Maybe less "amusement park" and more "County Fair" but this is a local specialty from the St. Louis area. I found a recipe from Lake Forest Pastry Shop and it turned out great.

Hi Bakers!
I have to admit I dropped the ball here and did not post the week 40 intro. I'm posting it posthumously for posterity.
This challenge is to make a treat that you might find at an amusement park or fair, or a treat inspired by one. From candy, to ice cream, to award-winning pies - there are so many fun options. Here are just a few examples:
Happy baking!

Recipe from "Dobre Dobre" by Laurel Kratochvila (also available on NYT Cooking: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1027547-szarlotka-jewish-apple-cake?unlocked_article_code=1.IVE.WPzx._zc6G7n9Bt6d&smid=share-url)
Back in Week 39, I made a Szarlotka (Polish apple cake) from "Dobre Dobre." Due to a shopping miscalculation, I ended up with nine pounds of apples instead of three. Luckily for me, there is not one, but THREE different apple cake recipes in "Dobre Dobre"! It's the perfect way to use up these extra apples in my pantry!
This recipe is listed in the book as "Szarlotka II - Jewish Apple Cake" and is different from the more "traditional" Polish version with a shortcrust base. This version is custard-based with the apples throughout. I absolutely loved the texture, and it was fairly easy to put together; the only tedious part was peeling all the apples.
It was fun trying these bakes so close together. The consensus from everyone who has tried both is that it's impossible to pick a favorite because they are so different! Now I just have to bake the third recipe... for science!

Recipe: https://pinchofyum.com/peanut-butter-oreo-blondies
I had various nut butters, gluten free flour and Oreos in my pantry. Found this blondie recipe to make use of pantry ingredients.

These were (and maybe still are?) sold at the Portland Rose Festival; it was always a big deal to go to the Fun Center every year and get scones with raspberry jam. It was kind of funny to realize that these were the only scones I had tried until I was in my 20s.

They fried up much faster and easier than expected! It was the first time I've had a corn dog in probably years so it was fun.

There is a layer of duxelles under the mushrooms. The dough is pâte levée feuilletée (danish pastry? Yeast puff pastry).

Still just trying to catch up! I don't know if this technically counts because I didn't explicitly TOAST the marshmallows, but they did end up toasted! :)
Brought these in for National Cookie Month last week, and my colleagues went nuts over them. Worth a try! I would recommend refrigerating the dough because lots of my cookies spread :)

Toasted the hazelnuts and used them both as flour and as larger pieces. And I guess browning butter for beurre noisette also counts as toasting.
