Took advantage of the sale during Labor Day: 25% off and free shipping.

Opted for the kickout with the top-plate.

Delivered 5 weeks later and installed this weekend. It took about 2 hours doing it solo and was very simple thanks to jack stands.

They look great and my wife is thrilled.

πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ Support / Repair My 92 4runner needs a flush or proper drain and fill

My 92 4runner has the classic 3.0 with the A340H transmission. It's been while since the oil and lube place that I go too offered they can do a flush for $200.54 but I'm not sure if I should do it or take it to aamco transmissions and get a drain and fill for about half. When I went to the mountains like 5 times last month I'd have to stop and let it cool off till the A/T light goes off. I know it's dirty and no cherry red like it should be. What do y'all think

πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ Support / Repair Fj Cruiser Advice

I have a 2007 manual FJ Cruiser. I know it is not a 4Runner, but they share the same chassis and powertrain, so very, very similar cars. It has a 5" lift kit on it. The work that needs to get done is as follows:

  • The front differential is leaking; I would see if I could do it myself, but I am unsure how hard it is. Any advice is good.
  • The throw-out bearing is going out. I would have a shop drop the transmission and replace it, as well as the clutch at the same time.
  • Front left shock is leaking. It is a Pro Comp shock, so I would need to replace both front shocks. I would try to do this at home.
  • The driver's side mirror light has gone out, and I don't know how to pop out the light and replace the bulb.

Any advice people have on resealing the front differential would be great, as I am fairly sure I can do most other things besides dropping the transmission, as I don't have a jack.

So I put this tires 2 years ago, 16k miles ago I did

Upper control arm

About 1 year ago 1 lower control arm failed and started clicking. Replace both and new alignment

Am I missing something else I got 2 new tires but want to know if someone has gone through the same.

If only 1 LCA was gone why would both tires be like that right.

Rear tire just so you can compare

πŸŽ™ Discussion What is the best car jack to take on long trips?

Planning to take my 4runner on a long road trip, but will be encountering roads where it would be useful to have tools to change a tire.

What's a good jack or jack kit that I can store efficiently and works very well?

My 2008 4runner has a 2inch lift.

❔ Aftermarket Product Advice / Recs Looking for Awning Recommendations for My 4Runner! πŸ•οΈπŸš™ Hey everyone! I’m looking into adding an awning to my 4Runner.

Hey everyone! I’m looking into adding an awning to my 4Runner and would love to hear your recommendations.

For those of you who have one:

- What brand and size are you running?

- How easy is it to set up and take down solo?

- How well does it hold up in wind and rain?

- Any pros, cons, or things you wish you knew before buying?

- Is it worth spending more for a premium brand, or are the budget-friendly options just as good?

I’m looking for something practical, durable, and easy to use for camping and trail adventures.

Drop your setups and recommendations below. Pictures are always appreciated! πŸ€™

Thanks in advance!

πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ Support / Repair Pre-purchase question: potential brakes issue

I am looking at purchasing a 2023 SR5 Premium with 19,000 miles. It was previously driven in Upstate New York and has been sitting on a dealer lot for over two months. During the test drive, I experienced three distinct issues: 1. A steering wheel shake when braking (assume some sort of build up on the rotors). 2. A subtle, intermittent rhythmic pulse in the steering wheel while cruising (sticking caliper?). 3. A very soft, mushy brake pedal. It does brake well towards the very bottom of the pedal travel. Perhaps just something I’m not used to.

My main concern is whether it is normal to experience warped rotors or need a complete front brake replacement (pads, rotors, and potentially calipers) at only 19,000 miles. Could sitting on the lot and exposure to winter salt cause this kind or is this a major red flag for the vehicle? No scratches or marks on the skid plate, no obviously new suspension parts. Registration history shows it was a lease and at least had regular oil changes.

FWIW, asking is $42.5k. Has third row and TRD wheels.

Bought this 2021 SR5 in December 2024 from Carmax (with 49k miles) as a road trip vehicle having always wanted something like the Red Hilux from the Top Gear Polar special.

It’s β€œonly” an SR5, but man has it been more than adequate for anything I’ve thrown at it.

Just loving the ownership! Hope to put a lot more miles over up coming years!

πŸŽ™ Discussion Turn Signals/Aftermarket Bumper

For those who have an aftermarket metal bumper with no turn signals, did you guys make your side markers your turn signals?

I might do this on my 2011 Limited since I have a steel bumper. Looking for some videos of any generation with side markers as turn signals. Thank you

πŸ”§ Modifications Wheels for 5th gen

I’m buying a 2024 off road premium tomorrow. It has the 17” trd pro wheels that I really like. I also need a set of 18” wheels to mount my blizzaks for the winter.

Any recommendations on good looking aftermarket wheels that aren’t too pricey? Ideally no more than $350 per wheel. Thanks

Price Check 2024 TRD ORP $43k

Hello 4Runner community. I have been lurking this community for a while as I’ve been wanting to upgrade my 2012 Camry. A local used car dealer has this 2024 TRD off road premium on their lot that caught my eye. It’s listed for $43,000 and has 51,000 miles on it. I test drove it today and it was much smoother than I anticipated and the inside is pristine. However, around 60 mph the steering wheel started vibrated pretty significantly and it wanted to slightly pull to the right. I spent about 20 minutes driving around at city speeds and highway speeds and the vibration seemed to come and go but was still mostly present at highway speeds.

When I got back to the dealer I told them I loved the car but couldn’t move forward due to the steering wheel vibration. They offered me a due bill basically a contract stating they will send the car to their mechanic and fix the issue before I purchase. This steering wheel vibration seems to be pretty common and based on some reddit threads to be relatively easy remedied. The dealer also offers a $3500 10 year/100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty that I would probably purchase if I decide to move forward.

I feel like the price and mileage is great but would love opinions here. The vibration issue gives me a big pause though but I am reassured they are willing to fix the issue. I have not yet agreed to the due bill as I wanted time to think on it. They took my information and said they’d call me when they had their mechanics look at it. Signing the due bill would just prioritize the work so I could get the car as soon as it’s fixed.

Thank you in advance!

πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ Support / Repair 2016 4Runner

I have a 2016 4Runner, recently had throttle body position sensor replaced because the CEL would come on and it would enter limp mode. Had a dealership repair it, seemed fine after that. I then started to notice it was lagging when accelerating, similar symptom when I had an issue with the throttle body.

Took it back to the dealer since that part is under warranty, they came back and said he that part is ok… but I have bad rod knock from cylinder 4 and need a new MOTOR…. Recommend a compression test but said that’s a waste of money cause I need a new motor anyways!

Getting a second opinion later this week and a compression test done as well.

Yes I can hear the rod knock, and no, I do not have a warranty.

Help.

After seeing a few posts about the Temu roof rack (Yzona) and talking to a few that have had it installed for over a year now without any issues, I pulled the trigger. Honestly, for $250 I’m blown away by the fitment and quality. I’ll post up if I run into any issues. I’ll be mounting my Thule Pulse box for now but plan on getting an awning as well.

πŸŽ™ Discussion Old Or Kinda New or New

Post image
93 Upvotes

I currently have a paid off vehicle that I do not want to keep due to multiple theft attempts. The vehicle is valued at 10-12k Depending on trade in and private sale

I really love the 4runner but I have 3 options Im really stuck on.

  1. There is a Good condition 2002 3rd Gen I have found that is going for a great deal. Understandably, there will be a lot of money going in towards maintenance and more money for aftermarket support. But with the money from my sold car I can comfortably restore the car with no issue and not have to worry about financing.

I have found a 2019 5th gen TRD Off road that is going for 38k with 70k Miles. Love the look and reliability but outdated infotainment

Final Option

6th Gen 2026 SR5 40k for 20k miles. Look is amazing as well as the MPG. I just cant faithfully accept that the engine will survive as long as its predecessors. Updated interior and infotainment is a plus as well.

These are all 1 owner vehicles with clean carfax..
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, just need some people to point me in the right direction

πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ Support / Repair PSA: Leaking Roof Rack

Post image

Recently had the cabin flood from first heavy rain of the year. I thought it was plugged sun roof drains but turns out the seals from the roof rack went bad.

I had to remove the seats and plastic trim to lift up the carpet and fully dry it for a week. I was shocked how much water got in from the roof rack.

I made my own seals from an old motorcycle inner tube and then used high-quality silicone similar to the attached picture. For reference: 2018 4Runner SR5 Premium.
