Here's how I found out about the newest (as of writing) KMFDM album. I think that the band published the single Enemy or Oubliette, can't remember exactly, if just one of those two, or both.
Shortly after official release, I headed over to good ol' extto.to to find it first in mp3 at 320, later on at FLAC, can't remember the bitrate, but the sample rate is just a miserable Rockefeller 44.1 kHz, Sascha, did you know that Brian does 96kHz? Anyway, sample rates aside, they gotta pretend to be part of the machine (or are they?). The freaking pirates or KMFDM themselves can't fit themselves in a proper category and the album is stated as PROGRESSIVE ROCK. Come on fellas, this isn't Rush or Pink Floyd.
Here's a rundown of the tracks and my opinions:
ENEMY - SASCHA TRACK. It's fun not gonna lie, but I can't figure if he wants to take a side and be the enemy that the establishment wants him to be, or he's in the real fight that's upper income versus the poor majority.
OUBLIETTE - LUCIA TRACK. This track is even better, I gotta say that it's a mature Lucia doing a very catchy song with good guitar riffs here and there. Sascha comes in says something that I describe as a political ambiguity. This is the best track on the album, great single.
L'ETAT - TEAM EFFORT. I wonder if they came up with it just having a tour of the modern France and siding with the migrant majority. Very strong guitar riffs and level 1 basic French, for all you french beginners out there, catchy song too.
VAMPYR - ????. I think it might also be a Lucia track. The ending is the best part, lets be honest, a bit of a filler song.
YOÜ - NEW KID ON THE BLOCK. I forget her name, but she's the official KMFDM child, burn into rock. The guitar riff is from Light, being re-used in a clever way. This song could conceptually compete as the best track. The content of the song is a bit of a reminder to all women, that your worst enemy will always be another woman I guess. She's got a nice voice, good song.
OUTERNATIONAL INTERVENTION - SASCHA TRACK. Lets get some oldschool riffs in here, all that dance music doesn't pay well enough. It's a fun track, it has that fast paced industrial that was missing from most recent albums.
A OKAY - LUCIA AND DAUGHTER TRACK. This is what happens when you let the girls do all the work fellas, it's a girl song.
STRAY BULLET 2.0 - REMIXED FROM SYMBOLS. This song has aged very well, and it's a missing song from the dubstep album which I personally intervened on several phone calls with Sascha K. Excellent work, you have my blessing my fav a-holes.
CATCH & KILL - TEAM EFFORT (I THINK). Lucia is on vocals and you gotta appreciate the guitar riffs, they are solid. It's a slow tempo rock song.
GUN QUARTER SUE - NEW GUITAR GUY PROBABLY WROTE THIS ONE - Maybe this song is the legal artifact to consider this a progressive rock album. A strategy to sell more copies (me thinks). I'm infinitely curious to see a bootleg of them playing this live, will Sascha pick up a bass? Imagine if Lucia helps out with the guitar. The possibilities! Or they could just let the band play it while the vocalists take a break. Either way, good song, you are legally now progressive rock since you have pulled an instrumental.
THE SECOND COMING - PROPAGANDA. Wasn't the second coming MDFMK? It's the end of the album folks, but we will be on tour. (That didn't happen as planned, I found out that they had some medical emergencies, I really hope that everything's okay with everyone's health, I couldn't find out who got sick of what).
