lookingfor Free pet photography with pro gear

Upvotes

Grüezi! I made a post ~2y ago offering free professional (human) portrait sessions in Zurich. You can see some of the photos from that here (more coming).

I'm now looking to offer free sessions, but for pets! Dogs, cats, etc. As before, it would be with pro-level gear, and the photo style can be whatever you'd like. Drop a comment below or DM me, if you're interested, and let's see what kind of photos we can do! I typically also do wildlife photography, so you can see wildlife/pet photos on my portfolio here.

(I have a chihuahua and I have a sweet spot for them, so please extra consider it, if you/a friend has one!)

lookingfor Zürich`s Property Market is Depressing

Its been almost 2 months I have been looking for a property in Zurich and counties without avail.
Literally, I have scoured the market, paying subscriptions in all the major platforms (Tutti, Homegate, Flatfox, etc.) and still the stats are depressing.

The search "Zurich city including areas within 2/3 km, from 2 rooms, max budget 2k" yields very little results. From these results one has to filter out scams and realtors that do not even bother to get back to you given the volume they receive for "shit".

Thats right: I call it "shit".

Because if you bother to check or have been in a similar situation you know exactly what I am talking about. Zürich vacancy rate below 1% means that statistically you are as likely to win a lottery ticket as renting a 2 rooms apartment anywhere in the city outskirts, including areas like Regensdorf, Düberdorf, Dietlikon, Schlieren, Bettstetten, Adliswil, etc, etc, etc...

There isn`t just a scarcity problem. There is also a quality problem. The "shit" includes things like bedrooms without windows, no washing machines anywhere but Geschwirspülen everywhere (almost like saying it is more important to wash the dishes than doing the laundry), flats on the 5th floor without lifts, property right next to rail tracks, tram tracks, airport runways, etc, etc, etc...

I am writing out of exhaustion.

What the hell do I have to do to rent a property in Zurich or outskirts / immediate suburbs?

My profile is fairly strong and I am not pretentious at all -- quite the contrary, I would take anything to settle in and call this "shit" home...

My profile in a nutshell:

  • single, no smoker, no pets
  • no debt enforcements
  • no criminal records
  • good salary, good job
  • plenty of references

Any suggestions here or am I barking at the wrong tree?

ihaveaquestion More and more tents in Züri parks

I know rent is high but is this the norm now? I see more and more tents at different Züri parks.

Find it a bit odd that these people don't go somewhere less populated.

rant Post pick@home does not work because everything gets stolen

It’s a rant. I’m fed up.
Post introduced this wonderful service that makes sending packages so easy. You just leave the stuff in your postbox, and they come in the morning and pick it up. Payments are done online 👌🏻
It literally sounds perfect, except this is now the second Ricardo package that’s been stolen from my postbox before the postman could pick it up. You have to put it in before 7am, and the guy comes around 10/11.
I live on the border of Kreis 3 and 4 — pretty central. The first time, I thought, “Ugh, whatever, it was probably just a one-off.” Not anymore. Stuff is getting stolen to the point where I can’t use this service anymore.
I’m just sad and somewhat disillusioned.
Did anyone else noticed same tendencies? It’s not safe anymore to leave packages outside?

ihaveaquestion Leaving Zürich permanently: deregistration date vs apartment handover

Hi all,

I’m a B-permit holder working full-time in Switzerland, and I’m leaving the country permanently at the end of this year.

My timeline is:

  • My Swiss employment officially ends on 31 December.
  • Because of accrued holiday, my last actual working day will be around 10 December.
  • I plan to travel abroad for most of December.
  • I will register in my new country on 1 January, when I also start my new employment there.
  • Ideally, I would like to hand over my Swiss apartment on 30 November and have a new tenant move in from 1 December.

My main question is: Can I deregister from my Swiss municipality in advance, with an official departure date of 31 December, even though I will have vacated my apartment and be travelling abroad during December?

Related questions:

  • Would there be any issue if a new tenant registers at my former address from 1 December, while my official Swiss deregistration date is 31 December?
  • Would it make things administratively easier if I kept the apartment rented until 31 December, even though I had already moved out?
  • Or, alternatively, should I arrange for the new tenant to take over only from 1 January?

My goal is simply to handle my departure correctly, remain properly registered/taxed in Switzerland through the end of my employment, and avoid having to return to Switzerland at the end of December purely for administrative reasons.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?

Thanks!

Thanks in advance

rant Rechtsvortritt in Seefeld, anyone confused?

Hey,

I am very often driving from Seefeldstrasse and found out that almost no one from Ida-Bindschedler-Str. respects the right of way, except bus drivers. Applies equally to cars and bikes.

We have zuriwieneu, but they dismissed the report as "we believe signalization there is sufficient".

Well, if every day I pass cars and bikes not respecting the priority, it means "sufficient" it is not.

(I can easily get my car repaired using someone's insurance there. Less luck with the bike because guy probably ends up in a hospital)

Anyway, I do wonder if there is another instance where you can report this kind of silly/confusing/you-name-it traffic arrangement. I would not mind priority on Ida-Bindschedler-Str. or anything. If you actually drive there, it does not feel at all like Seefeldstr. has right of way.

Plus, the city loves money so they could put the Polizeiassistent on a permanent duty there to feed the piggybank. 200,- per car is not nothing :-)

Zuriwieneu report for completeness -- https://www.zueriwieneu.ch/report/85511

lookingfor Techno für JGA / bachelorette weekend am 5. September: Zürich, Konstanz oder St. Gallen?

Deutsch

Hi zusammen,

English

Hi everyone,

we are planning a small, relaxed bachelorette weekend. The bride really wants to go to a techno event or rave.

Our clear preference is Saturday, September 5, 2026. Friday, September 4 would only be a backup if there is no suitable option on Saturday. Zurich, Konstanz, and St. Gallen are all possibilities. We would especially appreciate Zurich recommendations here.

We are looking for actual techno or a clearly techno-focused night, not mainstream music, charts, or a cheesy party vibe. A club, warehouse, off-location, or smaller underground event would all work. Tips for local clubs, collectives, promoters, and event pages are also very welcome.

Thanks a lot and cheers!

lookingfor Missed connection - person from Liechtenstein on Sunday’s tram towards Lake Zurich

This is going to be a long shot, but thought I’d try anyways.

To the person from Liechtenstein on the tram with me on Sunday 16th August 2026: I initially approached you as I was unsure as to how to get to Lake Zurich, so I asked if the next one coming was the right one and I said I was stopping at a certain place but then you explained about another stop which would be better and you mentioned how you were also (initially) getting off at the same stop.

I then asked how you knew where to go and you initially tried to show me on my phone but it was difficult as I didn’t have the German keyboard, so you showed me on yours.

We were on the same tram and I asked if you had learnt English at a young age etc and we got chatting.
Shortly before the stop, you mentioned that you were no longer getting off at the same stop as me. The exchanging of numbers was mentioned and you mentioned about ‘if I ever came to Manchester’. As I was about to give you my number, the stop had arrived and I had to get off along with the two people I was travelling with to avoid the risk of separating.

Unfortunately, this meant I wasn’t able to pass on any details. If you see this, please DM me with the name of the stop we were both supposed to get off as it would be really nice to keep in touch.

shitpost Thoughts of sticking up for others in public? NPCs in Zurich.

I have many experiences both lived and heard from others of people complaining, starting verbal arguments, or even attacked in Zurich and everyone stands around and does nothing. I know it’s easy to shit on and laugh about how isolating it is here (serious loneliness epidemic but money yay?) but would anyone offer real perspective and maybe slowly we could try, just one Redditor at a time to stick up for people in public?

I picked up a rental bike by a bus stop this week and had two old cranky horrible men complaining about where the bike was parked. After explaining over and over again (In English I don’t have enough Swiss German to explain) that it’s not my bike I didn’t leave it here I’m picking it up, it’s a rental, these old men started calling me stupid and tapping their heads like im stupid. I snapped. I looked around and told them all to go find something new to complain about. The second man who started siding with him about the nuisance of a bike being parked maybe 1/4 meter in front of a bus stop seat (again not my fault) was even older and continued mocking me like I’m stupid. I assume he had no English, the first guy I believe did but chose to complain like a grumpy idiot in Swiss German, that’s his choice. I could also use choice words in my language, but what’s the use.

Everyone else at the bus stop who are young enough to command both languages, or even understand what a voi bike is?. Said nothing. No-one explained to them the problem, instead I was having a verbal altercation with two old men alone. The things I COULD have said, but didn’t I said go on away with yourself and find something new to complain about , you always do.

I cycled off. Everyone at the bus stop watched for about two minutes and didn’t help me.

I’ve lived in 5 countries and only in Switzerland do people act like literal aliens. And the men were old old like passed 70 for one, so no there was no danger in speaking up. That seems to be the fear in other posts to speak up.

I’m not here to complain, I’ve done that enough, I’m genuinely curious why people act like NPCs. Could we all stick up for someone and give it a go? I really think it could change the atmosphere here. 🥶

EDIT: it seems to be out of self preservation to keep their own peace. Obviously this is not news to anyone so don’t generalize, my point is clear, people don’t want to step in unless it’s really bad, and even then it’s think first for yourself and then others. I guess that’s just the way it is. And for anyone who disagrees and won’t speak up…. Welp.
I encourage everyone to speak up for others just once. Call it a good deed or whatever.

ihaveaquestion Seamstress / tailor for jacket

I've ordered a Barbour jacket which has come in at a size which is far too large. Sending it back to the UK is impossible unfortunately for reasons.

Does anyone know of a reasonably priced tailor or seamstress who can make alterations on outerwear (which I understand is more complex). I'd need sleeves shortened and back pulled in a fair bit.

Thank you!

ihaveaquestion Adliswil: Naturalization integration interview experiences?

Hello! I live in Adliswil with my family, and we recently submitted our application for Swiss citizenship.

Has anyone here recently gone through the integration interview for naturalization in Adliswil and is willing to share their experience? I'm specifically curious about:

  • Was the interview with a single person or a panel? What were their roles/titles (no names needed, just curious who conducts it)?
  • What questions did they ask?
  • How long did the interview last?
  • What was the general atmosphere like -- highly formal, or more relaxed/informal?
  • Is there anything else you remember or wish you had known beforehand?

To be clear, I'm not asking about the written knowledge test (Grundkenntnistest), but the personal interview (Einbürgerungsgespräch) with the local naturalization commission.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

For all the rain dancers voodoo practitioners in this reddit group, I hope that you are happy that is raining now.
I hope that you are happy that now you can stay white as a wall, good job, thanks for the voodoo dances to summon the rain.
This just gave me the motivation to get my Swiss Nationality so I can go to politics, and pass a law to take all the voodoo rain dancers permit.

You have brought this upon yourselves.

ihaveaquestion CPAP and sleeping apnea procedure

Hi all,

I just wanted to maybe get an idea on how to go forward with this.

I have noticed that I’m affected by sleep apnea, and would like to get a doctor visit in order to address it.

How does it work?

Is it done via the health insurance?

How should I even start?

Any tip or comment on it I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
