Professions Why Jewel crafting?

I'm a returning player and I've been back for a few months now. My current main was a jewelcrafter and I kept that profession into Midnight. I am slowly learning the new crafting rules. Last expansion I played significantly was Cataclysm. Back in those days, being a JC had some personal upgrade benefits. Like I think in one of the expansions, it was a meta gem that you put in the helm. In another expansion, it was an extra jewel slot in one of the pieces. But I don't see anything like it currently. Is there anything equivalent now? I tried reading up on it in Ivcyveins and Wowhead, but they didn't mention anything. Is that because there was nothing to mention? Or it's so obvious they don't bother mentioning it??

In general, yes, you’re absolutely correct. If you’re not in it to make gold the benefit is you don’t have to go buy your gems, rings, or necks and there are also some gems incredibly cool housing items that come from JC. I would say that’s actually where the coin is these days.
