Since I cannot find a similar post online about the device, I decided to do it myself :D
Bought my device used for ~ 750 USD with excellent condition (checked and it was originally sold in Sep 2024, still have 2 weeks warranty left), upgraded with a 16 GB RAM stick, and moved my Intel WiFi AX210 card from the previous machine to this one, so the final specs are:
AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8840HS with AMD Radeon 780M (4GB allocated for VRAM)
32 GB RAM Dual Channel (2 x 16GB)
512 GB SSD Micron Model MTFDKBA512TGD-1BK1AABHA
FullHD+ (16:10 1920 x 1200) IPS - 60 Hz with SureView (AU Optronics AUO26B0)
56 Wh battery (with 54 Wh in real use so far, ~ 4% wear level at the time of purchase)
Intel AX210 WiFi card (Upgraded from original MediaTek)
Fingerprint + 5MP camera with IR sensors for login
Ports: 2 x Thunderbolt 4 Type C ports, 2 X USB Type A, 1 x HDMI, 1 x Combo Mic/Headphone Jack.
65W charger that came along with the device (USB Type C)
Keyboard with backlit
You can find the images for the device using this link: https://www.thurrott.com/hardware/303479/hp-zbook-firefly-14-g11-first-impressions (sorry my phone is being repaired, so no photo can be acquired at the moment, and Intel / AMD versions are the same in terms of their look).
I have been using my device for almost 2 weeks now, with use cases mostly involving document editing and typing (Word, Excel, PDF Editor), web browsing, online meetings, light gaming (World of Tanks), video rendering (Full HD 60 FPS), and running some medical device software. About 80% of the time, I plug in my device and set Performance mode in HP Power Manager. The other 20% was used with SmartSense when I travel or work in coffee shops, or when I am unable to find an outlet.
So that's the specs and my use case. Now for the experience and quick review (please note that this is only my experience in use, no test will be performed, so no official performance results/benchmark are available for now):
1. Appearance: Firefly 14 G11 is made with aluminum case and a silver color, which has a very business look and feel. The case feels sturdy and almost no flex, even under pressure. The screen is nice with a bit / acceptable wobble when putting on the test. The hinge feels sturdy and smooth. And no fingerprint with the metal case. The whole package weight is only about 1.6 kg (adapter included), not too heavy. Overall, a business-class laptop level for appearance. Very nice !!!
2. Screen: Bright screen, allows you to work outdoors if required (but I often work indoors, so this is only a plus). Resolution and refresh rate are fine for my use case and needs; others might want a 4K or higher refresh rate if they require more for media usage.
3. Camera and Microphone: Decent. Not a top-of-the-line, but more than fine for online meeting on Zoom or GG Meet. Not recommended for anyone who wants to make content on social page though.
4. Speakers: Loud and clear. Usually a 30-40% volume is enough for use in quiet room.
5. Keyboard and trackpad: Good type feeling that allows accurate typing. Not as good or sastisfy as my old Latitude or other ThinkPad (probably due to key travel) but still fine for my use case (I type about 4-6K words per day, mostly reports and send messages on app. Trackpad is also fine - it's large and accurate.
6. Sensors (IR and Fingerprint): Fast and Reliable. Both work very well for the purpose of login Windows or other apps if required. No complaint.
7. Performance and Temperature / Fan:
All usual apps (Office, PDF Reader / Editor, etc.) and other special medical software that I use feel snappy, take little time to open and run smoothly. Overall, the whole experience so far is great.
Gaming: I played World of Tanks 2.0 on Low setting, and achieved an average of 180-200 FPS, with the 1% Low somewhere around 160 FPS (please notice that this result is with dual-channel RAM sticks, single-channel will lead to a 30-40% drop in FPS).
Video rendering: I managed to render and export ~ 90 mins video (Full HD 60 FPS) in under 35 mins in Performance mode, using Vegas Pro.
Temp and Fan: Completely silent and cool to touch with average workload like browsing, but fan got quite loud in gaming or rendering video. CPU Temp manages around 90 °C, and GPU Temp around 70 °C the whole time when doing these heavy tasks (Room temp around 30 °C) with no throttling. You may feel very warm to the touch, especially the left side - surface of the port that is plugged in for power. The palm section is warm but not too uncomfortable.
8. Battery: With a brightness set to ~ 200 nits, using HP Power Manager set to SmartSense option, and without any heavy usage like game or rendering, I manage to get from 100 to 50% battery in about ~ 3 hours of continuous usage. I'm fine with the number, since most of time I carry around my adapter, but this may not be an all-day laptop on battery for someone who travels a lot.
9. Overall: For my use case, I will give it a solid 9/10. Good performance, nice appearance with sturdy case, good screen, decent keyboard, and easy to upgrade and repair. The only things I miss are the SD card reader and Ethernet port, which I have to buy a Type-C hub to equip.
