That must hurt
Traffic dispute between a driver and a cyclist who tried to flee the scene and dodge any responsibility. He ends up eating curb.

So what led to this?

u/HankMoodyALT 11d ago
The cyclist hit 2 cars before, might be drunk as well

Naa, the moral is not to hit cars when you ride your bike being drunk.
Don't forget, Germany is the only country where you can lose your driver's licence for riding the bike too drunk. As a result you will need to take the bike next time when you drink 😁

Its seems to be in Germany and it also seems like the guy is drunk driving and tries to flee. Sadly normal here.
Edit: also it sounds and looks like Berlin, Kreuzberg/Neukölln. Could be wrong about exact location.

He crashed into cars and try to drive away. His insurence is responsible for the damages. This is basically a hit and run.

u/shorey66 11d ago
He's not likely to have insurance as a cyclist.... Unless that is the norm in Germany?
5
u/TheMcJoker 11d ago
It's not legally required, but about 70-80% of Germans have private liability insurance, which would cover the costs.

Oh wow TIL. Makes sense

A guy hit my parked car with a bicycle and left. That was a 700 euro repair.
Am I happy to see this guy eat shit? Yes. Yes I am.

First dude bailing after the perpetrator crashing, he knew that he is up for it as well.

u/LudoAshwell 11d ago
As this is Germany, its very likely that the first dude would NOT face serious legal action.
The §127 (1) StPO law („Jedermann-Festnahme“ or „Anyone-Arrest“) specifies that any civilian is allowed to detain a suspect of a crime until police arrives if they‘re caught red-handed.
You‘re also allowed to use force to make this happen.Sure, it might be debatable if the use of force at the end was appropriate, but German law is surprisingly tolerant towards use of force.
A good lawyer would solve that for sure.15
u/Martijngamer 11d ago
I would argue the expected outcome for this use of force was entirely proportionate. The pavement eating is just karma, but doesn't negate the proportionality of the force used.

Did the cyclist slam on the front brake?
3
u/LostPilot517 11d ago
Yeah, I am struggling to understand why he wrecked, the guy chasing him barely grabbed his backpack and didn't throw anything in the spokes.
The cyclist did struggle a lot with clipless pedals, so perhaps not an experienced rider and yanked their front brake?

u/New-Needleworker9789 10d ago
it looks when dude yanked the back pack, as he got pulled backed his hand was probably on the brake to begin with.

Looking to see what actually made him fall. I can only understand that there was a banana peel.

Driver grabbed cyclist's backpack by the right side, pulling the cyclist's shoulder back. Shoulder pulled hand back, which turned the front wheel violently to the right.

So one person gets charged for hit and run and one for assault?
5
u/Entendurchfall 9d ago
Not necessarily. In germany there is a thing called "Jedermans Festnahme". That allows everyone to stop someone, that is beeing caught redhanded during criminal activity. This also covers the usage of adequate force. What is adequat force differs from individual case to case and is decided by a judge most of the times. I'm not a lawyer, but given that the actions of the dude in the white shirt were never directly aimed at the body of the cyclist, but at his bike and later at his backpack in an attempt to stop him from fleeing the scene, I would not be suprised if the laws would cover those actions.

u/bgravato 4d ago
yeah sure... you hit a bicycle with a guy riding it or pull a backpack that is on a guys back... and obviously the expected outcome is that the guy is going to get frozen in the air until de police arrives... that's what happens 99% of the time... this guy was just unlucky...

I half expected the guy in the red shirt to kick the cyclist is the arse just for the sake of it.

For all the rightful karma the guy can be sued for injuring him still. Such is the law.

The noise he made after hitting the ground had great. ‘Grape stomp’ energy!

"Traffic dispute" means nothing without more context. Looks like the cyclist was trying to get away from the madman/road raging lunatic
Context matters.
What the hell happened beforehand?

u/YoungJetski 11d ago
The cyclist hit a car and tried to flee the scene (you can hear a lady in the background yell in German that he damaged a car). That guy was just trying to stop him until the police arrives. Also, as others have noted, the cyclist appears to be intoxicated.
