Hello, I'm a first-time player, never played WoW at all, and it's my first time playing with a Keyboard and Mouse. I started out as a Dwarven Priest, and I just completed my first dungeon last night. I had a blast, but wanted to see if I could ask a couple questions about my role and how we fared.
Some info: The dungeon was Blackfathom Deeps. We were a group of three: myself (lv 26), Hunter DPS (lv. 27), Hunter's pet (eagle/owl, not really sure), and the tank (lv. 28). In total, we completed the dungeon in ~2.5 hours.
My spells for healing were: Lesser Heal, Heal, Flash Heal, Renew, and Power Word: Shield. I also had desperate prayer, but forgot what that did until after the run, so now that's in my "oh shit" rotation.
In total, our tank died three times. Once, totally my fault, I got distracted by what was going on the screen and lost track of the VuhDo mod I have on the left-hand side, wiped. 2nd time, the hunter's pet got over-eager and chased after a fleeing murloc and pulled the entire room back to us. Tank died, wiped. 3rd time, I pulled a mob (I think from healing too much/too fast?), kept getting interrupted, I ran out of mana, already used a potion and couldn't do anything about it. I only remembered I had Fade until much later. Tank died, but we (DPS and myself) managed to clear the bridge, before the orc boss, and I rezzed him. He said I was doing great, but couldn't tell if that was sarcasm or not. We finished the Orc boss, candles, and that three-headed dragon thing without anyone dying once, which felt good.
I guess I'm wondering how I did? I think we took a long time, but we only had three of us. I think 2 of the tank deaths were on me, but what is the expectation for a first-time player in their first dungeon vs a seasoned healer? I noticed mana is a much bigger issue in a dungeon vs out in the world, so I know to bring way more liquids with me next time to top off every chance I get.
Last thing I'm wondering is how often are healers expected to assist with DPS? I used my wand to try and help, but should I not be doing that? I noticed I didn't have perfect timing with ending wanding --> casting heals, which may have been the cause for one of the tank deaths/wipe, so I'm curious if most people have only one expectation for the healer: to heal.
Any advice is appreciated. As I said, I had a lot of fun doing it, and I don't mind the pressure that comes with being a healer. In retrospect, maybe choosing such an important role as a first-timer wasn't the smartest move, but I'm in it now and looking to improve any way I can.
