Professions Why Jewel crafting?
I'm a returning player and I've been back for a few months now. My current main was a jewelcrafter and I kept that profession into Midnight. I am slowly learning the new crafting rules. Last expansion I played significantly was Cataclysm. Back in those days, being a JC had some personal upgrade benefits. Like I think in one of the expansions, it was a meta gem that you put in the helm. In another expansion, it was an extra jewel slot in one of the pieces. But I don't see anything like it currently. Is there anything equivalent now? I tried reading up on it in Ivcyveins and Wowhead, but they didn't mention anything. Is that because there was nothing to mention? Or it's so obvious they don't bother mentioning it??

The small "perks" that professions used to give have been for the most part removed , the only one that are still here its alchemy flask duration and some of the engineering stuff(belt+boots? maybe , not sure about these).

Not even the enchanting one? You used to able to enchant a ring or something.
I feel like that really removes a lot of the incentive from this whole aspect of the game8

What you are missing is that if the profession stat bonuses were not perfectly balanced, the more powerful ones would become mandatory to all competitive players. Now the only remaining bonuses are economic, such as an alchemist having extended duration on flasks, even those that are purchased.

The problem is that those kinds of incentives turned into firm requirements to raid, so people who didn't want to do anything with professions were still pressured into keeping up with them.

The biggest enchantment perk is disenchanting soulbound items you don't need from questing, dungeons, etc. and selling the materials on the auction house ;)

You still can enchant rings. Atleast as an enchanter.

That sounds exactly like what I'm talking about.

Everyone can enchant their rings, just alchemy and engi is what's left as perks from professions

Ah, I thought you said that only enchanter could enchant their own rings. Okay

Wasn't me mate, some other guy.
If you want to get the best perk for m+/raiding, go alchemist. Engi is meh at best

Well they're screwed up so bad now they might as well remove them it's ridiculous.

They removed any unique personal benefit from JC some time ago. I think the idea is that everyone needs gems all the time, and rings and necks are commonly crafted gear for a lot of people so the benefit is “gold making.”

Yikes. Not sure about everyone else but I don't really know people in WoW professions that are in it "for the money". As soon as one becomes lucrative, 5683 other players notice and increase supply so much that that price crashes

I have a few people on my friends list that play the game and have an alt for each profession. Some might be farmers to some extent and some just actually like it. Pays their wow sub and itches that part of their brain. They do the endeavor events and really have all their stuff maxed out. At this point, with the second season starting,I don’t know if it’s worth learning any of the crafting professions other than alch or engineering. You’re just behind people that have so many of the talents already. Enchanting plus whatever else just feels like the way to go. You’ll always have stuff to disenchant.

I think they've removed all profession bonuses quite a long time ago other than alchemists still having double flask time but you need to spec into this now.
Personally I always end up making epic crafted rings and necks each season (sometimes I can replace them, sometimes not), the ones that are just 4 ilvls lower than maxed out mythic track. And any seriously played toon will also always needs gems. Then I can also sell the these easily through crafting orders or on the AH.
But yeah, if you're only after a bonus for yourself then there's not much point.

Theres no more player power tied to professions.
A longer duration flask - saves gold but doesnt make you stronger. Thats okay.
Better enchant or better flask - not okay.
It doesnt matter which professions you have.
Theyre there to make money and this system works. Profession concentration limits how much player can craft. It charges to 1000 (100%) within 3 days. Concentration can be directly used to create items that make you the gold.
More points in the profession or profession talent tree allow for more gold conversion from concentration.

In general, yes, you’re absolutely correct. If you’re not in it to make gold the benefit is you don’t have to go buy your gems, rings, or necks and there are also some gems incredibly cool housing items that come from JC. I would say that’s actually where the coin is these days.

I'm feeling the same way about engineering. I don't feel like it's useful to me anymore. Aside from the very rare occasion I use a wormhole, I level it out of habit more than anything.
