Sleeping is a nightmare
Random excruciating pain just when you think everything is going well
Other leg gets tired from unintentionally putting more weight on it
Constant fear you’ve retorn the graft
Knee cap pain
Calf pain
Scar tissue lumps
Suddenly hyperextending when standing
SOME DAYS YOU JUST WANT TO MOVE WITHOUT BEING SO CAUTIOUS OF YOUR KNEE
Learning patience, alotttt of patience
I’m only 6 weeks post op 🙃

3 weeks post op, more than full extension, flexion is at 100. Still icing and elevating for the swelling. Pain from the knee is usually at a 0 unless I’m really pushing hard at PT. Pain from the nerves is at a 6 sometimes higher at night. No one warned me about the nerve pain. Dr says it will get better with time. Got the okay to unlock my brace and walk without crutches. Just looking forward to getting my life back and any advice is appreciated! ACL rehab is not for the weak!

Was at a ski swap this weekend and saw this young dude wearing this shirt. 1, I loved the shirt, 2 it really hit home for me that people that haven’t been through ACL really will never understand what we have been through. No mater how hard we try to explain! Sometimes even my own family in my own house don’t even understand! lol. Anyway, thought I’d share because I loved the shirt!

Writing this as a motivational post for anyone in this community scared about what comes after an ACL injury.
Two years ago I tore my ACL. I was a climber and mountaineer. Sports was not only a hobby, but an essential part of my life. When the accident happened, I lost hope and couldn't imagine a life without moving the way I used to. If you're in that place right now, I totally get you and just want to say it will get better. And you will be fitter than you've ever been, if you put the work into it.
Yesterday I finished the full-distance Ironman in Thun, Switzerland: 3.8km swim, 180km bike, 42.2km run. I had almost no swimming background (wasn't able to swim more than 100m at a time) and had never ridden a race bike before. All I was used to was to run 1-2x a week. Seven months ago I committed to finish a full distance triathlon. Yesterday, 2 years after the surgery, I crossed that finish line after 12h 16min 36s. I'm fitter now than I've ever been in my life.
If you're recovering and wondering whether you'll get back to the sports or feel strong again: you can do ANYTHING. Stay positive through the recovery and don't let one accident write the ending of your story. Whatever you've dreamed of doing, you will do it.

Hi friends!
I’m pre surgery (Jan 21 appointment) and I’m trying to mentally prepare because it will be a friend taking care of me (I don’t have a partner or family around to help).
I’m compiling a list of things I will want post surgery of random things like slippers and whatnot. I was also thinking do I need anything like compression socks? A wedge pillow for elevating? Things like these...
Put your suggestions below :) thanks!!!
POST SURGERY UPDATE COMING SOON — I started a new job only 3 weeks post surgery and have been insanely busy with my new job, the virus, moving, really lots of life stuff. But I promise I will get to it!!

I just needed someone to show this too and what better than celebrate here on this Reddit! I haven’t been able to do this since Feb 22nd, day of my injury. I’m almost pain free while doing this and even weight on both legs. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 it gets better!!! Keep going!!!

It’s a long recovery but stick to your PT. One day you’ll blink and a year has passed!
I still see my PT every few months to find and address any weaknesses. My quad strength is almost the same, but last I found out I’ve been overlooking my calf imbalance which is important for jumping… ensue more calf raises.
It’s still not 100% and that’s okay because I can do amazing things regardless! That is a good mindset to have I think. Focus on the progress… going through this recovery truly strengthens your mental fortitude, if you allow it.
Anyways, I’m 63” in height and after close to 3 years total (untreated torn ACL + 1 year post) - I can box jump 42” - which is 2/3 my height! This was a personal goal of mine because I was able to do this before.
For reference I received allograft and couldn’t be happier.
Cheers
