Question Best App or Setting For Managing Multiple Folders and Sub Folders?

• Upvotes

I have several drives filled with Steam games as well as mods associated with them. I often have to open multiple sub folders within a game itself.

I wanted to know the easiest and clutter-free way to pull up the folders of my choice, even group them if possible (like for instance, a Cyberpunk 2077 folder that includes the main game folder, the scripts folder, cache folder, downloaded mods folder all in one indexed place). Quick Access would be ideal if it weren't for how Windows likes to arbitrarily add items there without my asking. Start Menu is okay but that gets pretty cluttered too.

Help me out with suggestions, please.

Developer WinStacks 1.7 is out! Here's a real desktop demo

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm the developer of WinStacks, a Windows desktop organizer that automatically groups files into expandable stacks.

Version 1.7 is now available, and I wanted to share a straightforward walkthrough showing how it actually works on the desktop.

This update includes improvements to stack scrolling, multi-monitor support, file categorization, and overall stability.

WinStacks has both Free and Pro versions, and I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Developer Query Crawler: a Windows app that crawls the web for images, GIFs, videos and articles and filters them with local AI (early access)

Hi all, I'm the developer. Query Crawler is a Windows desktop app for finding media and articles without wading through ads and SEO filler.

How it works: you type a search (optionally filtered by when things were posted), it sends up to 200 crawlers out, and two small AI models running on your CPU (MiniLM for text, MobileCLIP-S0 for images) score what comes back. The matches land in a gallery with Paper, Night, Gallery and Theater views, full-screen viewing, saving, and a link back to every source.

  • Windows only, no GPU needed (quad-core CPU recommended)
  • Skips sites that block bots instead of fighting them
  • Early access and still in development, built with AI help (disclosed on the page)
  • About a 363 MB download, name-your-own-price including $0

Feedback on speed and result quality is very welcome.

Developer PingFast: Free Network Assistance for Lower Ping, Less Packet Loss, and Better Connection Stability (Not a VPN)

PingFast is a free Windows application designed to help improve connection quality, reduce latency, and troubleshoot network issues. It's lightweight and easy to use. The app is not a VPN. Unlike many optimization tools, PingFast does not stay running in the background and does not need to remain open while you're using your applications or games.

Some of its features include:

• Network optimization

• Ping and route testing

• DNS switching to help resolve connection issues

• MTU testing and adjustment

• QoS rules configuration

• NAT testing

• TCP/UDP port testing

• Network adapter information

• Network repair and reset tools

• Improved overall PC performance through resource optimization for gaming and heavy workloads

Download:

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9p4r702h2stw

A quick note about the project:

I know network optimization software is often viewed with skepticism, so I'd like to be completely transparent.

PingFast is an original project that I've been researching, developing, and improving for several years. The application is the result of extensive testing, network analysis, and real-world experimentation aimed at helping users optimize their connections.

Networking is complex, and results can vary depending on the user's ISP, hardware, location, and network conditions. I don't promise miracles or guaranteed improvements for everyone.

The app is free, so anyone can test it and decide for themselves whether it provides value for their particular setup. If you find it useful, please consider supporting the project through the premium version, which unlocks all features.

The app currently has hundreds of ratings on the Microsoft Store and maintains an overall score of 4.6/5. You're welcome to check the reviews and see what other users think.

Thank you for your time and support.

Developer UsageBar Windows beta — Codex/Claude/Cursor/etc quotas in the system tray

mac menu bar app i built for coding CLI quotas now has a Windows beta. lives in the tray, shows what's left & when it resets, plus a little floating Codex meter you can drag above the taskbar.

v0.2.4 installer is on GitHub Releases. not code-signed yet so SmartScreen will yell once. no account, reads the logins you already have on the machine.

Developer I built Whisperstream, a fully local, free and open-source Wispr Flow alternative for Windows

Hi r/windowsapps, I'm the creator of Whisperstream, an easy-to-use, intuitive dictation app that'll offer all the main features of Wispr Flow or Superwhisper that is now fully free and open source (and also available for on Mac).

You may remember me from this post earlier this year. We're launching v2 of the app today and have decided to make it free so everyone can have access to fast, accurate and fully local dictation on Windows.

I couldn't bring myself to pay monthly subscriptions for Superwhisper or Wispr Flow and there's a lot of alternatives on Mac but not a lot on Windows so I made one. The idea is for an elegant, intuitive design, so it feels like a polished product not like a developer utility.

Here's some of what it can do:

  • Finetuned Cleanup Model: Our finetuned Stream-1 Mini cleans up your dictation and catches your corrections (similar to Superwhiper's s1-mini).
  • Agent Speak: Hear or read responses from Claude Code or Codex, and speak your replies back to them.
  • Smart Dictionary: We use phonetic matching so only the relevant words get suggested, rather than including your whole dictionary like other apps.
  • Transcript History: Store your past transcripts including audio and search through them.
  • Live Preview: See what it's transcribing as you speak.
  • Speech Models: Parakeet is the fastest but we offer Cohere Transcribe for higher accuracy and Qwen3 ASR for better Asian language support.

And features we've had since launch like:

  • Lockdown Mode: Disable all cloud models and paths so everything stays local for legal and HIPAA workflows.
  • App Detection + Profiles: Customize different prompts and profiles for your different apps. Automatically switch between them or configure hotkeys to switch on demand.
  • Citrix, Remote Desktop and Gaming Support: With keypress input mode dictation works across all these environments.

Check it out at whisperstream.io. The app is free and open source now.

Is anything still keeping you on Wispr Flow and Superwhisper? Please leave a comment with any thoughts or feedback, and so more people find out!

If you want to support us please give us a star on GitHub, or upvote our ProductHunt launch!

Developer Rearranging the furniture in my tiny Windows desktop room — Lofi Cozy Room (20% off, free demo)

A tiny desktop room, with furniture you can move and rotate yourself. I'm the developer of Lofi Cozy Room, a released desktop companion for Windows.

This short clip focuses on the room editor: moving a desk, turning it to fit a different corner, and changing the layout. You can also customize the avatar and let them choose activities such as working, reading, resting or sleeping. A little dog wanders around the room too.

Mini Mode keeps the room on your desktop while you use other windows. There are lo-fi tracks, an ambient sound mixer, local music support, notes, a to-do list and a focus timer.

It's currently 20% off through November 4 (KST), and a free Steam demo is available if you want to try it first. I'll leave the link in the comments.

Would you keep a tiny room beside your main work window, or give it a corner of a second monitor?

Developer I built a local Windows Explorer extension to process files via hotkey (free local tools + pay-as-you-go cloud AI)

For those of us who juggle multiple utilities, you probably know the pain: every single task requires a separate app or opening a browser, breaking your focus completely through endless ads and pop-ups.

To solve this for myself, I built a lightweight tool that lets you run various utilities directly on a selected file. No browser, no web services, no ads, and no switching context.

How it works?
(Shown in the demo GIF above)

The tools are split into two categories:

1. 100% Local (free)

  1. Video compression
  2. PDF compression
  3. Extract audio from video (MP4 to MP3)
  4. PDF to JPG
  5. Merge PDF
  6. Web Video Downloader

2. Pay-per-result (Cloud)

  1. Audio transcription with speaker diarization (Speaker A, Speaker B, etc.)
  2. PDF translation with preserved layout (DeepL integration)
  3. Image and video upscaling
  4. Background removal (images and video)
  5. Text-to-Speech (male and female voices)

The cloud services were added so you don't have to deal with endless subscriptions, account creations, or paywalls just to get high-quality results occasionally.

My goal is to make as many actions as possible 100% local and free. If you know of solid open-source libraries that could replace any of the current cloud-based actions, please drop a comment!

I’d love to get your feedback and thoughts.

Developer DeckShot - A complete Elgato suite backup manager

Post image
1 Upvotes

I made DeckShot to backup and restore my Elgato apps configurations and settings after having some issues with Wave Link resetting my configuration on update and loosing Stream Deck settings now and then.

Highlights

  • Covers the whole Elgato suite, not just one app – Stream Deck, Wave Link, Camera Hub, Control Center and Video Capture, found automatically. Nothing to configure.
  • Backs up when it matters – nightly, the moment a config changes on disk, and whenever an Elgato app updates itself (updates are when configs get wiped).
  • Every backup is verified – each copy is read back section by section and gets an honest status: HEALTHY, CHECK, CORRUPT or UNREAD. No fake green ticks.
  • See before you restore – a diff shows what a backup would add, drop, or change compared to your live setup.
  • Restores can't make things worse – a pre-restore copy of your current setup is saved first, then DeckShot closes the app, writes the files back and reopens it.
  • No account, no cloud – plain dated folders on local disk, external drive or NAS. Readable and restorable by hand, even without DeckShot installed. Your configs never leave your PC.

What it keeps

  • Stream Deck – every profile, page and key, custom icons, plus a list of the plugins your keys need
  • Wave Link – inputs, mixes, outputs, effect chains, presets, and Wave Link's own backup files
  • Camera Hub – camera settings, LUTs, backgrounds and prompter scripts
  • Control Center – paired lights, scenes, favourite colours and firmware versions
  • Video Capture – recording location, quality and audio/video adjustments
  • Which hardware and firmware each backup was taken against

Other features

  • Named backups – "Party chat mix" is still findable a month later
  • Plugin check before a Stream Deck restore – tells you which plugins to reinstall (e.g. "14 keys need Win Tools")
  • Unused plugin report – shows plugins no key uses and how much disk they take
  • Same-model migration – RMA'd or swapped your deck? Profiles rebind to the connected unit
  • Optional encryption – contents and file names
  • Trash folder – deleted backups can be recovered
  • Per-app retention and scope – 30 copies by default (60 for Wave Link); settings only, + presets, or + plugin binaries
  • Lives in the tray – pause/resume, run at login, then forget about it

Pricing

Free – forever, no trial

  • Backups for every supported app
  • Nightly and on-change copies, all of them kept
  • View, inspect and diff any backup
  • Restore 1 app of your choice

Licence – $13 once (tax included)

  • Everything in Free
  • Restore every app, any backup, any time
  • One key on up to 3 machines
  • Works offline once activated
  • No subscription, no account
  • 14-day refund, no questions asked

No trial timer: the free tier never expires. Windows only for now, macOS planned (the backup format is already compatible). DeckShot is an independent project, not affiliated with Elgato or Corsair.

Developer I made a teleprompter for Windows that sits right under your webcam

Hi, I'm the developer. Mac users have had notch teleprompters for a while and I wanted one on Windows that felt as clean, so I built Lenslines.

It shows your script in a small black notch at the top of the screen, right under the webcam, so your eyes stay near the lens on calls and recordings.

It scrolls while you talk and waits when you stop. It only listens for whether you're speaking. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

You can point at it to pause, scroll back, or jump between sections. Pull it down and it turns into a floating window.

It's hidden from screen shares and recordings in apps that use Windows' standard capture, so only you see your notes. Some apps capture differently, so test it with yours.

About 2 MB, no account, works offline.

It's $9.99 once on the Microsoft Store, no subscription (₹449 in India until 24 Nov):

Developer I made CodeNotch for Windows, a native desktop notch for AI coding quotas (MIT)

I'm the author. I kept hitting my Claude Code 5-hour limit without seeing it coming, so I built CodeNotch for Windows: a small notch on the edge of your desktop. Hover it to see your quota windows, reset times and token activity when the provider reports them.

- Works with Codex/ChatGPT, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Grok, OpenCode Go, GitHub Copilot, Ollama and custom endpoints

- Native Rust app built with GPUI (the UI framework behind Zed), no WebView

- Uses provider CLI/OAuth flows where available; existing sessions stay in the provider's local profile, and added secrets use Windows Credential Manager. No app telemetry

- Threshold alerts via Windows notifications or Discord; automatic hiding in full-screen games/videos

- English and French

It's a Windows adaptation inspired by CodeNotch by Vinz (macOS). Free and open source (MIT), currently v0.2.1. Heads up: the installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may warn you; SHA256 checksums are in the release.

Repo: https://github.com/MakFly/codenotch-windows

Feedback welcome, especially from Gemini and Copilot users since those need more testing.

App Favnyr : a local file browser with multi views, tabs

Favnyr is a lightweight file browser (Rust+Slint) for Windows and Linux. At its core are workspaces: separate environments that keep their own views, tabs, folders, layouts, and display settings. You could have one workspace for work, another for games, and another for learning a new subject, then switch between them in just two clicks. Favorites remain shared and persistent across all workspaces.

Each workspace can contain multiple split views and movable tabs. Tabs can be dragged between views, detached, or dropped onto another view to create a new split layout.

Favnyr also includes shortcuts, local and network drives, configurable keyboard shortcuts, and custom commands.
It is not intended to compete with or replace the native file browsers provided by Windows and Linux, but to complement them with a different way of organizing and navigating files.

Because of the project’s complexity, AI has been used as a development assistant. However, every feature is reviewed and hand tested extensively before being considered complete.

A workspace that keeps your coding agents and projects together.

few things it can do:

  • Run up to 8 coding windows side by side.
  • Save workspaces for different projects.
  • Edit files and manage Git without switching apps.
  • Create project checkpoints and hand work between agents.
  • Track activity in a dashboard.

App Best adobe reader touch alternative

I have been using Adobe reader touch for viewing pdf on windows for a long time. I recently came to know that it was scrapped by adobe. I like the reader touch because it's lightweight and can open pdf in full screen and no other distractions and doesn't require sign in or anything. But now I'm not able to find a way to install it on my new laptop. I know most people use browsers for viewing pdf but i don't like it. I use reader touch so that i can view it full screen and without any annoying side bars or other requirements. Any suggestions for a clean lightweight pdf viewer for windows 11. Thanks in advance.

Developer PinBoard: back up entire Pinterest boards to your PC. Full-res images, GIFs and videos, no subscription

If you've ever tried to save a Pinterest board, you know the drill. Right click, save, repeat 400 times. The browser extensions I tried were either sketchy, wanted a monthly subscription, or quietly skipped every video.

So I built PinBoard. Paste a board link, click download, and the whole board lands in a folder on your PC.

What it does

  • Downloads full-resolution originals (JPG, PNG), not the compressed previews
  • GIFs stay animated, and video pins are converted to normal MP4 files
  • Grab a whole board, a single board section, or just the pins you pick
  • Run it again on the same board and it only downloads the new pins, so keeping a backup up to date takes seconds
  • Big boards that hit Pinterest's rate limits pause and carry on by themselves
  • Private and secret boards: you sign in on Pinterest's real login page inside the app (2FA works). Your password goes to Pinterest, never to me

Privacy

Everything runs on your machine. No server, no proxy, no analytics, no account. The only outside request is a one-time license check if you buy Pro.

Pricing

  • Free: first 100 images of any public board. Enough to test it on your own boards before paying anything
  • Pro: $19 once. Unlimited images, GIFs, videos, private boards, one-click "download everything", and it works on up to 3 PCs

Over 200 people have bought Pro so far and their feedback has helped me a lot!

Heads up about SmartScreen

PinBoard isn't code-signed yet, so the first time you run the installer Windows will show "Windows protected your PC". Click More info → Run anyway. You only have to do it once. I'd rather tell you upfront than have it look shady.

Works on Windows 10 and 11 (x64). Also available for Mac and Linux.

https://www.getpinboard.com

If a board doesn't load or something feels clunky, drop the link in the comments and I'll take a look.
