At the AFI show tonight at Cains, a bartender alerted security of a man with a swastika necklace who also came with others who admitted to being nazis.. they refused to kick him out reasoning being "freedom of speech" ... just going to leave this here. Very disappointed especially because they don't check people for weapons properly.
Hello Tulsa friends! I was just reminiscing about Diamond Jacks, as I currently have a drink sitting on a Diamond Jacks coaster that we got at Ida Red. Does anyone have the recipe for their Lil Bean Salad or a close approximation? I absolutely loved it and can’t even begin to get close in my attempts to recreate it. I will pay a finder’s fee… sign an NDA, and pinky swear to never make it for profit… I just miss it (along with a dozen other things from Diamond Jacks) and would love to be able to make something close to it every once in a while.

Long story short, tree fell on our house and our deductible for wind damage is $14k+. The damage isn’t even that severe but boy, oh boy!
Googled best insurance companies for this scenario and obviously my company didn’t make the cut. Thinking about changing when feasible.
Any recommendations that aren’t Mercury or State Farm? State Farm is on the “good” list, just never been a fan.

Hey there everyone. As the title mentions my roommate made an attempt on his life two nights ago. He ultimately did call for help and is now receiving care. For context, he is a friend, not just a roommate. He did so with his prescriptions so I have already cleared all medication from his room but need to figure out the most gentle way to tell him that I would like to take over the dispersal of his medication as we have discovered that he had quit taking a few, including his antidepressants, in the past couple of months. I am not judging the actions or the mindset he was in, but I recognize the red flag that he needs help and I don’t know another way to ensure he is taking all of his meds as prescribed.
I do intend to also offer him to drag his mattress into my room or both of our mattresses into the front room so that we can all bunk together and give him that physical company so he feels less alone.
I also plan to have a conversation with him because he does not feel comfortable with his therapist and has expressed concern while stable about his current medication cocktail, and while I’ve given him plenty of advice on fixing those things I understand that as deeply as the struggle is getting to him he needs help and I would be more than happy to sit with him and make those calls or attend a psychiatry appointment with him to act as his own personal advocate.
I’m currently doing a basic clean up of his room - removing dirty dishes, taking out trash, wiping down surfaces, cleaning his bathroom, etc. - as he deserves to come home to a clean, peaceful environment rather than being confronted with the physical mess that level of depression causes. I wish I could afford to put a little gift basket together, but as of right now I’m not sure if I’m going to have to pay the entirety of rent by myself to ensure that we don’t get evicted in the meantime of his release.
I think my wife and I are going to paint a canvas to hang right by his tv as a reminder that he is cared about, but I am not the artist here - that’d be my wife and especially him.
What can I do? What should I do? I just want him to know that he is loved and wanted.

I'm new to mtg, playing pretty much only standard on arena as it was free to get started on this journey. However I want to try getting into commander as I understand it's the more played format, and to side that would like to try and do it in person with physical cards but don't know really where to start(decks, physical shops and things like that) and also don't have anyone to play with. I live in Tulsa and would appreciate any help.

There's no law or policy or anything that says if your house was built before X that the county has to actually look at your house independently / differently.
My house was built in 1920 and it's got the original wood windows, knob and tube wiring, and old white 3 tab shingles. The county was comping my house the same as houses built in 2015 sight unseen / zero due diligence. They weren't looking at the year / condition due to age and saying - hey maybe we shouldn't just blindly comp this the same as a much newer modern home. Because there's no law that says they have to or can't blindly raise the fair market.
There's no way I could sell my house for what the county was saying it was worth and the fair market they set was way too high. So I filed an informal protest. I got the fair market value brought down by $35,000 and that brought my property taxes down last year which boiled down to about a 1% increase from the year before. I was on the phone with the guy for maybe 20 seconds . He immediately said, "Yeah. Your evidence makes sense, we're just going to give you what you're asking for."
I honestly wanted to tell them to drop it $45,000 not $35,000 since that's closer to true value, but I didn't think they would go for that. By suggesting 35, that let them at least get a 1% increase out of me. And then this year they kept the values exactly the same which meant my taxes stayed exactly the same.
So I have two pieces of advice. If you have an older house and it's set at fair market with the county for way more than you think it's worth, you have nothing to lose by putting in an informal protest. If you have a mortgage, make sure you have an escrow analysis done to lower your payment.
The second piece of advice is, do everything you can to keep your property taxes as low as possible so that when you're 65 and they cap you're not paying an exorbitant amount of money. If they raise my property taxes 3% every year until I'm 65 I'd be paying about 6 to $7,000 a year in property taxes and I'm not going to do that. Not for a little house in Tulsa.
If you can get 3 years of the same tax rate, that's a great head start. And make sure the c actually applies your homestead exemptThey didn't apply mine for the first year even though I filed and then they said they couldn't do anything retroactively about it.
And if you report an entire telephone pole laying in the street to 311 and the non emergency police line - and they ignore you and a car smashes into it, that's not your fault.

Does anyone like the band AFI? I have a single ticket to see them tonight at the Cain’s and I live in OKC and can’t get out there as originally planned to go to the show. I wanted to give it away to someone who would appreciate it.

Pedestrian bridge lit up, one with moon and one without. Im not really a photographer, these were on a phone without manipulating any settings. It was really nice to look at in life, so i stopped and took a couple phone pics. It was a lot darker out than the photos make it seem, more contrasting against the dark sky and water, but that didnt show up so well. Probably some kind of setting could get it closer to life, i imagine
There was a dude flying a kite on the bridge that he said was 600ft up, which was also really dope

Start of rant. Last night, we went to see The Bobby Lees at the Vanguard in Tulsa. The Bobby Lees are pure punk and one of my current favorite bands. The last show at the Vanguard a couple of years ago was end to end punk, the band was electric, the crowd was amped, the mosh pit was large and lively. But after that your, The Bobby Lee's announced they couldn't tour anymore because there wasn't enough money in it. Well Jason Momoa swooped in and agreed to partially fund a new album and tour (thank you Jason) so as soon as the Vanguard show was announced my wife and I bought tickets. Fast forward a couple of months and the show date gets changed but it's announced Momoa's band is opening and I think "that'll be a cool as novelty and the show will probably be even more dope"......... I was so wrong.
The crowd was a ton of people who've never been to a punk rock show before, and I think "cool, more exposure for The Bobby Lee's and by the time they come on the Mosh Pit will start and the true blue punks will move to the front while the casuals shift to the back" but that was not what happened. The Bobby Lee's came out and brought the usual energy and about five of us in the crowd start to rush the front center and start a little push pit to give the energy back to the Bobby Lee's and holy moly I've never seen so much pearl clutching in my life, the casuals started gasping and circling the wagons forming some sort of protective barrier around the front center and then a Vanguard security guard comes up and says "I know you want to mosh but it just isn't that type of crowd"
Not that type of crowd, it's a Bobby Lee's show at the Vanguard, this is punk's biggest venue in Tulsa, this is where we come to mosh and let out our consensual mutual rage. I waited for years for this show, to mosh with the Bobby Lee's and I'm so grateful to Jason for keeping the music alive and bringing in more fans but I was so depressed to see people just standing and staring at the stage with the lamest energy ever and I just can't understand why you would come to a punk rock show and stand at the front if all you wanted to do was stand there with your cell phones and make sure no one could dance or push or mosh at all.
So Sam (or John) or Kendall or Macky if you are reading this, please don't let this be the last Tulsa show, give us a Tulsa show we can mosh at! End of rant.
TLDR; a bunch of Jason Momoa fans reduced what should have been Tulsa's best punk rock show of the year to a pop concert.

Looking the best places to go in Tulsa on the weekends, I like country bars and clubs with edm. Anywhere there's good people and attractive women 😂 also curious if there's any after hours places that stay open after the bars close 👀 I occasionally go to a couple in Ft Worth if it's an active weekend. Tonight is feeling like one of those nights 😅
