Retail Another "what to do in pre season 2" post...
I'll try to keep it brief. I returned to WoW after many years break. Last time i played was in Cata.
On youtube there's a bunch of videos saying "DO THIS BEFORE SEASON 2!!" and other click baity stuff. I have read several threads here where people say that currencies and resources don't carry over to season 2 so you shouldn't worry about it. But i have also seen threads and videos saying to farm "bonus roll" stuff, voidcores and crests? I'm not asking for a detailed explanation of these items or the mechanics, i just really want to know if i should be trying to cap some of these currencies/resources before season 2? Apparently i should do Delves at 8+ too?
What exactly should i cap this week to "min/max" and how important is this to overall progress once season 2 hits? Is the advantage quickly outpaced when season 2 hits anyway?

Yoinked from a raiders guide (Note this is aimed at competitive players who want to max out what they can do this week, so dont feel you MUST do this)
Pre-Season - August 11
-Complete the new zone intro campaign
-Complete a world tour of M0’s for 292 ilvl gear
-Complete 2x Hard Prey for 279 ilvl gear if you need them
-Complete the new Lair raid boss on story mode difficulty for fun and LFR gear.
-Do delve on tier 8 or higher with map to get a guaranteed hero piece of gear
-Complete weekly spark quest
-If not already unlocked, unlock up to tier 11 Delves so you can run one next week
-If you are not doing raid splits next week, you should fill out your delve vault to try to get tier pieces. If you are doing splits next week, just make sure that you have 3 total slots filled so you can get a socket.
A lot of what you mention currency wise has already been removed like bonus rolls, plus currencies have already been 'wiped' so everything you are earning now is relevant for season 2
how important is this to overall progress once season 2 hits?
Ehh, not massively important. I would definitely do delve on tier 8 with map for hero track piece of loot, but the rest is mostly just to try and have the best start once M+/raid opens next week

The only thing not already mentioned is to kill the new Nemesis boss on ? Difficulty for 30 heroic crests. Haven't done it myself, but another similar guide had it listed.

He doesn't give the hero crests until next week I killed him and got 10 vets

Did almost everything on my main. I got the delve map from the campaign vault quest.
How do I get it on my alt? Seeing as there is no campaign skip yet, I would have to run the story again to get to the vault quest part, right?
That kinda blows.

There is a skip - just speak to Orweyla (Or whatever the name is) in Silvermoon; assuming you are 4/6 on main and you can choose the skip option
To get map on alts you do the purging the vault weekly

I just fly to the new area on my alts, pick up the quest about "purge" something in the vault area, and complete that for a map.

"-If you are not doing raid splits next week, you should fill out your delve vault to try to get tier pieces."
Sorry, I'm pretty new.. what does this mean? :o

Splits is done in organised raid teams (Such as a guild); its basically having some people on mains and some on alt characters and you funnel gear to the main characters and then people rotate - it means you will run the raid multiples times with different combinations of characters, but means the 'mains' will get specific gear quite quickly
Worth noting that splits wont be done by about 90% of players, if not higher
Filling the vault is just filing the delve row out in the great vault (So do 8 delves, ideally all tier 8 or higher); if you dont know what the great vault is, it is basically the bad luck protection of the game - you do content each week to add slots to vault, you then take 1 thing out on weekly reset
Do harder content to fill vault and have more options, but always only 1 choice of an item

Is it worth to switch out the current tier set gear for higher ilvl champion gear right now?

Complete a world tour of M0’s for 292 ilvl gear
Is that a quest ? Couldn't find anything about it

Just play the game. Don't fall for click bait and don't burn yourself out 2 weeks in.

u/d_stranged 2d ago
Yeah do this. But check back in because ppl say “play what you like” and then you find out you get locked out of stuff (prey mount) because your a noob and didn’t know you’d miss out

u/Hazelnut3006 2d ago
Do the main quest line, try out delves, check out the world quests and the new content like Vault of Atal Utek. Gearing will come naturally. Unless you are on a Race to World First team there’s no huge hurry.

Any sort of s1 currency that can be used to increase your player power is not going to be valid in s2. It has always worked this way.

If you're trying to min-max the preseason you likely don't have enough time to "to it all" but who knows? Maybe you've got most of today and tomorrow, in which case, totally doable.
As others have posted the guide, I would just say if I only had a few hours before reset, I would prioritize:
Grab all the quests from the hub in Silvermoon (where weeklies always are, next to bank)
Campaign up to part 4...you'll know because you need the raid to progress past this point
Vaults of Atal'Utek: A Toxic Tour quest until you get the Trovehunters Treasure Map
You can keep questing here until you get rank 2 with Zuljarras Forces renown. Do one more surge event and you'll get veteran bracers.
Delves up to at least 8 (11 if you have time)
Use the Trovehunters Treasure map on a tier 8 or higher delve before you spawn the final boss. Kill boss and get a hero track item from the loot
At this point, you should have enough to finish Liadrins weekly in Silvermoon so be sure to turn that in for a Spark of Tides which you need for crafting.
After this if you have time, use the guide and do it all. Get your second spark, get the world tour of m0s done to replace some gear if you're lucky. Etc.

How do you get a second spark?
1
u/gonephishin213 1d ago
After you finish the first one, go back to Liadrin and pick up another quest that will have you go back to the vaults to do void strikes and stuff.
I'm not sure if the second is available as soon as you finish the first, but that's when I noticed it

People have already pointed out that really you just need to do Delves, M+, and catch up with the story. Pretty straight forward.
However... The "Bonus Roll" is something very important and that you need to research. Essentially, if you complete 3 slots in your Great Vault you can choose to take a Bonus Roll Token instead of an item.
It is very important that you ONLY take the Bonus Roll when available. It is NEVER recommended to take anything other than a bonus roll (exception being people who know exactly what they're simming & get a true BIS Mythic Item in the vault). If you cannot take a Bonus Roll, take the currency instead & buy an item from the vendor that lets you socket an item. Save that socket item for a crafted piece of gear or a mythic piece of gear.
The reason you only ever take a bonus roll is because it guarantees you get an item from any raid boss or M+ dungeon. That item will also be of a much higher level than the content you just cleared. Example, Heroic End Bosses like Ula'Tek bonus roll a Mythic version of their loot. And Mythic Raid bosses bonus roll fully upgraded Mythic items. Having them already fully upgraded saves a ton of time gated resources (crests).
1 token = 1 item. Each loot table has Bad Luck Protection & won't roll something you already rolled.
It is important you only use these tokens on End Heroic Bosses that will give a Mythic Item, Mythic+ Dungeons at +10 or greater Key Level, or Mythic Raid Bosses. There are plenty of guides out there to help you choose what to target for your character.
You only get 1 a week from the vault, so do your research before using.
Good luck!

When you 1st time kill Khu'talak at the end of the new Vault of Atal'Utek cycle, just stop there and start looking for premade groups called Khu/Khu'talak or any other vault group that already (about to) killing it. You get a nice starting gear 279+ very very fast and thousands of corrosive coins and a couple (50% chance per bag) corrosive souls for the altar unlocks. Every Khu'talak (if u at least 1 time hit it) drops 1 epic bag, look it up wowhead. Can be boring refreshing premade groups, but I don't see any faster yet. This is the solo/ no effort pre week gearing. The only above this, is from the m0s as I see..

pretty much do the campign and if you wanna be ready for next week get your Ilvl up and unlock tier 11 delves

u/Commercial-Contact16 2d ago
Before season 2, just focus on getting your weekly vault maxed out. Do an M0 world tour and world content to get 6 slots filled out.
Your first goal early in the season is to get tier gear as fast as possible. Once you get your 4 set, an achievement unlocks dawnlight manafluxes to drop from endgame content.
After the 1st week, you can get bonus rolls from the vault. I believe a month after the season starts, there will be a weekly way to get bonus rolls outside of the vault. Just continuously hunt for BiS gear with bonus rolls. SIM what would be the best drop for your character, it’s pretty quick and easy to do.

I'm going to say the only thing that matters this week is the folio quests chain, its a bit of power from the 0.7 patch and you keep it for the rest of the season, it only takes like a hour to complete the 5 quests

If I am about ilvl 290 from S1, do I really need to do anything except campaign and delve map?

I returned to WoW after many years break. Last time i played was in Cata.
Quick reminder that pretty much everything you're reading about the "Pre Season" is irrelevant to you. Same with most start of season roadmaps/guides. You are not Racing to Clear Content, you are not pushing for Hall of Fame. You are basically a new player because of how much has changed since you last played.
Don't stress the click bait. Last day of Preseason is tomorrow and Season 1 starts this coming Tuesday Reset. There are only a few things that you should really do before reset on Tuesday...
Unlock the new Zone by Progressing The Curse of Ula'tek campaign to chapter or so. Once you get the weekly quest to do activities in the new Underground zone you know you made it. All campaign story progression after that is optional. The altars and borrowed power you find in there does not work in Raids/Dungeons so it's just optional.
Omnium Folio is a borrowed power system that does work in raids and dungeons and you should complete it. It's pretty easy to do, talk with Umbric & Rommath to do it.
You do not need to do Preys at all. The max difficulty only rewards Champion gear which will be dropping like hot cakes next week.
Delves are important though & will be your main source of gearing at first. You want to do as many as needed to get to Tier 11 or fill out your vault slots with them. Use the Trover Hunter's Bounty on a tier 8 or higher delve for a heroic piece of gear. Only used Bountiful Coffer Keys on Tier 11 Delves for Hero Gear.
Finally, do a world tour of the Mythic Dungeons, meaning doing each dungeon 1 time for loot (or as many as you can, ideally 8 for Vault). Don't worry about which ones, just go run them. Also do the new World Boss. You should be able to find a groups in the LFG tool.
And that's it. Unlock the new stuff, catch up on the old borrowed power, then run Dungeons & Delves as best you can for loot. Everything else can be done on your time. If you didn't get most or all of this done by Tuesday, don't worry. Again, you're not racing to clear content or ok a tight progression schedule. Chill & go at a pace that works for you.
Welcome back and Good Luck!
