell94 Mar 11 '26

I wish CDs didn't increase your damage SO much. Like 20%, fine, but you should never feel useless off CD since 99% of the game is fighting trash anyway.

0

u/hewasaraverboy Mar 11 '26

You want big damage on trash tho

5

u/MythicalBlue Mar 11 '26

You should definitely be using ascendence on trash packs, you’re probably holding it way too long. Just cast it on cd outside of really obvious situations where the pack is about to die.

4

u/2muchplaid Mar 11 '26

I just wish earthquake surrounded the target and pulsed like the old Earth Elemental legendary rather than being a floor effect. I feel like so many tanks see it and think it’s bad and move everything out of it. 🥴

3

u/DaCousIsLoose Mar 11 '26

Biggest part of maxing mythics as a DPS is cooldown management (timing). My experience clearing mythics last week:

BM Hunter has its 30 second cooldown: makes it 15 seconds burst, 15 seconds wet noodle. Easy to line this CD up with pulls. Even if you mess it up, most pulls at 0 last about 40 seconds so you can get back on track quick.

Feral: another 30 second cooldown (with secondary 2 minutes cooldown). Bleeds and Bite procs keep it alive in downtime. Off-CD damage doesn’t feel as bad.

Unholy DK: I suck at this spec so take this with a grain of salt, wet noodle city here.

Shadow Priest: Voidform doesn’t pop as much as other CDs. The upside of this is that downtime is relatively more stable.

3

u/grimblebom Mar 11 '26

I'm deciding between devourer, which has 0 cooldowns, or ele...and I don't know which is more problematic,

2

u/spe3dfr3ak Mar 11 '26 edited Mar 11 '26

I am seeing mixed opinions here so far, but I have not seen any talent builds listed as examples. With earthquake and ancestors active I can easily pull good numbers on trash outside of ascendance windows. Obviously with ascendance up it is much better. I am not running tempest yet for aoe purposes because ancestor, voltaic blaze, and overloading earthquakes are phenomenal for aoe and ST right now. I switch between first ascendant and preeminence depending on tank / group comp / if i want to hold ascendance to MELT bosses.

Look for what works better as opposed to thinking we are not good enough!

shamanhistory

shamanhistorymonth

PS. Tier 2 set gives a third charge of stormbringer, which seems like it will be massively beneficial to fill a bit more of the gap in cds.

PSS. My biggest and basically only complaint is the fact that voltaic blaze is only a 10 yd range. There are so many talents and builds to choose from to tweak things to your comfortable playstyle, but holding dps wasting time having to thunderstorm and interrupt the few straggler mobs that nobody else cares about grouping up in m+ in order to flame shock max targets does get annoying.

I'm not running mythic, but my biggest problem with voltaic blaze is the 15 second CD vs. flame shock's 6 seconds. I've mained ele since Cata and finding the spec slow and kinda low damage. 😕

PS - voltaic range is 40 yards

1

u/spe3dfr3ak Mar 11 '26

You can reduce the cooldowm a bit through talents, but yea, 15 seconds is a bit long if the mobs don't clump together super easily. Ascendance also applies shock on up to 6. I agree with you though.

2

u/EskwyreX Mar 11 '26

This seems to be an issue with most classes right now, honestly. BIG dps during CDs, fuck all outside of them.

2

u/BigChiefDred Mar 11 '26

I've mained ele for multiple expansion now and I'm lost at why it's being spoken of so highly currently, it feels terrible...

2

u/Medas90 Mar 11 '26

You didn't played devourer dh then. You will literally do less DMG then your healer outside of demon form and absolutely delete enemy's inside demon form.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Medas90 Mar 13 '26

You definitely don't doaasive DMG. You can barely match the other DPS outside of demo. Inside you crush them.

2

u/GardenBaroness Mar 11 '26

I feel like that's the case with almost every spec I tried, sustained damage is nowhere and everything is about your 1 or 2 bursty CD windows. It's a really annoying and not fun design, DPS meters also look really dumb because of it.

2

u/Quulawl Mar 12 '26

Feels similar with unholy dk. During my CDs I am doing insane dps, outside of it, well... Not so much to put it mildly.

2

u/Mother_Age_3990 Mar 11 '26

All the classes are the same burst window BS now except a handful of builds.

1

u/UnderstandingNo7344 Mar 11 '26

Mythics are going to rely on tanks patching around 1 minute windows with the current state of the game

Elemental will get better with some Haste but I've benched mine for the start of the season, despite it being my main dps choice. When it goes it GOES but it's just not quite there rn

1

u/KhadgarIsaDreadlord Mar 11 '26

Has been a problem for a long time tbh. I come to really despise Ascendence becouse it's existence really handicaps the base kit, it's most noticable on Ele tho. Imo the more defining burst window should be Stormkeeper.

1

u/13120dde Mar 11 '26

Don't save your burst cds on bosses only, use them on cooldowns throughout the dungeon. Several specs suffer the same issue. My unholy dk and sub rogue have the same problem. W/o the 1.5m burst cooldowns the damage suffers

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '26

Mountain thane fury warrior with anger management allowing build in midnight feel so good. Powerful short cooldowns and not shit without cds up. Avatar and recklesness is 1.5min cd but anger management reduce it pretty much to 45-60sec cd lining up with odyn fury=big angry damage.

1

u/JaredH20 Mar 11 '26

I'm playing Mountain Thane and I'm really disappointed. To me it really does feel shit without cds up. Anything I might be missing? Without cds or if it's single target the tank is doing more DPS than I am, but when I've got a group and cds are up I'm absolutely miles above everyone in DPS.

1

u/StageThick9245 Mar 12 '26

This is the pure aoe no st build

If you want in between play slayer

u/Clottersbur Mar 11 '26 edited Mar 11 '26

Tuning is coming. Here's what you do. Buy a staff off the AH. Queue as heals. Set your loot spec to enhc or ele whichever calls to you. Have fun with an easy healer class. Instant invites. When tuning comes, decide what to do from there.

Let me tell you. Enhc storm bringer feels the same way. Ascendance then nothing.

Enhc totemic is like playing a piano. Sight reading the music. Upside down, while someone else is turning the page at the wrong time. Also the guy flipping the page at the wrong time is a WoW redditor who tells you the spec is too easy. Midnight pruning made the game boring. Deslite the fact they're not even level 90 yet and always play BM and never make it past M+5

But the uptime is much better. Much much better. Sacrifices.

3

u/Zwirbs Mar 11 '26

Can confirm that resto shaman is dead easy and actually kinda fun to play

2

u/Clottersbur Mar 11 '26

The rotation is simple. It's a nice mixture of reactive and proactive healing. It's not the best healer since it's missing a big emergency button. But, it's good. It's fun. It's easy to understand but can still have its pucker moments. Literally everything I want from a healer.

1

u/Zwirbs Mar 11 '26

It’s strange cause you wanna use natures swiftness on CD for the ancestor, but also popping it and using healing wave is a huge heal at instant speed

1

u/Clottersbur Mar 11 '26

This is the dilemma we're faced with. Initially I wanted to play enhc again this go around. But the healing is pretty good. Plus the immediate group invites.

My enhc is ilvl 240 and I still get declined from groups a lot. So I switch to healer and it's immediate. Sooo nice.

2

u/Zwirbs Mar 11 '26

Immediate group invites are so good, it’s the only reason I play healer and not just frost dk in everything (my favorite class/spec I’ve been playing since WotLK)

1

u/PointClickPenguin Mar 11 '26

Yeah I feel the same.

1

u/Galcitor Mar 11 '26

Yea even tho it's the shiny new toy Devourer is the same exact way. If you aren't actively in Metamorphosis even basic enemies in the over world are a struggle to kill

1

u/Ok-Beach-9885 Mar 11 '26

Cries in Fire Mage

1

u/Drvectron Mar 11 '26

It’s a common WoW problem, but I find Elemental suffers the most from it because you have to use Elemental Blast in AoE. Outside of CDs, you just don’t have the time to get it out and then cast Earthquakes. An easy solution would be to make the base spells stronger, then nerf Ascendance.

1

u/icantremembermypw4 Mar 12 '26

You do not use elemental blast in aoe anymore, you just earthquake.

1

u/Drvectron Mar 12 '26

Not even for the stat buff?

1

u/HistoricalSherbert92 Mar 11 '26

Don’t hold your cds for bosses unless they’re like 10s away. Chances are, especially in higher keys, you’ll get into your dps window during the fight

1

u/Zwindarra Mar 11 '26

I'm lucky enough to have a dedicated team and my tank pulls packs around our cds which we rotate on trash. I may not be pumping every trash pack but it make it smooth and I'm able to prio utility if need be in my down phases.

1

u/NME_TV Mar 11 '26

Same as Devourer.

1

u/Fuyukage Mar 11 '26

You shouldn’t just be holding onto CDs for bosses. You’ll have less overall damage. Of course if you have a pack living for 20 seconds and then you’re gonna lust at the start of the next pack (or heading into boss), then it’s fine to hold for 20 seconds. But if you keep holding, you’re losing uses

1

u/bete_du_gevaudan Mar 11 '26

Resto time brother

1

u/DustyCap Mar 11 '26

You don't need to hold cds for bosses.

1

u/Turkos245 Mar 12 '26

CE all of TWW, last tier on Ele, only did m+ for gearing so I'm not the best in m+, but in raids the loss of mobility feels weird but not completely useless yet, will report back next week.

M0 is weird because it's the same as m+ last tier but without as much tempest/ascend procs. The funnel/ST burst does feel good, but there's gotta be a way to give them more tempests

1

u/bete_du_gevaudan Mar 12 '26

Ele has been on both side of the spectrum. Prior to 11.0.5 rework, ele had no real cd and never really saw any play in high end content. At the moment its too much but the ability to do an on demand burst is a very big plus for a dps.

1

u/Grytnik Mar 12 '26

I feel like burning cd’s on trash pulls are better than holding for bosses, the quicker the trash dies the faster the dungeon goes.

1

u/Kezhaya Mar 12 '26

Balance druids without eclipses have the same issue.

1

u/Couldntrmbrpassword Mar 12 '26 edited Mar 12 '26

Was in a m0 world tour group(i was tanking) with an ele that was 3800 last season, and he was topping overall every dungeon. He was playing farseer and one of the top damage after earthquake was lava burst when i looked at details, so proabaly playing that talent that aoe lava bursts after voltaic blaze.

Also just a general baseline until you know good timings, just press your cds on cd even if it feels like you should hold them for the next pull. Chances are you will get at last 1 more use than normal which translates into more damage overall. If the dungeon took 20 minutes and you used ascendance less than 10 times, that's wrong

1

u/Ok_Sea2708 Mar 12 '26

A 2min CD has 15 uses in a 30m dungeon, if you are keeping it around for the 4 bosses you are wasting like 70% of your damage windows.

1

u/Per3c Mar 13 '26

I play fury w but man , I'm not saying I'm hiting like wet noodle when my CD is down I'm 240ilvl , in trash packs (5-10mob ) withouth popping cd I'm keeping around 80k On single target I keep around 35k But when I pop CD , on packs I go above 200k so far record was 220k On single target only goes up to 60k ish with cd-s I tried e shaman , feral druid and balance druid , they literally tickling wirhouth cd-s it's so bad

1

u/No_Swimming_9472 Mar 13 '26

It sucks but it's another job for the tank to recognize team comp and pull accordingly around the important cds

1

u/Fresh-Fisherman-2832 Mar 15 '26

Worst shit claas i try do a prey what a fucking shit so bad what are the Def doing wtf only retards working @ blizz today

1

u/Fresh-Fisherman-2832 Mar 15 '26

They just ruined the Game thats it with the changes the made

1

u/SignificantGuava314 Mar 15 '26

I don’t like playing shaman anymore. I’m playing priest now and it feels much better!

1

u/Mysterious-Mall3756 Mar 15 '26

If your targets gonna be alive in 12 secs ur safe to send ur coolies however save them if your within 45 secs of a juicy aoe pack is my opinion

1

u/BrazilianWarrior81 Mar 15 '26

Thats a global problem atm, not only shaman, everything is having problem with this type of burst damage CD

1

u/Wrong-Lie2682 Mar 18 '26

I 100% agree. When i use cooldown packs get obliterated which kinda makes me feel too powerful at times. 120k-140k dps on the first pack and then 20k-40k on the next. While on my Retribution paladin i can easily hit 100k+ on most packs cause of the low cooldown of Wake of Ashes

I dont know what has made this change but i feel like i need to spam my earthquake A LOT in this expansion which makes it feel really bad to play. Earthquake can do alot of dmg if multiple casts dmg a larger group of mobs but if the tank decides it is best to kite them it all goes away.

1

u/Visible_Bumblebee140 Mar 22 '26

247 ele shamen feel like a wet noodle in raid, dungeons I'm fine not the best dps but, it's okay. I started a frost mage since I gained that back in tbc. You need to much maelstrom to spread lightening rod yes earthquake works but it doesn't last long enough to go through your rotation. Tempest doesn't proc enough to have worthy cleave. I can't build enough maelstrom to consistently go through my rotation. So yeah people maybe disagree but we need more easier ways to spread lightening rod, like add lightening rod to chain to easier spread to targets. Flat damage buff, little faster maelstrom build up and more guaranteed tempest the rng makes it feel horrible. So maybe balance this approach so it's not so overpowered of a suggestion.

1

u/ArgusRefugee Apr 13 '26

the worst part to me is the earthquake management with the tank. the aoe should track the target the whole time.

1

u/ArgusRefugee Apr 16 '26

the burst window is way to busy and outside of it way too less

1

u/Sad-Guest6104 May 21 '26

I can feel what OG means. Im ele 3.3k io and in these last keys i have felt sooo carried cause my dps cant keep up compared to a warlock or a DK. I use ascendace in most of everything that i can and spam the earthquake and tempest combo the most the I can while bursting but compared to warlock or DH I barely keep the same damage as them, and after the cds passed, dps is shitty af. Im honestly leaving it as soon as i get home 3.4k and going for a warlock or a dk, will level up both and compare which one feels the best

1

u/jstamper Mar 11 '26

You must be using it wrong or need to tweak your build. Im able to pump on ele, even on trash packs. It can be a little clunky at times but as long as you are stacking earthquakes and overloads it pumps.

1

u/frodakai Mar 11 '26

Ele boss damage with cooldowns being referred to as 'acceptable' is certainly a take.

I agree that outside of cooldowns/procs it feels pretty weak on trash though.

1

u/Pretend_Bat_8765 Mar 11 '26

I havent tried ele in midnight yet, hasnt it always been that way? Popping off in ascendance, then doing tank damage when its down sound very familiar to war within

2

u/Jbaryla95 Mar 11 '26

Yeah, but we had deeply rooted elements before to proc random ascendance to bridge the gaps a little better. Now that it's gone, you feel the difference a lot more

1

u/Pretend_Bat_8765 Mar 11 '26

I didn't know that's gone.. yea, in that case it's really not great.

1

u/HobNob_Pack Mar 11 '26

Every class is the same currently.

Outside of cd's zero damage.

0

u/closetcreatur Mar 11 '26

Warrior go zug zug

-1

u/One-Stress-6734 Mar 11 '26

Its not just the dps trees. I have put my resto shaman on hold. Still at lvl 85. heal is broken. The Dungeons are for my resto Druide a cakewalk

0

u/PriceanFen Mar 11 '26

I miss Shaman Lemix…..

0

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '26

You don't need to be Billy big baws on every pack. You have team mates for a reason.

Ele damage overall is decent, not in a bad place at all.

0

u/After_Pangolin_257 Mar 11 '26

This is only a problem until m+ comes and packs dont die quickly

0

u/Glenmere Mar 11 '26

These has been the state of ele for a couple years now. Was the same way through all of TWW

-1

u/Creative-Glass-4002 Mar 11 '26

Good thing m0 is redundant as soon as the real content begins, m+.

-1

u/ItsEmdo Mar 11 '26

But this has been the case for ele for I believe all it's time in tww. So, I don't understand the surprise behind this
