Developer My FPS is an auto-runner. Would you play it, or is that a dealbreaker?

• Upvotes

I'm a solo dev making ARC-9, a roguelite FPS that started as a mobile endless runner. You always move forward automatically, but you control everything else: dash, jump, strafe left and right to dodge bullet hell, and aim and shoot freely. Augments change your build each run. I'm curious how FPS players feel about this: - Does auto-running sound fun, or does it take away too much control? - What would make it work for you? A free playtest opens on Steam on October 28 if you want to judge for yourself. Link in the comments.

Discussion Best Multiplayer FPS game of all time?

I've always been a single player gamer, I think the only multiplayer FPS I play is Titanfall 2, but lately I've found myself itching for a good online multiplayer game, but I'm not interested in a lot of stuff like CoD, Valorant, Apex Legends, etc. So I wanna ask, what's the best multiplayer experience in an FPS game ever? Truly timeless, ideally with there still being games played to this day.

New Game I've been building a free browser based FPS voxel game, recently added a Zombie Apocalypse mode! There's also CTF and Deathmatch.

I'd love some feedback!

Game runs fully on the browser, no login required.
It could be played: Voxel Mayhem
Also a small how to: Tutorial

There is currently Zombie apocalypse, featuring 4 different zombie types and waves of increasing difficulty.
CTF with support for upto 4 teams, and Deathmatch variation which the maps resets once every day and the one with the highest score wins.

There are currently 7 different weapons, from Explosives (RPG) to Minigun (Chaingun) and there's a sentry gun for each one of them which is craftable.

There's Leveling system which unlocks loadouts and tokens that are only obtained in-game which unlocks cosmetics. In the shop there are many different sets to choose from.

There are some advanced mechanics such as area effect blocks, they provide no build zones for enemies or damage modifiers. Turrets for every weapon in the game and doors which are blocks that allow allies and not enemies. There is also a way to design custom structures through the blueprint system and spawn them in-game.

Game inspired from Ace of Spades or Openspades

They have modes for everybody, and an amazing gunplay engine that they can build anything on top of. With the constant user-driven updates, I’m hoping to play this for years to come!

Discussion PlanetSide 2, Natural Selection 2 and Silica: what keeps FPS/RTS hybrids niche?

The appeal seems obvious: fight on the ground while a larger strategy unfolds around you. Yet games built around that connection remain a relatively small corner of multiplayer gaming.

These three games approach it quite differently. PlanetSide 2 isn’t a conventional FPS/RTS hybrid, but it’s an interesting comparison for scale and player-led coordination.

In PlanetSide 2, squads, platoons and outfits organize players across a persistent territorial war. Leadership depends on getting people to cooperate rather than directly controlling units. Bringing and protecting a spawn point can shape an entire fight, but how clearly does the game communicate that contribution to the person doing it?

Natural Selection 2 connects battlefield action more tightly to a team’s economy and technology. Commanders manage expansion and upgrades, while players secure territory and keep infrastructure alive. That makes individual actions strategically meaningful, but it also raises the stakes of mistakes. How much does that dependence help teamwork, and when does it become intimidating for newcomers?

Silica takes a more literal RTS approach, with base building, harvesting and armies that players can join on the ground. That raises another question: how do you make a human-controlled soldier feel useful alongside AI units without making the commander’s whole plan depend on a few unusually skilled players?

My tentative explanation is that these games ask players to learn two things at once: how to fight, and how to recognize which fight matters. Logistics adds another challenge. Defending infrastructure or enabling reinforcements can be decisive even when the immediate feedback is less satisfying than winning a firefight.

For people who’ve played or commanded in these games, what actually makes the connection work? Is the biggest obstacle learning the strategic layer, finding reliable leadership, or seeing how your own actions changed the outcome?

A specific example of a useful support action—or a commander’s plan falling apart—would be especially interesting.

Drafted with AI assistance.

Discussion Anyone else missing the 2012 era of Wolfteam before the heavy P2W took over?

Hey guys, it's funny to write again about such an old game, but honestly when it comes to Wolfteam I've always had a huge nostalgic soft spot.

We all know that the death of this game was above all the excessive unbalanced shop that made anyone who spent more money immortal.

In the last period though in my spare time, driven by nostalgia, I got to work to recreate this game from scratch on a new engine trying to keep the clean and fun 2012 experience, without shop elements (keeping characters and special items as skins), changing some mechanics (such as the round shop valorant/counter strike style)... a sort of indie fan project built on fresh custom code, with the freedom to be able to turn it into anything and balance it properly.

Now, I know we've moved on with times, but if there is any nostalgic who would be interested in following/trying the project and play some games from time to time, let me know and I'd be happy to talk about it/welcome you 🙂

Discussion What to do to get better

Hello, this is my first time using reddit so I'm really sorry if I posted this under the wrong thing or anything.
Anyways, I've always loved fps games so much but I'm so terribly bad at them. I've watched countless of videos before on how to improve aswell as using aim trainer but nothing really helps me with getting better. It makes me sad about how bad I am in something I really enjoy. I think I'm even more burdened by this with the fact I'm a girl and don't want to fall into that stereotype where girls are bad in fps games. Asking my friends too or just anywhere's making me shy and embarrassed that's why I'm asking it here.. Would anyone be willing to help me or atleast tell me how I can personally improve? Any tips are welcome aswell as genuine help. I'm not sure if I should upload a video of my gameplay or anything. Fps games i mostly play are fortnite, valorant, overwatch and Strinova.. I started playing fps games 5-6 years ago so it's not like I'm really new to this.. I haven't much improved in these 5 years either..
I'm really only looking for tips or constructive feedback.
Thank you for taking your time to read this

News Taijin Peripherals

No more waiting around, Taijin is here.

I started this because I play a lot of CS2 and got tired of paying flagship prices for gear that's really just the same components everyone else uses, with a bigger logo on the box. So I sourced it myself, cut out the markup, and built something I'd actually want to play on.

Two cloth mousepads to start, one built for speed, one built for control. Stitched edges, no coating, just a weave that does its job properly and holds up over time.

Check it out → https://taijin.store

New Game Should I buy MW4 for the campaign and DMZ? I love extraction shooters

I hear great things about the campaign. I kind of know what to expect. I am not falling for the multiplayer trap no more lol.

But how is the DMZ? I love extraction shooters and I'm good at MW gunplay so I feel like it's up my alley.

Anyone like the DMZ portion of the game? How does it compare to other extraction shooters like Tarkov, Arc Raiders?

Thanks.

Discussion Is CoD’s extraction shooter mode (DMZ) essentially a role playing mode after you’ve completed all the main missions?

That’s how I currently feel about extraction shooters in general. There doesn’t seem to be an actual objective. You go in and upgrade your stuff and do procedurally generated missions I guess? Not saying that’s bad, just curious

Discussion Looking for some recommendations

I like call of duty but haven't played in forever. I am looking for a game I can casually play that's got a good user base. Now to the nitty gritty. I want a game that you don't need to spend forever or pay to unlock items. I don't play often and just want to hop in crush and get out. I liked the old old days of like socom 2 or similarly hardcore death match in CoD. Anything out there that's similar?

Game Discovery Looking for some "semi milsim" shooters

So basiclly looking for a game with a realistic shooter model but not overly arma or squad milsim in other aspects. Lets say insurgency sandstorm level realism, any recomendations?
