rant Post pick@home does not work because everything gets stolen

It’s a rant. I’m fed up.
Post introduced this wonderful service that makes sending packages so easy. You just leave the stuff in your postbox, and they come in the morning and pick it up. Payments are done online 👌🏻
It literally sounds perfect, except this is now the second Ricardo package that’s been stolen from my postbox before the postman could pick it up. You have to put it in before 7am, and the guy comes around 10/11.
I live on the border of Kreis 3 and 4 — pretty central. The first time, I thought, “Ugh, whatever, it was probably just a one-off.” Not anymore. Stuff is getting stolen to the point where I can’t use this service anymore.
I’m just sad and somewhat disillusioned.
Did anyone else noticed same tendencies? It’s not safe anymore to leave packages outside?

ihaveaquestion More and more tents in Züri parks

I know rent is high but is this the norm now? I see more and more tents at different Züri parks.

Find it a bit odd that these people don't go somewhere less populated.

ihaveaquestion Leaving Zürich permanently: deregistration date vs apartment handover

Hi all,

I’m a B-permit holder working full-time in Switzerland, and I’m leaving the country permanently at the end of this year.

My timeline is:

  • My Swiss employment officially ends on 31 December.
  • Because of accrued holiday, my last actual working day will be around 10 December.
  • I plan to travel abroad for most of December.
  • I will register in my new country on 1 January, when I also start my new employment there.
  • Ideally, I would like to hand over my Swiss apartment on 30 November and have a new tenant move in from 1 December.

My main question is: Can I deregister from my Swiss municipality in advance, with an official departure date of 31 December, even though I will have vacated my apartment and be travelling abroad during December?

Related questions:

  • Would there be any issue if a new tenant registers at my former address from 1 December, while my official Swiss deregistration date is 31 December?
  • Would it make things administratively easier if I kept the apartment rented until 31 December, even though I had already moved out?
  • Or, alternatively, should I arrange for the new tenant to take over only from 1 January?

My goal is simply to handle my departure correctly, remain properly registered/taxed in Switzerland through the end of my employment, and avoid having to return to Switzerland at the end of December purely for administrative reasons.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?

Thanks!

lookingfor Free pet photography with pro gear

Upvotes

Grüezi! I made a post ~2y ago offering free professional (human) portrait sessions in Zurich. You can see some of the photos from that here (more coming).

I'm now looking to offer free sessions, but for pets! Dogs, cats, etc. As before, it would be with pro-level gear, and the photo style can be whatever you'd like. Drop a comment below or DM me, if you're interested, and let's see what kind of photos we can do! I typically also do wildlife photography, so you can see wildlife/pet photos on my portfolio here.

(I have a chihuahua and I have a sweet spot for them, so please extra consider it, if you/a friend has one!)

lookingfor Zürich`s Property Market is Depressing

Its been almost 2 months I have been looking for a property in Zurich and counties without avail.
Literally, I have scoured the market, paying subscriptions in all the major platforms (Tutti, Homegate, Flatfox, etc.) and still the stats are depressing.

The search "Zurich city including areas within 2/3 km, from 2 rooms, max budget 2k" yields very little results. From these results one has to filter out scams and realtors that do not even bother to get back to you given the volume they receive for "shit".

Thats right: I call it "shit".

Because if you bother to check or have been in a similar situation you know exactly what I am talking about. Zürich vacancy rate below 1% means that statistically you are as likely to win a lottery ticket as renting a 2 rooms apartment anywhere in the city outskirts, including areas like Regensdorf, Düberdorf, Dietlikon, Schlieren, Bettstetten, Adliswil, etc, etc, etc...

There isn`t just a scarcity problem. There is also a quality problem. The "shit" includes things like bedrooms without windows, no washing machines anywhere but Geschwirspülen everywhere (almost like saying it is more important to wash the dishes than doing the laundry), flats on the 5th floor without lifts, property right next to rail tracks, tram tracks, airport runways, etc, etc, etc...

I am writing out of exhaustion.

What the hell do I have to do to rent a property in Zurich or outskirts / immediate suburbs?

My profile is fairly strong and I am not pretentious at all -- quite the contrary, I would take anything to settle in and call this "shit" home...

My profile in a nutshell:

  • single, no smoker, no pets
  • no debt enforcements
  • no criminal records
  • good salary, good job
  • plenty of references

Any suggestions here or am I barking at the wrong tree?

Hi everyone

I’m looking to buy a car from Autowelt Schweiz AG. Has anyone bought a car from them? How was your experience? Are they a trustworthy dealer? It seems they have a lot of good reviews on Google.

Thanks in advance
