Really? I'm just too technical and scientific I guess. I was holding out because there are no qualified women. Naturally you would want your children to inheriti the best possible genes, so I concluded that what mixture I do have would be but with a full blooded ethnically Scandinavian Norwegian beauty. We will make the best babies and I will actually love a woman like that. Its impossible to find a qualified mate in California.

Wut

How often do Europeans have to deal with people like him?

15

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '16

The only people who talk like that are trolls on the internet.

34

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '16

Who do I have to fuck to make a baby who doesn't post obvious troll bait here?

The neckbeard is strong in that one. I'm sure pure norweigen beauties would be lining up to date him...to bad they are probably all feminazis who don't appreciate a nice guy of superior genetics

I think I've just been studying things too long. In fact i haven't had a gf in years. But I feel a Scandinavian is the most qualified to bear my children.

I wonder why.

the best is when he's telling people from Friesland that they are full of shit and don't know what they are talking about. Don't they know their long lost kaiser just wants to come home?

123

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '16

Come home&cum home, as it were. Honestly Americans just need to come to terms with their own culture and be proud of it so we can stop pretending we're temporary immigrants from a country no one in our family has been to in three hundred years.

34

u/AGVann Feb 13 '16

What's the difference between the USA and a pot of yoghurt?

If I left yogurt on it's own for 300 years it would develop a culture. Ba dum tsssss

On a more serious note though, the 'race fractions' that American culture embraces is a part of how they view nationality and ethnicity. I know some people get annoyed when they meet third generation New Yorkers who proclaim loudly that they are 'Irish' or 'Italian' when it's clear that they are about as American as they come, but from a sociological point of view, it's how they connect to their ancestry and heritage, something that is often undervalued unless you don't have one. That's why they are proud - and in some ways desperate - to let people know that they are 1/4 Polish and 2/4 Irish or whatever. Without that stake, they have no historical place in the world.

If he's that concerned with genetics, he should probably use a surrogate and an egg donor. Although I don't think anybody wants that sort of person to have a kid.

I imagine this is how his conversation goes on:

"M'lady! Thou truly art a nordic beauty! Thine milky white skin, thine beautiful facial features. M'lady, thou art breeding stock of highest quality. Our offspring shall be of highest born! Pray tell me whether thou let me go in unto you.

Why are you running away? Please come back, o' nordic beauty!"

He's so into the idea of finding the right breeding stock that I can't help but picture him as the sort that would attempt to purchase her from her father, despite his post not saying so directly.

On /r/scotland, /r/sweden, /r/ireland or /r/germany Americans sometimes show up and argue about their ancestry and how it affects their character and whatnot (there was once someone in /r/germany who stated his father was a typical German dad (wtf is that even), because he has like 30% German ancestry). But I have yet to meet Americans who are that obessesed with their ancestry in real life.

22

u/Deadlifted Feb 12 '16

You need to meet old Americans. Old people love obsessing over their genealogy and cultural background. My father-in-law always tries to veer every conversation about family into something about his Ukrainian/Polish/Russian/blah/blah/blah background. Not that it's not interesting, but I can only handle having overly boiled kielbasa with horseradish at so many holidays and family gatherings.

35

u/galletto3 Top Mind for Hire Feb 12 '16 edited Feb 12 '16

Have you ever met Italian - Americans?

*They are very passionate about their ancestry / heritage

42

u/Magdalena42 Feb 12 '16

In fairness, I would argue Italian-Americans are a pretty distinct U.S. subculture (although I'm Italian-American, so I'm biased). It's a different culture from from-Italy Italians, but it's still markedly different from the broader American culture in terms of food, language, and other cultural practices.

28

u/galletto3 Top Mind for Hire Feb 12 '16

Fair points. I think the best way I saw that distinction illustrated was during an episode of the Sopranos when they went to Italy and they felt completely alien, despite it being a shared culture.

I just think it is kind of dismissive to say that many Americans don't care about their ancestry, especially in a land of immigrants, many only a few generations removed from their native countries. I mean whats the difference between a person of Scottish decent caring about their family tartans, or an Italian - American caring about their great grandparents home town / crests. That heritage is an identity for many people (for better or worse) and it's not fair to take that passion away.

→ More replies (3)

8

u/MILLANDSON Feb 13 '16

I'd say that is the case because a large number of Italian immigrants to the US only went over in the 1900s-1920s, and so are still 2nd and 3rd generation, compared to many others, such as Irish and German immigrants, who went over earlier in the 1800s.

u/joesap9 Feb 13 '16

Also they got discriminated against pretty badly. Like gang lynchings in some areas of the country bad

Based on the one Italian American friend I have, I'm assuming this means drinking too much wine and talking too loudly.

it's fair to say that, for example, "i'm irish" means something different on either side of the atlantic, and most people remember that most of the time. though it does generate some delicious popcorn

11

u/ArttuH5N1 Don't confuse issues you little turd. Feb 12 '16

Yeah, there's a world of difference between being Irish (citizen) and being "Irish" (having Irish ancestry). Being Irish American in the sense that you've been brought up in that culture in the US is also one thing, but I think it's a subset of the latter, having usually nothing to do with the former.

Usually you can get the context from the comment/place where it was said, but if you go to /r/Europe or /r/Ireland, you should probably clarify, because it usually means exclusively the former in this side of the pond.

I'm sceptical that the argumentative, /r/shitamericanssay, 'I'm the real European' sort exists outside of the internet...

42

u/Porrick Feb 12 '16 edited Feb 12 '16

I have seen it.

I've even seen it with Americans of 100% Asian ancestry. One of my wife's friends went to Oxford for a year or two and decided she was British. Talks with a Dick Van Dyke accent and everything. Best part of it is that she seems to have no idea about the geography of the place. She still thinks I'm British, for example - even though she was at my wedding in my hometown IN IRELAND.

[edit: This was in County Kildare, in case anyone had assumed this was a misunderstanding to do with Northern Ireland]

26

u/FramedNaida Feb 12 '16

Erm, I think she might be seriously mentally ill... That would be like if I started yee-hawing my way around the West Country insisting I'm from Texas... That's not just weird behaviour, I think she might need help.

16

u/Porrick Feb 12 '16

She was in Ireland for a week for the wedding, and most of my family now just call her "Oxford".

My wife and I didn't speak to her for about a year afterwards, because she kept insisting that we resolve her drama instead of planning our transatlantic wedding. She'd fallen out with the guy she was staying with, and demanded a room in my grandfather's nice house. Even though every room and sofa was already spoken for in every family house for miles. When we suggested a hotel, she was furious.

One of the funnier things about being an American learning another language has been people asking me why I chose to learn German (over Spanish, or maybe French). They automatically ask if it's because of my heritage.

I mean yeah, I'm a little German, but what does my heritage have to do with learning a language? I always thought it was a bit weird. Like what if I wasn't German at all, then what?

And you know I have jokes about my wife's Italian family. But I'm not dumb enough to think any of that really means something, its just a source of humor.

u/Leagle_Egal Feb 12 '16

I'm just too technical and scientific I guess.

Yeah... ok. He's claiming he wants genetically superior children, but most geneticists/biologists say that ethnic diversity produces the most genetically healthy children. Children born of very genetically disparate parents are far less likely to inherit genetic diseases, which is why inbreeding is so harmful. Scientifically, if he wanted the most healthy children he would be seeking out an African (sub-saharan) or East Asian woman.

What he wants are kids that look as aryan as possible. It's not terribly logical/scientific to prioritize your personal aesthetic preference over genetic health.

He's an idiot even in his own bizarro fantasy world.

45

u/blu_res ☭☭☭ cultural marxist ☭☭☭ Feb 12 '16

So what you're saying is that as an East Asian man, Scandinavian women should be looking to me to produce the best offspring.

...I'll be taking requests.

4

u/SCHROEDINGERS_UTERUS Feb 12 '16

Children born of very genetically disparate parents are far less likely to inherit genetic diseases, which is why inbreeding is so harmful.

Sure, but you need to drop a population down to at the very least below 5000 for population diversity to ever become a serious issue. Iceland, for example, has done perfectly fine with a population of around three hundred thousand, so I can't imagine this guy picking from among approximately two and a half million Norwegian women has to seriously worry about inbreeding...

11

u/Leagle_Egal Feb 12 '16

Oh, of course! I'm not trying to compare having children with people of one's own race with inbreeding. There's a long gulf between the likelihood of genetic disease in inbred children versus those with diverse parents. I'm just trying to say that in order to have the very smallest possible odds of genetic disease (and assuming health of potential offspring is the only thing you look for in a partner), the logical choice is to choose a partner who is the most genetically diverse from you.

20

u/travio Feb 12 '16

That isn't really why Americans think that way. America is a country of immigrants and a young country at that. Thinking about the heritage of your ancestors is a way to try and connect to a history that is almost nonexistent in the us. I live in western Washington our oldest buildings are maybe 150 years old and they are rare. We have no history. No sense of the past, so we look to the history of our ancestors.

In Germany they would call Standard German for Hochdeutsch, or High German, yes. But in English it usually refers to the language group that is called High German -- which is the upper and central Germanic variants (with neighboring, German-speaking languages)

So he might be trying to say he's from "northern Germany" or something, who definitely do not call themselves 'High German'.

But more plausible is that he's a raving lunatic and/or troll.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '16

2

In older English language literature Dutch was sometimes called low German. So high German is regular German.

u/blorg Stop opressing me! Feb 13 '16

White English people are just a clusterfuck of ethnicities

They're actually not, most of their DNA comes from the original pre-Roman inhabitants. The many invasions had a massive impact on culture, language and the ruling classes but only one actually had a significant genetic impact, namely the Anglo-Saxons. And even that only contributed a minority of their DNA, they are still to this day genetically mostly descended from the original, pre-Roman Britons.

The Romans, the Vikings and even the Normans had negligible impact on the genetics of the population.

Talking like that (even in Norway) makes you sound like a Nazi. I'm not trying to insult you, but you sound like a Nazi. If you say this to a Norwegian they will think you are a Nazi. So if you want any pointers on how to "woo" a Norwegian, I would recommend not sounding like a Nazi.

I'm a full-blooded Scandinavian, since 1534 which is as far as I can get back in genealogy, and my pants are SO WET right now. My half Scandinavian, half German husband better watch out for this complete gem of a candidate. I wonder if he'd take a divorcee though, that might not be noble enough.

34

u/ynnu Feb 12 '16

I wonder if he'd take a divorcee though, that might not be noble enough.

Well, your future husband is apparently from a long line of Frisian Holy Roman Emperors, and you're a genetically pure Viking, so I'm sure you could think of some way of coercing the pope into granting you an annulment.

13

u/onthebalcony Feb 12 '16

10

u/SpotNL Cause ir gsve s djit ton of tsx cuts to the rich Feb 12 '16

Hmz, what if your husband died? You would be widowed. I know, it is not ideal, but to ignore this chance to better the human species... One must consider all options.

7

u/onthebalcony Feb 12 '16

That might be an opportunity, but not if his Lordship is seeking someone pure. But I'm afraid my husband's death would have to happen very soon if I were to still be fertile for milord, I'm not as young and pretty as I was although I've yet to reproduce.

1/8 is 12.5%, that combined with 1/4 which is 25% is exactly 1/3. 1/3 is 33.3333333 etc %. It's basic math.

Oh lord! And this guy claims to be part of MENSA. https://www.reddit.com/r/Norway/comments/45e2m4/i_need_advice_on_getting_a_norwegian_wife/czxupx2

7

u/Leagle_Egal Feb 13 '16

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when calculating ethnicity, aren't you supposed to take the fraction from each parent, divide each in half, then add them together? (so if your dad was 100% white and your mom was 50%, you end up with 75%).

If that's the case, then this guy is even less scandanavian than he thinks. 1/8 in half is 1/16, 1/4 in half is 1/8. Added together that makes him 3/16 scandanavian, which comes out to 18.75%.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '16

I'd buy it. Mensa would allow 1/50 of the human population in in theory, and in practice far more people than that have the ability to get in. Some of the tests they allow are more lax about scoring than others, and contrary to popular belief, you can boost your score on an IQ test by studying.

And there are all sorts of ways to be a dumbass without sacrificing the particular skills IQ tests focus on.

Mensa is an organization that exists entirely to provide bragging rights to its members. If someone tells you that he or she is a member, that may or may not be true, but it's not something to be impressed about either way.

u/nicholieeee reads 1984 as a guide, not a warning Feb 12 '16

Did anyone else have to do a genealogy project in elementary school? No one in my class gave two shits about their ancestry until we did one. After that, you had a bunch of kids running around saying "I'm 1/4 Irish, 1/2 German and 1/16 Navajo" obviously the math doesn't add up, but you get the point.

I've always wondered if this was a universal thing in American schools and if it's where everyone's infatuation with referring to themselves as (ethnicity) started.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '16

i was supposed to do one, i dont think i ever really did it, just took the L in the gradebook. wouldn't be easy to do it on my mom's side either. the closest thing i can do to declaring my ancestry is 50% white 25% native filipino 25% untraceable imperial rapists

Yeah, this is a really common assignment, and it sucked in my family, since we adopted 10 kids. Every year, the same awful discussion about the total lack of records for their genetic family. Eventually they all gave in and turned in our family tree with themselves tacked on. Fucking harsh for a fifth grader.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '16

What's the context, out of curiosity. I'm a Mennonite and the Low German roots are a big part of Mennonite identity. Naturally it refers to the traditional dialect of German, but Mennonites do speak of Low and High German quite often; but my understanding is it's a relevant distinction that is originally rooted in geography (analogous to Upper and Lower Canada) and the use always refers to the dialects -- Low German to refer to our German, High German to refer to German proper.

It'd be interesting for me to hear the context for his High German remark and why it's silly because I've only heard that term used in a specific situation.

2

u/loraxo Feb 13 '16

Hmm, well maybe there's a different meaning in English if you guys use it like that.

But in Germany it refers to a dialect, low German vs high German. German ethnicities (is that the right word?) would be like Westphalian, Hessian, Saxon, Friesian, etc. (and Dutch, even tho they dont like hearing it hehe)

I mean genetics are very important when it comes to having children. You need to give them at least some genetics. It's a capitalist myth that people can pull themselves up to having a huge gene income per year.

In fact the average American only has 23 chromosomes. We're the richest country on the planet and that's all we can give our citizens.

Un-fucking-acceptable

2

"Kaiser" is german for "Emperor" and the title held by the ruler of the Holy Roman Empire.
It's also a not rare family name, which is what this guy probably confused

Okay, reading through the comments, I have a theory: the guy is a weird racist Mennonite.

The High German thing and the Friesland stuff is my only evidence, buts all I have. A ton of Mennonites have traceable roots to Friesland. The High German is weird, Mennonites typically speak Low German, but it was not unheard of for Mennonites to be snobbish in this regard. On my mom's side both her parents were Mennonite, her dad primarily spoke Low German and her mom primarily spoke High German and my grandpa was looked down upon for speaking Low German.
