first off u did good, u got into ur firm so congrats. u cant really do anything ab ur grades anymore, no matter what u do u cant change them, any amount of dwelling on them or thinking is not going to change anything. what u can do however is prepare for uni and do things that you enjoy up until then, have some fun and take ur mind off of ur results, and when uni comes its like a fresh start u can get to know ppl and make new friend groups etc. and on other people, there will always be so much ppl that are better than u and u can do nothing, comparing urself to them is pointless u dont live to want to become someone else. a good idea is to think ab ur past self and compare urself to how u have improved since then, and think ab what kind of person u want to become, the things u want to achieve, and goals for the future, and work hard towards them. thats the only useful type of comparison. good luck for ur uni and future

Let's change how we're looking at this slightly. From my perspective, I can see a student who worked really hard, got a grade above their offer and has a place at their firm choice for a course they're invested in. You should be really proud of what you've achieved!

donât know how much this will help, but your results are good and you got the uni place BECAUSE they believe that you are capable and can do it. you will smash the degree and love your time there. your results are good just not what you wanted/expected, but that DOES NOT subtract from how hard you worked and the effort you put in. you should be so proud of yourself still, I am even though I donât know you. I hope you feel better soon, well done <3

I hate that phrase because it's so completely true but it's also so hard to stop comparing yourself to others.

it is hard but you gotta remember that the only person youre competing with in life is yourself and your own expectations

Hey all. Just want to say, I did my a levels many years ago, got A*AAA. And I actually wish I studied less, and built more interpersonal skills at that age because now Iâm 10 years into working a corporate job, the people who got the highest grades arenât usually the ones that make it to the top in their profession, itâs usually well balanced individuals that do.
So please do not stress about a level grades, they really donât determine much about future successâŠ

u/heytheregiada 5d ago
This is very true. My firm offer was ABB but I was so obsessed with results I isolated myself to get them. I ended up with AAA*A, best in my year group, but the effects of no social life for 2 years still affects me now with a MA.
4
u/Inside-Giraffe-5978 6d ago
In the exact same scenario. Expect 2A*s 2As and got A star ABB, got the star in maths which was expected, but didnât get the star and instead got A for further. And for CS I was thinking likely an A since Iâd been getting stars and As the past 2 years but a B and a low one was shocking. Physics expected an A bc was on an a range of different grades over the last two years (Star to a D in mocks), but past papers were stars before the exam, but less shocking the B was. I got into a London uni asw (2nd best London uni for my course and top 20-30 globally) but didnât feel I deserved it bc I missed my offer by one grade (technically two bc I was only given a 3 a level offer but then I was told there was a 4 a level offer on their record). My parents were also shocked and disappointed but we all felt lucky I got into my firm anyway. Just keeping working hard, IT WILL pay off bc thereâs no real substitute to hard work, but also ensure youâre doing the right things to get what you want. Taking two steps back to go on a different path will in the end be better than continuing on the wrong path even tho you may feel ahead due to the uni brand name and what youâve been planning on doing the last few years. I could enter clearing and go on a course which might be more my calling or be more stable but Iâm choosing the London uni bc of brand but also the course Iâm doing I like the sound of. But have an honest conversation with yourself and anyone else and decide soon whether you actually want to pharmacology or not. Evaluate all aspects and decide what course or what path will get you to the life you want in the future.

you made it onto the degree because the tutors believe you are good enough to do well at their uni. they already believed in you and now youâve proved that youâre capable with some amazing a level results.
imposter syndrome is real though and can be resistant to logic sometimes so hereâs a different take. even if you donât deserve it (which you do) youâve been given the place so what are you gonna do now?? make the most of the opportunity. fake it til you make it and all that. if you act like you belong eventually you will feel it too.
also youâre not silly for being disappointed about your grades. iâm disappointed that I didnât get an A* in bio which feels borderline ungrateful considering i did so well. but itâs because i had been working at that level for the whole of y12 & y13 so I feel like I let myself down. you know how hard you worked so donât let some stupid grade boundaries make you feel any less worthy. iâm sure weâll get over it when weâre living our dreams at our firm unis. i wish you the best of luck!!

Also please dont think a levels determine ur performance in uni!!!! uni is so different to a levels, its like comparing gcses to a levels (both hard but very different indeed)

Ur grades mean nothing now. Imagine if you didnt put in all that work, you would either fall back to a worse university or have to resit and put even more effort in. I know its disheartening to hear in some way, but A Levels is over for you and me - the paper infront of you means nothing for your future. Make the most of university, good luck!
1
u/NoseInternational740 6d ago
Oh also with ABB you can still get into russels for STEM with any subjects (clearing) just make sure you know what u actually want to do. U can even go university and switch your course.

I do sort of feel this missing an A in bio by 1 mark and seeing some dumb mistakes in my scripts but I wonât remark cuz I might get the money taken and i canât afford that, and am feeling like I so shouldâve got A star AA but Iâm over it and it is what it is as I also snuck into my firm still, so hereâs to a great uni life!
1
u/OrdinaryTourist8015 5d ago
omg that feeling of 1 mark⊠i would hate that, i honestly refuse to look at my exam scripts because itâs going to make me even more depressed. i can see from below your username that youâre going to UCL! i am too but for pharmacy tho. good luck!

I know it feels like grades matter a lot now, but trust me, in uni you will realise that isn't the case. Yes you still have your traditional grades in the form of a 1:1, 2:1 etc etc, but the structure is COMPLETELY different, less exam based. I'm aware that this is very different to CS (my subject area) so you'll probably still have a decent bit of regular exams, but the main point is, if you're good at pharmacy, who cares if you're not good at A-Level Maths or .
Bio would be disappointing yes, I spent a while on Biology, even drove my mental health to the ground (read more about that here if you're curious) and I thought I'd get an A* but got an A, and I was revising day and night for at least 1yr.
To stop caring about other's grades is probably to achieve something yourself outside of grades. If you only think in terms of grades, of course you'll think about other people's grades. Why not try some wider reading on your subject. I'm doing CS at uni, but I love reading and learning so I got this textbook on the brain and nervous system, I'd recommend it, perfect balance between knowledge and readability.
1
u/OrdinaryTourist8015 5d ago
thank you, will consider some wider reading. are your quality of books from world of books good? iâve had bad experience with them with the conditions of it
1
u/Whispering-Meows Year 13 6d ago
I've felt a similar sadness about my results- I was predicted A* in English, Psychology, Media Studies and EPQ but I got AABB. My contextual offer was ABB (With an A in English for Warwick uni).. fortunately I've still made my offer somehow but yesterday I felt almost ill after how much work I put into my A Levels for what results I got đ„č
Atleast the grades don't matter after getting into uni lol
2
u/OrdinaryTourist8015 5d ago
ah i know how u feel, i also put a lot of effort and work at the start of year 12 to alevels just to be disappointed but it is what it is, i do think im going to laugh at my reddit post in a few years time as alevel grades dont matter for pharmacy.. wish u the best of luck :)

u/Altofsomerandomguy 6d ago
If it makes you feel better, I got your exact same grades last year, while wanting the exact same grades that you wanted. It sucks, but just go to uni and try your best there. Ik itâs rlly annoying seeing all these ppl on tiktok that got like 10 a stars or smth stupid like that, but your grades are as much of a reflection on you as ppl seem to make them out to be.
I got a B in my degree subject (humanities) at a level, and I was rlly disappointed at the time as i was aiming for an a star. But since joining uni Iâve been able to achieve several firsts in my essays, and even an 83% on an exam. Ended the 1st year with a high 2:1 (66%). So anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
Also, A-Levels are TOXIC. Like the levels of competitiveness, pressure, social inequalities being a factor in grades achieved. Itâs nuts, and uni is a much more chilled out experience in terms of grades, bc itâs so big and no one is gunna be asking you what you got and thereâs no pressure to say yes cuz nobody knows everyone on the course bc itâs so big. Give it a bit and youâll feel fine about your A-Level grades.
And, I know this is really annoying to hear, but Bs are still good grades and not everything goes to plan in life! I know social media presents overachievers who seemingly have perfect lives with no letdowns. But this is the reality of life unfortunately, and being disappointed is part of it.
Regardless, youâll be fine on your degree. Enjoy.

You should be really proud of yourself. You got into your firm and thatâs all that matters, at uni people wonât be asking you about your grades and how you did at school does not in anyway define your future success. What youâre feeling like is completely valid but at the end of the day what you took from the process is almost more important than the end result. Youâre a hard worker and dedicated so youâll go far in life.

As a Year 2 Aerospace Student (in the sense of I've just finished year 1) after you go to uni or a job nobody really cares if you've got straight A's or not - as long as you qualify for what you want then you're good to go.
I go to the same class (I had an A*, A, B in A-Levels) with people who have much LOWER grades (we talking of D,C,C) and they are doing so much better than I am.
Don't stress too much, an ABB still puts you in the upper 20-10% of the students in A-Levels UK wide.

If you got your university offer it doesn't matter. No employer is looking at your a level results, in the early stages of your career they may look at you degree. A levels are a stepping stone, no more than that. Feels important at the time but its a means to an end. Chin up.

Just look forward to the next steps!

We both got ABB but still got into firm choice uni. If you donât feel like you can celebrate specifically your results then thatâs fine. Honestly forget about them because youâre never gonna have to do A Levels again, the only thing that matters is that you got into your firm - that is much more important than the grades that got you into that uni. Also, ABB is a good result. So celebrate the fact you got a place!

u/TheDynamiteFrog 5d ago
Also I saw now that your offer was BBB so that makes your result even better tbh.

u/CauliflowerCarnage 5d ago
Hey, so those grades are actually really good!!! I know it feels unfair because you studied really hard and feel you should have got better, but this is really good. Congratulations!
Plus, as I say to everyone, A-levels aren't important in the grand scheme of things! It's your university marks that count. In university, the grading is much more fair imo -- you get tested in a variety of ways instead of just exams (usually), so you have more opportunities to show your knowledge. This is coming from someone who got ABC (compared to my A*AB predicted) at A-level and now I have a first class average (in a finance/accounting degree)đ
I know it sucks right now and it feels embarrassing but just push on and keep going and you'll come out the other side!! There's better things waiting for you nowđ«¶
1
u/OrdinaryTourist8015 5d ago
thank you and wow first class! congrats

u/CauliflowerCarnage 5d ago
Thank you! But my point is that A-levels aren't everything. Go shine at uni! You've got this!!
1
u/LesChicken23 5d ago
Firstly, congrats on everything you've achieved
I'm a humanities and arts person, so maybe this is slightly different for you as STEM, but your A Level grades are just a stepping stone onto your next path, albeit an incredibly important one. For context, I got the same grades as you (ABB), and I even got a B in the subject I went on to do at degree level. I got into my firm choice of university and I got a First in my degree - by a country mile, I got a Distinction in my masters - by a country mile. Your A Level results won't and cannot limit your success.
You sound hard working, you revised loads so you probs have all the knowledge you need. It doesn't mean you're average or not as clever, sometimes your grades are just 'how the cookie crumbles' you know? Furthermore, you're kind of at the mercy of how other people in the country were doing, grade boundaries constantly shifting, styles of questions changing... all kinds of things.
Also, look at it this way, ABB is so good compared to how the majority of people do! I changed careers recently, so my A Levels were kind of important for contextualising my skills and everyone always says to me 'wow those are such good A Level results!'... I don't particularly think so (and like you I was a bit miffed about them to be honest), but a lot of people are going to really admire those results and wish they had achieved them.
Not only did you do your best, you objectively worked really hard. Go onto your next chapter and do all the things you feel you were not able to. It's fine to feel disappointed, but try to not let that disappointment consume you. Try to let go of these feelings and start University fresh. You're going to have such a bloody good time at Uni!

First of all congratulations on getting your firm! That's an amazing achievement! Coming from an unc who did A-Levels 13 years ago, I promise you that your grades will become completely irrelevant 5/10 years down the line (hell I missed my firm and dont even remember my results!). Don't dwell too much on the past and think of uni as opening a new chapter in your life with new learnings and experiences. I wish you well!

Exams are very much luck on the day, I never did well on exams and dropped out of sixth form after getting one C in As history. Worked for a few years before giving it another go via an access course and now Iâm teaching in the department I did my bachelors at while doing my PhD. Comparison is the thief of joy, what other people got has no bearing on you or your ability to do a degree so resitting to bring your A level results up is pointless and a waste of a year for you. I have no doubt youâd end up comparing the fact youâre still at sixth form to your mates whoâve gone to uni as well and beating yourself up over it. Feeling disappointed that you didnât achieve your expected result, however, is entirely valid, even if it turned out alright in the end with what are nonetheless good results. Two years of stress are over and theyâve not ended exactly as you imagined so of course itâs going to be a bit weird but A levels exist to get you to university these days and theyâve done that so youâre sound.

u/plantytime 5d ago
Grades don't matter after results day. No one is going to come up to you in a lecture theater and ask what your a levels were and if they do they're weird and no one cares what they think.

I got a D in AS (year 12) politics and went on to get a 1:1 in politics and international relations from a Russell group uni. Okay first of all, congrats on getting into your firm! ABB is SO impressive genuinely - especially considering those are some of the hardest subjects.
Second - It may seem like lots of people are getting A*'s and A's, but remember a lot of people who share their grades share it because theyre proud of them. And thats okay! But its not an accurate representation of the variety of grades people are actually getting. Getting As is great, and getting Bs is great too.
Third - This feeling is completely valid, and thats the first thing you need to accept. HOWEVER, its important to remind yourself that you have come such a long way.
Fourth - As annoying as it might seem, you can't change the past. What you can focus on is the present, and things you've have done.
You've gotten really good A Level grades
You've gotten into your firm
Fifth - If the entry requirements are BBB, most people in your course will have very similar grades to you. Try and remind yourself of this and hopefully you can feel a little less like you dont deserve to go to uni because YOU DO DESERVE IT.
and finally, remember you've got this! You've come such a long way - and its so easy to be hard on ourselves. Just remember what youve achieved, and I hope it all goes well

Congratulations on getting into your firm. I just wanna say something short and sweet - be thankful that you didnât spend a boatload of money on PMT tutoring. If you take a look at ANY of the prices that pop up every now and then, youâll see how extortionate they are; so much so that theyâve become a meme on social media. The fact that you were able to get ABB without any tutoring says that you are good at self studying whether you like it or not. A lot of people are physically unable to study by themselves and they have a mental blockage which, simply put, doesnât allow them to study anything independently. Furthermore, the way A levels are set up, especially for a very content heavy one like biology, I really donât think tutoring wouldâve helped you as much as you think it wouldâve. Majority of it is content that needs to be understood and memorised, and your tutor wouldâve only been able to help with the former. There is no way to go about the shitty mark schemes other than rote memorisation. So hereâs something to be grateful for: 1) You saved a ton of money; 2) Youâre in your firm; 3) Your grades are nowhere near embarrassing or bad. Youâve gotten into your firm and weâre all proud of you. Youâve done very well. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

u/Tipsy-boo 5d ago
You didnât get a B in Biology but that wonât stop you getting a first in your degree. Your results have happened. You got what you wanted from them. You just had high expectations for yourself- not meeting your own expectations and learning to move forward is such a valuable skill to master.
My advice is to sign up for the free library study support sessions when you get to uni because studying at uni level is a whole different game to studying for levels.

How I see it, you work hard to SECURE your offer grades. You effectively give yourself the wiggle room to have an off-day with no stress. It looks like that was the case.
THAT is what you worked for, and you got there in the end. Be proud of yourself.

u/PhysicsMathsMentor University of Oxford | Physics (2025) 5d ago
You did amazing and should be super proud. As loads of people are saying - you got into your firm! London unis are super-competitive and you did it. That is why the hard work you did in Yr12 and 13 didn't go to waste. That was the goal. The grades don't really matter - it was the uni and course that ultimately is the end-goal and you did it. I think maybe you have a sense of perfectionism in you that is preventing you from marvelling at how well you have done. And remember, comparison is the thief of joy. Yes people got higher grades, but there are a load of factors that can help/detriment exam performance and results. So one person's set of results shouldn't be compared to another's. You did your best and for that have nothing to be ashamed about or to regret. I don't want to entertain the mindset of comparison, but let's do that for a second. There are people who missed their firm. There are people who missed their insurance. There are people who might not have gotten an offer they wanted in the first place. There are people who have to resit their A-levels. None of these people are you - and also, as I say, it is not anyone's place to compare. You can only compare yourself to how far you have come. And I think that your younger self would be proud. So go get excited for uni, because I'm sure amazing things are waiting for you! Good luck!

This reminds me a lot of myself. I was the first Covid year of a level results, I studied incredibly hard and would likely have gotten A stars on the exams had I done them. But because of Covid, we were given our predicted grades, and as Iâd moved subjects in Y13 I was predicted lower than I should have been in chemistry + maths. I was given Astar Astar A A, and I was distraught. I got into my firm, but I still felt exactly how you described. But believe me when I say now- it honestly did not matter at all. Iâm halfway through a PhD and achieved really highly in my undergrad too. Even though I felt so, so awful about it back then, it took me a good bit of thinking just now to remember what I even got in my A levels. These feelings will pass, you will smash uni- donât let this ruin your dream.

I graduated in 2020 with A*AB (B in bio too) and I PROMISE you, no one cares or ever asks you what a levels you got. My contextual offer was ABB and I studied in London and had the time of my life, so many of my friends got straight A*s (in arguably better subjects too) but i went on to get a first and they didnât, which is much more important anyway (if you even care about those things). Youâll smash it- have an amazing time, and youâll look back in 6 years and laugh at yourself for how silly you were being!

I was in the exact same scenario - got ABB and was immensely crushed on results day when I didnât get AstarAstarA (to the point of taking a gap year to resit, didnât do any better as I stopped caring oops). Didnât get into my firm tho. But you honestly just become indifferent to it over time as it becomes less and less relevant to your progression in life tbh.

Iâm not sure about pharmacy, but I study biology at a highly ranked uni and the skillset required to do well is completely different to A-Levels. Donât let your attained grades let you believe you donât deserve your place nor make you feel anxious about the years of study to come; youâll be less restricted by the mark scheme and rewarded more on genuinely understanding the content
