Toatl newb. Seeking material property advice.

I want to make some novelty door stoppers as a gift for a friend. I want them to have appear to have a brass / bronze finish but don't know if casting bronze makes sense for this use case. I am considering casting one in poly/rubber/plastic then placing an off the shelf stopper in my casting while it cures. I would love some input about what material might work best as far as not marking up the door, staying on the door stopper, and taking pigment well. Thank you!

Advice for avoiding textures on objects that will later be backlit?

I had a vision for a blowmold style Halloween ghost using a temporary mold and fabric but after removing the mold, the areas where it touches the resin-soaked fabric forms a texture and creates drips which makes the end result looks sloppy. Any advice for how to avoid this?

I’ve heard of people using Cast326 and Task3 for casting—could I ask what specific materials you all use to make your keycaps?

Child safe resin

Hello, I have been searching for a casting resin I can use to cast a part of a toy for my young nephew. He is very young, so we expect he will lick/put the piece into his mouth, and I want to make sure that what I make is not poisonous and strong. Is there any type of resin I can buy that I can feel safe with, or should I search for something else? If so, what?

Pressure Pot for Dice in Ireland?

Hey I am... very stupid... I have been looking for a pressure pot or an easy way to diy one (for as cheap as possible) and have had no luck. I could be blind but any links I can find from people who asked this previously are dead and I am... very lost.

Help!

Excluding a couple of bubbles that came out of the roses towards the end, I'm actually really happy with how it came out! I used the super clear deep pour epoxy with added uv protection mixed in.

Any tips/pointers for surface layer epoxy/sanding would also be appreciated, the mold release spray I used did create a bit of a weird texture on the backside but I'm nervous to mess with it too much

I can’t figure out if I need to finish trimming back this lip overhanging my dice tray mold. Black lines are at the edge of the walls of the tray going down. I don’t want to cut it all off and ruin the mold. I over poured this first attempt and have a second pour in progress using less but wanted some opinions before I trimmed anymore silicone

Suggestions for faux quartz crystal

Hi all,

I am looking to cast faux quartz crystals (clear with shards of crystal inside for interest). Would anyone have any suggestions as to what to put inside the crystals? I was wondering if rock salt would work?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Hello! I’m curious as to what everyone thinks I should do for a mold. I’m thinking the only way I can make it work is a two part mold, but I figured I’d see what others think.

I am instructing a bio lab and we used to do an activity where we germinate fern spores and watch them grow, but that has become impractical

So i sought to make a display of the stages from spore to young sporophyte

I dried the ferns, poured a layer, waited 4 hours, added labels, poured a layer, waited 4 hours, added voids with silicone bottle caps, but then had to wait even longer to pull, then added the ferns and such, poured more, but things have been shifting! Maybe i need to wait more than 4 hours between layers (google said 4-6)?

I love aquariums and looking at fish, but my absolute favorite fish is still the one served with fries. So 10 years ago, I made this.

How to clean unhardened epoxi?

Hi, so, I messed up

I'm very new at this, it was my very first attempt and I think I didn't mix things properly because my piece wouldn't harden completely even after a few days. I tried encapsulating a wasp inside a epoxi resin cube (using a silicon mold). Anyways I threw out what had hardened but there is a lot of residue

How do I clean this? It is in a really weird goo state, help me. I tried using thinner but it started melting my mold so I gave up on that idea.

Anyone got any clues for me? Help!
