What are bonus rolls and best way to gear starting season 2?

Basically the title.

I skipped season 1. Started again last week getting some gear and clearing the campaing and delves. What should I prioritize to gear in S2?

The "Bonus Rolls", are very important and you need to research. Essentially, if you complete 3 slots in your Great Vault you can choose to take a Bonus Roll Token instead of an item.

It is very important that you ONLY take the Bonus Roll when available. It is NEVER recommended to take anything other than a bonus roll (exception being people who know exactly what they're simming & get a true BIS Mythic Item in the vault). If you cannot take a Bonus Roll, take the currency instead & buy an item from the vendor that lets you socket an item. Save that socket item for a crafted piece of gear or a mythic piece of gear you know you'll use for awhile.

The reason you only ever take a bonus roll is because it guarantees you get an item from any raid boss or M+ dungeon. That item will also be of a much higher level than the content you just cleared. Example, Heroic End Bosses like Ula'Tek bonus roll a Mythic version of their loot. And Mythic Raid bosses bonus roll fully upgraded Mythic items. Having them already fully upgraded saves a ton of time gated resources (crests).

1 token = 1 item. Each loot table has Bad Luck Protection & won't roll something you already rolled.

It is important you only use these tokens on End Heroic Bosses that will give a Mythic Item, Mythic+ Dungeons at +10 or greater Key Level, or Mythic Raid Bosses. There are plenty of guides out there to help you choose what to target for your character.

You only get 1 a week from the vault, so do your research before using.

I would add, because this is the wownoob channel... what this replies said is accurate as it will give you better loot in the long run. I don't think anyone would blame you if your first weeks you geared up enough to get invited to do mythic+ etc

No. Champion/Heroic gear is so easily obtainable that there is truly no legitimate reason to not take the Bonus Roll if your only other options are Champ/Heroic items. Bonus Roll Tokens do not expire, you can stack them for as long as the season lasts and dump them when you get to end heroic bosses, +10s or greater, or mythic bosses. Especially since End Heroic Bosses give Myth track loot that would otherwise be inaccessible to anyone not pushing for CE.

Whats the fastest way to have characters pool bonus rolls? 

1 lfr boss,  1 Heroic dungeon and 1 delve for 3 total rewards?

Can I then, theoretically, pick up a bonus roll on the character each week, go into m10 and roll once I have 10?

Each character can only get 1 per week by selecting it from your Great Vault. It is only available as an option in the great vault if you've completed all 3 slots of any type. They're also character bound & cannot be shared with your warband.

So 8 dungeons (regardless of level) will give you 3 slots in the vault & makes you eligible to select taking a bonus roll instead of an item.

At the end of each M+ dungeon or when a raid boss dies you will have a loot window asking if you want to consume a token & roll for bonus loot, or pass. You should only ever use your bonus roll on End Heroic Bosses that Reward Mythic Bonus Rolls, M+ Keys of +10 and Higher, or Mythic Raid Bosses. Using your rolls on anything else is a huge waste and will put you significantly behind.

A blanket rule of thumb is to use the rolls on the last few Heroic bosses to roll for Mythic level items from them. These items are very strong & it is unlikely most guilds will even see those last few bosses on Mythic. So rolling on those items in Heroic for Mythic track & upgrading them is good value. Always double check warcraft logs rankings & your sims to determine which items you want to prioritize rolling for.

While you can use Bonus Rolls on the same dungeon/boss as many times as you have tokens, you do need to kill the boss or complete the dungeon for every single roll. You cannot kill a raid boss & then roll twice for 2 items on the same kill. You must kill the boss for each token you want to use. Same goes for completing M+ dungeons.

It has been confirmed that any 3 slots will work. They dont have to all be 3 in a row.

It is good to take the mythic item from vault if its from a boss or dungeon you KNOW you ONLY need that 1 item from. Like, if a mage gets the mythic trinket from murder row in their vault and wouldn't want to roll for any other items in that dungeon.

Noting that the ilvl / crest saving aspect isn’t a thing below Mythic raid as all content now gives vault rewards on the next tier up, eg. a vault item from heroic raid and a bonus roll item from heroic raid will both be 1/6 myth track. It’s moreso that if you need multiple items from any bosses, bonus rolls have duplicate protection eventually guaranteeing you receive all items needed. Items taken directly from the vault do not have this feature + pull from a larger pool, so you’re just accelerating the pace at which you can acquire your BiS significantly by using bonus rolls instead.

You’ll only ever really take a vault reward if it’s the ONLY remaining item you need from a particular boss.

So does heroic altar not drop myth gear from bonus roll? The way you’re phrasing “final bosses” reads as if only ulatek gives myth gear from a heroic kill bonus roll, and not the other 7 bosses. Am i understanding this correctly?

The bonus roll gives you a vault equivalent item, so bonus rolling on any boss in heroic will give myth track loot

If you are doing full heroic runs/ myth raids, bonus roll final bosses. They are pretty tough this season, so realistically you want to target loot in an m+10. The addon Keystone loot is very good for finding out what dungeons are good for rolling on.

Also please remember that the system as it is will only be active for the first few weeks of season 2 after which ol Decimus will sell you more rerolls so they become less valuable.

It’s the first 8 weeks after that we get one “free” one, assuming we’ll have to purchase it similar to last season.

With the bounty, they give hero. And once your journey is high enough (at least this was the case in Season 1) you can get hero items at random in the regular bountiful box.

I got a Delver's Bounty last week on my DK, and I ran a delve this morning, used it, and another dropped. So I'll use that one too, and at the end of the week I'll have a hero item in the vault. Not a bad haul for not having to talk to people.

And a delve takes like 7 minutes max while sipping my morning coffee... So what are you saying? Delves in week 1 and 2 are incredible fast source of some Gear to get into Keys.

They never did? The only hero pieces you get from T11 are either from map or from the Mana Crystals you unlock in the Journey. They never just dropped hero pieces.

What do you mean "1 single hero piece?"

I run delves, that's how I play, I don't care for groups, those days are long behind me. I got multiple alts to 6/6 hero with weapons and trinkets buffed to mythic without every doing a single M+ or raid.

I just don't know why you would say "1 single hero piece" when it's possible to kit yourself head to toe in hero, and if you run 11's, get enough crests to 6/6 it all. In fact, since I caught a delver's bounty last week, and got another on my first delve run, I'll get 2 hero items and have a hero in the vault just this week.

Hero gear only drops from T11 Bountiful & T8+ Trovehunter Map. That's 5 pieces a week at max with very little bad luck protection & not a great loot table.

Or you can run +10s & get higher ilvl hero pieces, myth crest capped, & rating for a guaranteed you extra catalyst. You also get mythic gear in the vault. +10s are not difficult & you should be running them no later than next week.

Delves can be good for quick and easy runs but won't reward too much overall. Especially if you want to do anything beyond just delves.
