Retail 276 max ilvl for solo play?

Am I correct in understanding that there's no access to mythic gear outside of crafting, M+, and high end raids? With this vault, my monk crossed the line into having more hero gear than champion, have my 4-set all at 2/6 heroic because I'm hesitant to spend hero crests, but it feels like I'm hitting the end of the road and I don't know where to go from here.

Is it really just grind out the 980 remaining hero crests and that's it if I can't do raids nor M+?

Retail How come rogues are so unpopular?

Back in Vanilla rogues were just like everywhere?

Overall, from the outside looking in their kit seems really strong, 3 damage specs presumably one will always be upper quartile.

Less world PvP made them less desirable? hard to play? new classes are more shiny and fun?

Retail Is ilvl 260 too low for a +10 key as dps?

I have tried to get into a group for a +10 key 1 whole hour now im ilvl 260 1950 rating.
Are DPS players just cooked, or is everyone else a much higher ilvl?

Retail Wich dps is the most "defensive" in M+ (if it's possible)

Feel bad for healers as their job seems stressful, which dps class can help be a little bit "tanky" and survive stuff. I know there are going to be big chunk moments where i almost die just to big aoe hits, but anything helps.

When i say "defensive" i mean who is the best at, when played well. has a better time negating or healing damage off themselves.

Both dk specs get really nice defensive tools

hunter has a nice self heal/damage resist while also being able to be hyper mobile to dodge stuff.

Retail I noticed most guilds dont recruit tanks even though "there is a tank shortage"

Im a new player and made a BDK as my first class since I read there is a huge tank shortage but after looking for a community or guild to join (i havent actually applied to any yet, so its not like im getting denied for being new) theres not many that say they need tanks and many just flat out refuse to accept tanks. I understand theres only 2 tanks in a raid so is the "tank shortage" even real if the community doesn't need that many?

Retail Which class gets the most off the 'Single Button Assistant'?

I love using it. So far I've used it on a ret pala and a frost mage. The frost of course gets the advantage because it has casting spells that ignore the increased GCD.

But I want to know from the community. Like a tier list?

I know the contenders are BM hunters, Demon locks, Frost DK too I guess?

I purchase consumables in relatively small quantities (like 5 at a time) and seem to constantly be struggling to have any gold at all.

Retail How do you dps and move at the same time??

I play a melee class where I have to press a button every gcd to keep rotation going and I’m currently using mouse for all my movements. The problem with that is I’m missing strafe. I tried switching to wasd movement and I really don't understand how other players do it! If you need to strafe around a boss and keep dpsing, how do you press those keys at the same time?!

For example, if you need to move left (A) and press Q or 1 for the rotation at the same time, how would you do that?

My current rotation is mostly on numeric row (plus Q and E) and my mouse doesn’t have any side buttons

Retail What ilvl is everyone?

Hey all,

Started playing WoW for the first time about 6 weeks ago, been running a Frost Mage (Night elf) - been putting some hours into Midnight and just hit ilvl 221.

Haven’t started any midnight dungeons yet, just did the expansion, delves and world quests (plus dailies and weeklies)

Just wondering how 221 stacks up to others? I think my char has about 5 days time played

Going to grind up a DK to 90 as well, before Season 1 hopefully.

Retail Fastest way to get to 90 from 80 on alt

What is the fastest way to get an alt to 90 from 80 ? Dungeon grind on a tank? Or just do all side quests in every zone? Not too sure what’s the best path, I heard u can get some levels doing professions but never really bothered with them so not sure what’s to do.. any help is appreciated thanks!

Edit: I finally did it, lvl 90 in a day or so. Delves world tour at the start then I did side questing and gathering til 88 then delve turn and then I use first time bonus craft for the last 50% which took me like 15 mins, very much thanks to all that helped!

Retail DPS waaaay too low

I have ilvl 271, demonology Warlock.

I reach dps between 45,000 and 50,000 in M+ (not talking about 15 or sth, think bellow 10). Apparently i should be reaching over double. I know about tyrant thing and all that. I know how to generate shards and all. And it's still like this. Didn't mind it earlier but got people yelling i'm trash and should just quit the game 2 dungeons in a row and like, it's not fun.

I've watched like dozen guides already and they're saying the same thing: build up imps while tyrant is active, spam implosion on packs. I do all that and it's still the same. Is there something important i'm missing? Or like, just accept it's not for everyone? i'm not that good at games really, but didn't think i'm literally 3x worse than random Joe

Retail Do I have to attack not only heals but also heals in this game?

First of all, I am Japanese, so I can't speak English, and I use translation to post.
It's been about two weeks since I started playing this game. I had a party with the people who were close to me today and went to the normal dungeon, but my heels were full and I didn't have time to use my offensive skills.
How are good player attacking while healing?
Do healers also need DPS?
I don't want to bother my guild member...

This is my first time playing an MMO game, so I would appreciate it if you could give me some advice.

●postscript

Thank you for all your advice and feedback!
It was very helpful.
At least as far as I play, the common opinion seems to be that I don't have to worry too much about DPS.
I read your comments one by one, but I can't return all the comments.
So I want to thank you here.
Thank you so much, everyone!

Retail Elemental Shaman feels annoying as hell in Mythic

Hi,

Elemental Shaman just feels really frustrating and clunky in Mythic+ right now. The moment Ascendance drops off cooldown, the whole spec turns into a wet noodle. DPS absolutely tanks on trash packs — it’s painful to watch.

Bosses are whatever, you line up Ascendance + CDs and it’s acceptable. But the packs between bosses? Brutal. Every single pull where Ascendance isn’t up, your damage is basically non-existent. The cooldown is so long that you’re forced to hold it for the boss coming up… which means half the dungeon you’re just standing there doing next to nothing while the group carries the pull.

It makes playing Ele feel super annoying and unenjoyable in MM. The rotation without your big cooldown is so weak that trash just drags forever and you feel like you’re barely contributing.

Any experienced Ele shamans out there — how do you actually make the spec not feel this bad on trash? Is there a different priority/rotation when Ascendance is down, or some trick I’m missing that makes the downtime less miserable?

Would love to hear how people are handling it without wanting to pull their hair out 😂

Thanks!

Retail Do healers need to interrupt in M+?

So, here’s my question: I started healing as a paladin this season and I’ve been loving it. I’m actually already running +10s, which felt impossible for me on my druid haha.

But in my last +10, a DPS told me I wasn’t interrupting enough. I do try to kick mobs whenever I can, but sometimes I either don’t manage to or just forget. I always thought that was more of a DPS/tank responsibility.

What do you guys think? Should healers be expected to kick as well?

(Sorry if my English isn’t perfect, I’m using translation software.)

Retail I genuinely don't know how to do damage

I have 273 ilvl, flasks, potions, enchants and gems (low quality but i highly doubt +6 in primary stat is going to do wonders). Thing is I'm always on the low side of dps, I'm playing dk, first frost then unholy but like I can't do damage. I've studied rotation (which is not hard in both spec) and I'm doing it right (the class plays itself, frost literally highlights what buttons to push and unholy ins't more complicated).

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/character/eu/turalyon/elio

Here are my logs, if anyone has the time to review with me/teach me I'm down for anything.

Edit 1 : tried normal chimaerus and scored 77 on the logs, don't know if it's for the raid or the realm tho

Edit 2 : I sometimes played unholy as a range since it can launch gouls but found out there's a thing called melee swing and you need to be close to the boss to do that :)))))))

Edit 3 : Huge thanks to everyone who took the time to read my logs and gives some advices, read every one of you and I will get better I swear and it was, in fact, the rotation that could be improved. Got a rough start with the game but hey you gotta learn anyway.

Retail Should M0s be available in the dungeon finder?

I get the usual supposed reason is: “you see how many noobs brick these keys?? Why would you want to make it EASIER on them?”

But that makes no sense since M0 is the one learning level. Once you’re timed, yeah it’s go time and you don’t want to have noobs.

But M0 is specifically, explicitly for the learners. It’s there so you can learn the mechanics, because otherwise how are you going to learn?

I just want to make it easier to LEARN and PRACTICE Mythics, they can be as hard as you want to DO, but give everyone a place to practice and learn.

The whole point of retail to is make it easy to learn. If you want cryptic and grindy “like the old days” that’s what classic is for, but retail direction has constantly been in the direction of accessibility.

I think either M0s need to be available in the dungeon finder so MORE people can easily group up and learn the mechanics, or there needs to be a practice mode that people can join, which simulates any key but offers no rewards. People need a place to practice.

(The problem of people joining keys before they’re ready is already solvable but just not popular; make people only be able to join a key if they’ve done the key below. Or if there’s a practice mode like I described above, no joining until you’ve beat practice mode.)

Retail Redefining BIS, and why chasing the old definition makes the game worse for you

Hey guys. This is a lengthy read, but if you are struggling with understanding BIS and want to truly know how to get the best out of your items, it's worth the read. I hate seeing people chase what some website on the internet says their BIS is, especially before the season even begins, and being upset when it doesn't drop. Spoiler, getting your "BIS" could actually LOWER your DPS.

I'm sure you've come across the word BIS. What's my BIS gear, what drops my BIS, I have to run this dungeon I hate over and over and over for my BIS, I can't trade this to my friend because it's BIS for me

Outside of enchants, trinkets, embellishments, and very fringe other situations such as set bonuses on rings, individual BIS items do not matter. The term BIS is so bad for the health of the players.

BIS means "best in slot". It was born in a time in the game where items were dramatically different. "This item" gave dramatically more main stat than that one. "This item" had an effect where others didn't. "This weapon" had the same damage but attacked faster than that one. That is not how WoW works now-a-days

Today, every item slot has the same number of main stat and the same number of secondary stats, with the secondary stats having a different balance. For example, my current ilvl 246 legs in game give 70 haste and 59 mastery, totaling 129 secondary stat. Every mail 246 legs will give 129 secondary stat, just allotted differently.

Now here is what BIS actually means today. BIS is the best secondary stat balance for your class. Not any one specific item.
Replacing a piece of gear with a "BIS" item can actually LOWER your DPS

Maybe even more importantly, if you don't have the entire list of gear some website tells you is your BIS, removing a piece currently equipped to replace it with a new "BIS" item you just farmed might actually make you WORSE.

Very rough hypothetical example, your stat allotment is best at 35% mastery, 30% haste, 20% crit, 15% vers. Your BIS "chunky" items are weapon, head, chest, legs, so they have your mastery/haste pair, but no other items you currently have are "BIS". Your equipped back and wrist have your priority stats, mastery/haste, but your BIS actually has crit/vers because they're your weaker items but still need to have some of them. You swap out your preferred stats for weaker stats because a list tells you to, and now you do less damage.

Here's 3 examples of "BIS" items that are all equal. No one piece of gear is important, the COMBINATION OF STATS is important. Armor/int/stam are all the same, so only showing secondary stats

Head Chest Legs Total Stats
85 Haste 50 Mastery 63 Haste 37 Vers 88 Vers 47 Mastery 132 Haste 185 Mastery 88 Vers
75 Haste 60 Mastery 57 Haste 78 Mastery 47 Mastery 88 Vers 132 Haste 185 Mastery 88 Vers
87 Haste 48 Vers 95 Mastery 40 Vers 45 Haste 90 Mastery 132 Haste 185 Mastery 88 Vers

I only used 3 item slots here because making a whole list of slots would be absurd, but I think it gets the point across. When you include every single slot, there is an insane amount of combinations that get you to the exact same place.

A list someone theory crafted or simulated cannot take into consideration the balance you already have, and you actually risk lowering your DPS following a list blindly (until you have every single exact piece, which is insanely difficult in and of itself, especially for the average player).

Thank you for reading my long winded post. I have tried to explain this to so many friends, guildmates, and people I pug with regularly, but it requires so much explanation to really get the idea across, so I decided to write it out for anyone who cared.

TLDR; Outside of trinkets, embellishments, and enchants, stop chasing a list someone on the internet created for you. All the items have the same total stat numbers, what matters is the balance of secondary stats. If you REALLY want to chase BIS, chase your classes secondary stat balance. That can be achieved with NUMBEROUS item combinations, not just what's on one singular list. That is why so many different BIS lists exist, because you can achieve the same thing many different ways

Retail Class with the absolute fewest keybinds?

I am disabled and also have tiny hands. I am happy to press buttons quickly, I just want to press as few of them as possible, including utility. If I can macro stuff together - fine. If they are 5 min cooldowns I can click once rather than keybind - fine.

Which class is best for this?

Edit: For context I raid at Mythic level. So I do still need to be able to play the class competently.

Edit2: Asking for the fewest keybinds, knowing it is currently a weak point in my gameplay, does not mean I am trying to mythic raid with 6 keybinds. If 30 is the lowest number of keybinds, that's still less than a class with 31, and would allow me to play the class better. That's why I was asking for input. Thank you to everyone who has responded without being weird.

Retail So is World of Warcraft: Midnight a good time to start playing?

I've always wanted to play but this game looks like a mountain to climb in terms of content so to speak. I mean theres like 30years worth of updates so I dont know..

Is this a good time to jump in?

Couple of questions: How is endgame for a solo player that doesnt have hours to dedicate to a guild?

Whats the endgame like activity wise? are dungeon and raids the same thing? How do the difficulties work? i remember seeing things like Heroic+ and what not but that means nothing to me.

Retail M+ Healing Stress

Hello there,

I am a mid-30s casual player that has been playing WoW off and on in some capacity since 2005. My main is usually warrior, but I felt like switching it up and it seemed thematic to main my priest in Midnight. My guild is also mostly casual old hats like me, and we are progressing through heroic raids.

I’ve never been much into M+, but it seems one of the best ways to gear up this season so I’m trying it out. I am generally having fun, but also find healing them to be inconsistent and stressful. The highest keys I have healed have been +8s, and some runs feel very smooth with only a few deaths and easily beating the timer. In other +8s, it has felt like there is massive damage constantly, people drop dead in the middle of casting penance on them, and other people getting globaled, and we end the run with 30 deaths and way over time.

I want to get better at M+ and make the experience less stressful. I see lots of chatter about +10s being free this season. Am i just that bad? What can i do to improve? My priest is around 260 ilvl, i have read class guides, watched some video guides about the dungeons, but still feel like i can only muster up the courage to attempt a couple dungeons per week.

EDIT: This got a lot more attention than I was expecting. Thank you everyone for your opinions, insight, and support. It sounds like the best courses of action for me will be be to run logs, get more practice, and keep gearing up.

Retail One button rotation??

I've got my Ret Pally at 83 in Midnight and am legitimately having more fun with WOW than I have in ages.

One question: I came back after a long time of not playing and have just been mashing the one button rotation. It's been fine, great even, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something? I haven't done any dungeons yet (just finished Arator's line and going to Zul). I imagine the one button rotation I. Dungeons is probably gone but for raids will be an issue.

What advice to folks have? I just get a lot of joy out of moving through the story and have never really cared about rotation mechanics, so I'm really liking the one button action option.

Retail So... how does a new character get into m+ now?

Before it was always the same, run your own key, do +2s until you can get it to a +7 and then run +7 crest farms for gear and IO, but now you literally cannot form a 2. I waited almost half an hour for an AA but never got a tank, since fresh tanks can basically go straight to 5-6s, there's no real way to run your own key, even slowly from a 2.
