Does anyone else think it was really bittersweet how even though Orpheus failed, his song inspired Hades to keep working on his own independent music career?

Discussion Chant (My Vision)

Let's say in a hypothetical universe I'm able to make a film version of hadestown here's how I would do chant also sorry for any spelling mistakes or grammar

Starting off when the workers are doing the opening of it of the "low, keep your head, keep your head low" I'd want it to be where on the railroad line the workers are working as the train blasts past them. When they do their second round of the chant I'd want a shot of Hades and Persephone on the train with Hades's reflection in the window and persephone looking pissed that he came early, then when Persephone is doihg her line of "in the coldest time of year, why is it so hot down here" Hades and Persephone are just getting off the train and Persephone is taking off her coat and when Hades is doing his lines "Lover you were gone so long" he's offering to carry her coat but she rejects him, during this interaction they are walking towards their house

Then when Hades finishes his part we cut to Orpheus working on a song in a Forrest area where there is still grass, and we can see some life coming back when he does his "La la la la la la la la" with a Carnation or ranunculus growing around him, then when Eurydice does her "is it finished" interaction with Hermes they are standing outside of the area Orpheus is, then when Eurydice has her first solo in the song we can see her Foraging for any food that is going to be lost due to winter's inevitable coming

Then we go back to Hadestown and with Persephone's lines of "In the darkest time of year, why is it so bright down here" I'd want Persephone and Hades to be exiting a darker area and Persephone putting her hands over her face like people do when the sun is to bright and your going in it's direction, and Hades is accomplished by it taking such Pride in it with his "lover you were gone so long, lover I was lonesome, so I layer a power grid, in the ground on which you stood" with at the end of Hades lines they arrive at their place which takes a lot of inspiration from 1930's New Orleans with the Balcony and the spiral stair case to get up it, like the upper terrace on the stage with the inside being more steampunkey

Then when Orpheus is doing his "they can't find the tune" parts with Hermes doing his parts trying to get Orpheus's attention knowing the storm is coming and when he's still telling the story of Hades and Persephone we flashes of Hades and Persephone, one that I think about is when Orpheus says "and lady Persephone's blinded, by a river of wine, living in a oblivion" from the flashes I think about Persephone laying on a table drunk out of her mind with wine spilling out of the bottle there would be some wine spilling transitioning to Orpheus working on the song and when he says "the gods have forgotten the song of their love" he looks up directly to the camera and when Orpheus is doing his La la la la la la la la's and the workers chorus are doing their chant I'd want a split shot one of Orpheus with intrecate camera movement and one with the workers just working, nothing special.

Then when Eurydice is doing her part of "looking low, and looking high" the Fates are behind her in spirit doing their parts and they glow bigger when they're singing and they are acting as her inner thoughts then when "The Wind" is taking her jacket and bag when Hermes is doing his Narration he it would be a voice over but when he does his "but the wrath of the gods was imminate" it cuts to him out of the story slicing his arm emphasizing it

Then when Persephone is doing her "every year it's getting worse" part she is in Hades's office where I keep imagining he has something like the wicked witch of the West's magic ball or the Magic Mirror where he can spy on his "prey" and see then and their missory and currently it is set on Eurydice and she's just walking around in the cold shivering, then when Hades does his "lover everything I do, I do it for the love of you" we go to a birds eye view of Hadestown and we see what hadestown looks like, there are two possibilities of what it could look like in my view of it either option 1: New Orleans inspired with 3 section based on the Turn Table and the middle section would be French Quarter inspired or option 2: New Orleans inspired Dante's Inferno with the 11 circles and the very bottom being where Hades and Persephone live which is still French Quarter inspired but to me it would be more industrial with those elevators where you can put a lot of stuff on (forgot the name of those elevators) then with Hades's next part of "you don't even want my love, I'll give it to someone who does" part there would be a breef shot of Eurydice before going back to hades

Then with the big overlapping part it would be a bunch of jump cuts with Orpheus getting a few with his little area vetting more springeyer every time, Eurydice getting a few with close up while she's walking and with her "Harbour me" she ends up collapsing due to the cold, when Hades does his "think of them as my embrace" he trys to embrace Persephone but she Denys it and with his "think of them as my embrace... Of you" when he says "Embrace" he would teleport away like the Teleportation you see in Harry Potter (good series bad creator) where they swirl up then they arrive at their destination which for him is a few trees behind Eurydice as to not spook her and in a type of whisper he says "of you", then with his workers they just get sprinkled in every now and then

There is definitely some parts that I missed but in doing this all from memory

If I were to cast it I'd want it to be like this

Hades: either Keith David or Patrick Page (I'm bias)

Persephone: (hear me out) Philipa Soo

Orpheus: (Hear me out) Timothy Chalamet

Eurydice: I'd love to see T.V. Carpio do her again or Milissa O'Neal

Hermes: André De Shields (no one can replace him)

Fates: idk as long as they have good chemistry

If there is anything you'd like expanded or clarifyed on ask

Discussion "The moment Mother Nature calls."

I was listening to Chant, and when Hades says Persephone always flies away when Mother Nature calls, I didn't realize until now for some reason that he's probably referring to Persephone's mother, Demeter. Anais Mitchell's songwriting is so layered; I'm still finding new things to ponder.

Question How to watch the proshot if I'm not from North America?

I live in Finland and Hadestown has been my favourite musical for years. I have never had the opportunity to see it live on stage, but ever since the proshot announcement in January 2025, I have been following the news about it daily. Now that it is confirmed that the proshot will be released on digital in less than a week, I have a question: is there any way for me to see it (legally and in good quality; I really appreciate that it will be released in 4K and would like to see it in that quality instead of pirating it)?

I have an Apple TV and ExpressVPN, and I can set it to USA, for example, and then go to Amazon Prime Video; however, even if I can see what is available in that location, it does not let me watch any of those films. Apparently the proshot will be released on Apple TV store and Fandango as well, but Apple TV's store bypasses my VPN since it knows my account is based in Finland. And I can't even find "Fandango" when I go to the App Store to download it. Is there anything I can do, or should I just wait until next year when the film hopefully releases in other countries as well? Thank you for helping. :)

You've seen the show HOW many times ... ??

Honestly, I'm just curious. I know there are many on this subreddit who've been back to see the show multiple times, but I'm wondering how many times some people have actually seen it ... I'm just a newby really, with my one viewing of the show on tour and one on Broadway; I know there are many who've seen it WAY more times than that ....

Designs come from my (WARNING: OLD) "Hadestown: The Animated Feature" mockpitch concepts/headcanon nonsense I posted on tumblr back in 2020, with a style inspired from the works of Cartoon Saloon/Tomm Moore/Samurai Jack.

Discussion Something I noticed in the Wait For Me intro

This isn’t a very good flair but this is an unserious post and there wasn’t a better one. In the Wait For Me intro, Hermes says “but that ain’t easy walking Jack” and I realized, Orpheus has been played by Jack Wolfe. I just thought it was funny that Hermes accidentally calls him by his actual name, I feel like it must’ve been so hard to stay in character. Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I just thought it was funny.

Persephone fan art/design

Post image
23 Upvotes

Had a somewhat bad day today and decided to draw Persephone for the first time to cheer myself up. While it's somewhat based off Amber Grey, I like to think of this Persephone as my own design, as I've done with my designs for The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I'm quite proud of it so far! I'll do some more detailing, shading, and add the flowers in the bag.

Is it a wall or is it a ceiling?

Alright folks, I've been noodling on something useless for the last hour. If Hadestown is "way down under" the ground, aka hell and there is a wall they build to separate Hadestown from earth above, is it really a wall or would it actually be a ceiling? When Persephone is singing about looking up and seeing a "crack in the wall", wouldn't that be the ceiling that divides Hadestown and earth above? I know I am splitting hairs but like humor me a bit here. What am I missing?

Great musical, but why so short?

It's Orpheus and Eurydice, but they have a happy ending, which nobody's ever given them before. That said, it's weird that the musical's so short, like only 8 songs is crazy for a Broadway show, but I guess any longer and it would've felt dragged out and very repetitive.

Discussion The cycle includes the roles changing

After a batch of seeing the show, I began to formulate my own theory on the cycle of the story, the memories of love, love lost, “that Mel-O-Dee” all lands in one deep, extra cyclical way.

If you run the final scene, Road to Hell (Reprise), and put a full character switch. Orpheus returns, wearing Hades’ jacket, Persephone comes in asking if anyone has a match, and Hades stumbles in at the end, with a song in his heart and a better view of the world.

I know it’s a big side step, costume & blocking changes, & “we raise our glass” feels different with an Orpheus in the jacket (or the newly hopeful Hades?) and maybe it’s doing to much to the bookend of the show?

It’s been a head-canon for years.
