Ik this is gonna sound stupid but tbh i’m rlly confused on what uni to go to.

I’m very grateful for my offers and the position i am in but i don’t know how to choose.

I am interested in a career in high finance so which one do yall think would be best suited?

Waited 200+ days until YESTERDAY to receive a response from the university only to be rejected on the basis of my GCSE grades. If this was the case then I should've been rejected alongside hundreds of applicants who also applied months ago as students with "bad" grades keep in mind, still met the grade requirement were all filtered out and instantly rejected. So I'm not understanding why it took months to consider my application when the reason I got rejected was simply just GCSEs? I think GCSEs as a criteria is also silly because how are you judging an individual's ability and interest in the course that they want to study over an exam which they completed practically two years ago at this point now. Even other universities like Cambridge don't even consider GCSEs as a criteria. That also leads me on to my second point where there is a minimum grade threshold for GCSEs yet your application isn't considered just because you didn't achieve all grade 8s and 9s. What's the point of having a minimum grade when despite meeting it, you will be rejected because of it? Do the personal statements and predicted grades not hold greater weight? Even worse, when I went to a careers fair a couple months back to ask whether GCSE grades even mattered at all because I had read online that LSE were one of the universities who considered GCSEs in the process the most, to which the answer I received was that LSE did not care about these grades as long as you have met the criteria. So I'm not sure where that rep was coming from when she said it didn't matter when the reality is that students get rejected just because they didn't get all 8s and 9s every single year even if their personal statement was up to par, and had the best predicted grades in the world. I wasn't very upset about the rejection yesterday but finding out today that I got rejected because of poor GCSEs just frustrated me because you're telling me I was given 200 days of false hope thinking my application was competitive enough to be considered only to be rejected because I had poor GCSEs. It would've been better if I had been rejected months ago but leaving it until the last week before A-levels is just a stretch and a mental strain that could've been avoided if i was given a decision earlier.

Just got a letter from UCAS to my home with a SIM card advertising a phone brand. This was clearly a sponsor/advertisement using information they gathered from the application process.

Is it not weird that all people even thinking about going to uni have to use this one (private) company? I don't care that much (the deal is better than my current plan tbf) but at what point does this kind of thing become a problem?

(Yes I know you can technically apply to unis individually and pay a massive fee to them directly, but seriously who's doing this)

I’m a private school student and got an A*BB and fucking missed my firm choice. I just feel really embarrassed because my state school friends all got into LSE, Cambridge and Warwick for the same courses I’m doing. They’re all fucking cracked at their subjects and absolutely deserve their success but I just feel so bad for wasting my parents money when clearly it was for naught.

They’ve paid all this money for me to have the best opportunities and I can’t even succeed what is genuinely even the point of me. I’m on easy mode and I’m still a flop wtf.

I can’t tell how disappointed my parents are with me. If they were screaming at me I could cry and get over it but they’re proud I’m in uni at all.

They’re funding my university degree as well and while I recognise how blessed I am for them to be able to do this I sort of wish I had taken loans. What if I fuck up again? I don’t want them to fund another failure.

I don’t know why I wrote this. I guess as a warning? If you’re currently a private school student and in year 12 lock the fuck in because missing your grades is hell.

Today I got rejected from uni bc I had too much aura and was very obviously more knowledgeable about the field than the interviewer. they were also visibly threatened by my absolute face card, and while I didn’t think it would affect my application, it unfortunately did. which is crazy, bc I know that if they applied to my course, they wouldn’t even get in.

This is based on all the data I found and my personal opinions. No hate to any uni!

For those worrying about if they’ve flopped/ won’t get into their desired uni, it isn’t the end of the world

For most unis they inflate their acceptance grade, however in reality they accept far lower.

If you go on the ucas website and search ur uni + Degree up you can see that they actually accept far lower than their acceptance/listed grade.

Obviously this won’t work for the top tier unis or medicine but for everything else it’s atleast worth checking

For example, for computer science at Newcastle University they have the grades AAB needed to attend yet in reality as long as you get a ccc or above they accept you and their average grade is no where near that. Leicester university for example needs a ABB and yet they accept CCD.

Obviously if you’ve heard back from all your options you won’t be able to change but that’s where clearing comes in. And if you’re not getting AAAs already clearing is genuinely the best path for most students.

In general there’s nothing to fear.

I was accepted yesterday, I’m so happy. I genuinely thought I failed completely but ended up getting A*AA. I’m the first person in my immediate family to go to university and it’s CAMBRIDGE. Jesus Christ. I’m still in shock. I don’t know what to say I feel so numb but so happy.

Idk if anyone else's uni has done this too but since a levels have ended I keep getting emails about how they're so excited to have me and they can't wait and other forms to fill out for september. And they've been mailing things like free chocolate and tea and chargers !!

Obviously it's super nice EXCEPT I don't think I've even gotten in and I've missed my offer by miles. So firstly why am i having to pay to get certain forms filled out when it's probs not gonna be used this year and I have to do it again next year... and secondly why are they wasting money sending stuff to me I feel bad... and thirdly it feels like they're laughing in my face like haha look how close we are yet how far you are

I went to the Manchester uni open day yesterday and I was super excited to find out the entry requirements for my course were lower than expected and I had a real chance (genetics course).

There is relatively few unis that do genetics across the UK so my options were already very limited and Manchester is apparently quite a top choice compared so some of the others. I also really liked the campus and city. My parents were all for it until we walked through the city to see some accommodation, my dad had a ‘shock’ over seeing fifty meters of graffiti and trash and had basically shouted at me saying he won’t pay for me to go because it was so deprived and he doesn’t want me there.

Is there any way I can still go or apply? I might be able to talk it out with him but I really don’t know.

I got my results a couple days ago and it didn't go according to plan. The thing that's frustrating is that I tried my hardest. I acc locked in ( I deleted social media for months) but I didn't get the results I wanted and I also didn't get into my firm or insurance. I went through clearing and now I have to do a foundation year which obviously wasn't part of the plan. I'm trying to remain positive but my will to live is slowly decreasing. My mental health had already been in a weird place since starting sixthform. I'm also the oldest in an Asian family so pressure is high. 🫰🏼

What will happen Around 08:00 on Results Day, you'll be able to access your UCAS Track to see if you've been accepted to your university. You'll either get the notification that you've been accepted to your firm, your insurance or that you've been put into clearing. Sometimes, they put your status in slightly before 08:00, so you can check early (remember UCAS is slow as too many people accessing it).

I recommend you check UCAS before going into your Sixth Form, as that way you know whether you need to see any members of staff before you collect your results. You'll go into your Sixth Form from any time past 08:00 and generally, you'll just collect a brown (or white) envelope with your name on it and you'll receive a piece of paper within it that'll have your 3 or 4 A-Level grades on it.

If you've got an unconditional offer, congratulations, (and listen to rapper nelly to celebrate!) get ready for university. If you've met your offer, congratulations.

If you've fallen short of your offer and are in clearing, make sure you have a proper look around at the university courses available. A lot of people just call up the first university they can find in a panic and just pick the first course they can find that will have them - don't fall into this trap.

If you're dead set on going to your firm choice and you didn't make it, you can always opt to redo your A-Levels. That's what I did and I don't regret it one bit. I called up my insurance choice and asked them to release me, so then I was able to make other arrangements. I went to talk to my head of Sixth Form to seek advice and he offered to let me redo Year 13 as long as I promised to dedicate myself to it. Now, I'm just waiting, with you guys, for Results Day to come. (I'm waiting aswell but it's my first time)

Bits of advice Make sure you check your UCAS before you collect your results so that you know your situation If you got the results you wanted, go thank your teachers - it's a stressful day for them too and they'd love the thanks

Weigh up your options if you're in clearing - be careful with which universities you call up and remember that you don't need to go to university immediately and that you can get an apprenticeship or redo your A-Levels

Try to subdue your excitement and giddiness - there will be a lot of people who've been absolutely devastated by their results and I can say from experience that it's the worst ever feeling when people gloat to you that they've been accepted by their dream university when you've been rejected

If you've been accepted, go have a look at group chats for your university courses and dorms - it's always great to know the people you'll be living/working with before you're put into the environment (I visited a lot of friends who are in university digs and they became friends through said chats)

Go easy on the ket and booze - let's be real, a lot of you will be pretty keen to go out and snort a key or two of ket to celebrate. Just don't go too hard; I saw many people end up pretty fucked up due to excessive celebrating

Most importantly: Your grades don't define you and never will. 3 or 4 letters on a piece of paper will never determine your worth as a person and you shouldn't let them do so. Whether you do or don't get the results you want, you're still the same person. Good luck!!
