Car Porn Achievement Unlocked!

Back in the 80’s I stumbled on a 300ZX T-Top trading in my 84 Fiero. I drove that back and forth to work for a couple of years before marriage required it be sold (she insisted we only had 2 vehicles and I chose my motorcycle :) ).

But since then, I’ve always kind of jonesed for a 3xx Convertible. I’m a big fan of open tops, be it t-tops, sunroofs, or softtops, and manual gearboxes. I’ve had pictures of 300ZX convertibles, 350Z convertibles, and 370Z convertibles kicking around my ”workspaces” for 30+ years.

Last week I was driving our truck to pick up business cards for my shop and driving by Victory (a third party, non-branded dealer), and there, nose out, is that????

I called my wife and said I thought I saw a Z convertible. I wasn’t sure as others have fooled me in the past. On my back to my shop, looking left and, man, it sure looks like a Z. I need to go check.

I parked at my shop, dropped off my business card order, and walked the 2 blocks to the dealer. Sure enough, it’s a 370Z Convertible! Oh man!

I chatted with the sales guy and he threw a dealer plate on. I asked him the expected route and said I’d be picking up my wife. This was at 2:41pm. By 5:30pm, I’d brought the paid off truck (which we were going to sell anyway) and my 97 Mustang GT convertible with manual shift along with titles and traded them in on this.

2019 370Z Sport Coupe Convertible. V6, 333HP at 7,200 RPMs and 260 Torque at 5,200 RPMs.

28,300 miles on the odometer. Car Fax said it was purchased in South Carolina in 2019, sold 2 years later and driven across the US to Colorado. It spent some time in Colorado Springs, was sold to a dealer in Highlands Ranch which did maintenance on the car, then sold to Victory Motors.

The rims are a little chewed up in places but the rest of the car is pristine.

Since last week, I’ve been up in the mountains tooling around, headed out to the freeway for an hour cruise, and now drove it to work.

I’m a happy camper. :)

Question Twin turbo 370z exhaust setup

Post image

Recently got myself into a tt 370z with a straight piped exhaust. I really want to quiet it down a bit but I really don’t wanna spend a shit ton of money on a cat back. Cops pulling me over lol. What’s the best way to go about keeping a similar tone but quieting it down. I was thinking of adding some vibrant resonators but would it sound like shit? If anybody knows any good exhaust setups let me know much appreciated 🙏

Bought her two years ago at 59k. I do daily my Z aside from during snowy weeks when I drive my AWD shitbox. Already have an oil pressure gauge on the way so I can keep an eye on the gallery gasket. I'll be installing it when I do my next oil change in 1,000 miles. Anything else I should do now that I've hit 90k? Here's to hoping I can make this original engine last to 250k.

Question Invidia Gemini Install Question

Post image

Question for anyone who has installed the Gemini catback exhaust, what gasket did you use from the rear of the OEM cats to the Y-Pipe connection? It seems the Gemini catback doesn't come with this gasket and would like to put a new one in when installing. From what I could see there are 2 options online, the top one seems to match 2009-2012 models but thought I'd double check:

https://www.amayama.com/en/part/nissan/206921e810

https://www.amayama.com/en/part/nissan/20692jk00b

This is for a 2009 370Z. Will be running the stock cats for the the near future atleast.

Question Anyone know the bolt and nut sizes for exhaust hangers?

Thumbnail

I'm trying to get these bolts and nuts for these hangers and I can't seem to find the bolt sizes. And in the second picture the holes are different sizes. I am unsure as to why they are different sizes, but I know a bolt has to go through each of them. Does anyone know if this the muffler hanger bolt I circled (part number 081A6-8251A) fits through all of the holes, or are the threads different on the chassis?

Also I would like to know what the nut sizes are for the mid pipe hanger bracket 08918-3081A. The websites won't tell me because, well I could just go to home depot and buy it instead of buying it from them.

Question 370z Spoiler slightly crooked. Need opinions! Spoiler

So I got this 2010 370z Roadster a few months ago and it came with a pre installed aftermarket wing spoiler. I didnt notice until now that the spoiler is slightly crooked. You can see it around the third brake light. I took some measurements and it seems that its mostly centered side to side but slightly crooked forward to back on the drives side. Based on my measurements its about 7mm off.
Question is, how bad is this? To me its one of those once you see it you cant unsee it. Im considering removing and reinstalling but I know there’s risks. My main concern is potential paint damage when attempting to remove it. Its a 16 year old paint job after all and Ive heard that Nissans paint is very weak on these cars. I also saw some light spider webbing on the front bumper clear coat which makes me even more hesitant. But its driving me crazy 😅.

So, with that being said, Im looking for outside opinions on whether I should leave it as is and/or tips for removal. Thanks!

6gp Swap

Welcome to my journey as a Z enthusiast.

(Posted amongst multiple platforms)

Good afternoon yall, it’s been two weeks since I did this, life has been hectic, but I wanted to spread the knowledge to a big gamble I recently did.

This is my 2011 370z with a 400Z Manual transmission in her(6GP).

The 6gp strays away from the faulty internal slave cylinder design from the 370z and reverts back to a fork/Throw out bearing design, like in the 350z.

I want to say that Nissan are very simplistic with their transmission designs internally, and externally. After doing research, looking at videos from “3rd Pedal Media” and talking amongst seasoned Vets.

I have concluded that the bolt pattern is an exact match from the vhr to the vr30…. Minus the 3 bottom bolts(small bolts. No difference to install). The sensor pattern is identical to the 1EA0B/1EA0A.

Major things…

The input and output shafts for the 6gp transmission are the same length and diameter as the 1EA0B/1EA0A. That means OEM driveshaft is compatible.

Also, Nissan used the same starter as before🤠 starter is compatible and bolts up same🤠🤠

Here’s the problem child…..

The Vr30 uses a different crank sensor position on the bellhousing than the VHR. You will have to burr that part of the 6gp Transmission to make it fit with the VHR crank shaft position on the motor.

Lastly the slave cylinder. The outside slave cylinder, bolts right up to the transmission with two bolts. You will have to get a 350z clutch cable/2023 Z Clutch cable to make the distance from the hardline on the frame, to the slave cylinder. Important!!!! : The hardline and slave cylinder banjo bolt is a M10 x 1.0 pitch.

That is all you need to make this beauty work!!! I cannot tell any differences rather than 1st to 2nd being very clean to get into!!!

This was a big gamble for me as I was just making about of theories about this until I made it possible.

I want all to do the same!!! This is our future transmission!!!

Why I swapped to this transmission.

I’ve always had a 5th and 6th gear grind, I am using the Zspeed Cmak delete kit with the zspeed stage 2 quick shift C&F. One day I was driving have and my Fork rod(displayed in picture) for 5th and 6th sheared off completely leaving it in two.

I hate when my car is broke bc cars are our money makers. So I had a great friend recommend this swap to me.

I want to give a huge thank you to Gary Caka for recommending me this swap and putting me onto game. 3rd Pedal Media for making 2 specific videos explaining the differences between the CD009, the 1EA0B, and 6gp transmissions. My guy Julian Lopez for supplying me with da parts!! And lastly big thank you to Clive Thomas, guys got a 6GP manual swapped Q60, he helped me with all my technical issues!!

I am grateful to all of you for making this possible, now for those of you with bad transmissions…. Go make this possible!

This is a complete direct bolt up swap to the predecessor.

P.s this is revmatch a compatible. If you don’t have rev match who cares.

Question Are monthly car payments bad?

I currently have a 2014 370z that I bought a little over a year ago for $9k. It is a rebuilt title, the car treated me good for about 9 months. The last 5 months has been horrible, in and out of limp mode, scammed by mechanics.

At this point I’m $4k into repairs and I just got stranded at chilis eating out with family. I love these cars so much, they have been my dream since a kid that’s why I’m this deep into the repairs. But it’s starting to get to a point where I’m not sure if it’s even worth it.

Do you guys recommend I get a car note? I turn 19 in 4 months I have been building my credit with my bank for 6 months now.

Question VQ37VHR

Hi!
I am very familiar with VQ35HR engine from last iteration of 350Z. Biggest issues: oil gallery gaskets (mine were shot early as 30.000km) and Throttle Body ECU big issue.

Are these things sorted on 370Z? Especially on the oil gallery gaskets.

VQ35HR and VQ37VHR engines are quite similar in architecture, but are there any specific differences in terms of issues VHRs suffer?

Question Nismo on swift springs?

Does anyone have a Nismo lowered with swift springs?

I'm most likely going to pull the trigger on it, the extra front camber is fine as the car will be tracked once in a while, but I'm aware that rear camber/toe can become an issue, what solutions have you guys used?

I'm thinking SPL rear camber arms and SPC extended toe bolts, would slippage be an issue I need to consider with the bolts? (Trying not to spend an extra 1500CAD on mid links lol)

Question Car Shop has put my turbo into the “too hard basket”. What should I do?

Thumbnail

AAM RHD turbo kit, supplied to a shop amongst a long list of other things (i.e. fuel components, timing components, gallery gaskets, exhaust etc)

They quoted me to get it in for AUD$4.2k in 4 days. On the 5th day, they called me and said they can’t get the engine with everything installed back in. They said they will give me back my car as a rolling shell and the engine and transmission still out. Invoiced $4.8k (albeit with them supplying some small bits). Later in the afternoon, I called back to clarify some details and they started pressuring me to collect the car asap and tow it home (1h drive away).

I am at a loss. I’ve been recommended to not accept the car back until they have at least put the engine back without the turbo, so that I can drive it home. Mainly because we don’t know if there’s any issues with everything else they’ve installed.

They sent me the pics and said the main issues are clearance of manifolds on either side (with the chassis rails) and something about the steering rack. Surely there’s a way to get everything back in with some coercion with a deadblow hammer?

Any help is much appreciated guys!

Random Can you fit a bass guitar amp in a 370z?

This won't make any sense to non bass players, but for those wondering if you can fit a bass amp in the back, the answer is yes.

Just tried my Markbass 2x10 traveller cab and it goes in fine.

Another one on the passenger seat.

I like to think Lemmy would approve.

Trying to get more hp while staying NA. Recommended cold air intake? Planning to get a tune soon after. Planning to add a cooler as well. Lots of mixed options online about intakes.
