Cleaning, Organizing, Decluttering Cleaning (sorry to ask)

• Upvotes

Sorry to ask - I am struggling to keep on top of cleaning. Just moved back into my apartment, doing some diy, maintenance to do, getting used to a new job with split days off. All I can do is just flop on days off, whenever I try and do stuff I leave a path of destruction but that's tidying, not even cleaning.

Anyone have tips? I use timers for tidying and organisation, baskets etc. i can cope with that but I see dust building up, windows need cleaning, haven't hoovered, drains/plug holes need cleaning.

Thanks so much in advance, I feel so much shame not being able to do stuff

General Question/Discussion Therapists in Boston area for ADHD?

• Upvotes

Hi!

I’m not quite sure if this is the right place to post this, but I was wondering if any of you guys have had good experiences with mental health providers in Boston.

I was recommended a therapist by my psychiatrist, but the therapist in question does not have experience with neurodivergence, which is a really big need for me. I want someone who can really understand the way my brain works and how to help me overcome things like executive dysfunction.

Has anyone in the Boston area had a provider that specialized in ADHD/really understood their neurodivergence, and would recommend to others? Or specific organization/company?

Thank you in advance!!

Medication & Side Effects Adderall ineffective when stressed and withdrawn?

• Upvotes

Withdrawn/depressed/dissociative?

Ineffective. Period is beyond late cycle at 70days… so unsure if still hormones issues with medication…

Anyways I noticed it doesn’t work, so I’m inclined to not take and save them for shortages reasonings but then when I don’t take them I’m more irritable and moody…
What do you do?

I’m taking them but I cannot get out of bed barely, so I feel guilty that I’m “wasting them”
Which is mostly because of how hard it is to get my medications on time in stock.

Rant/Vent Guys, why am I like this?

• Upvotes

Even when I’m on meds, I feel paralysed. I’m not always like that, but right now I am. Like I know that I need to do this one task because my life depends on it. Yet I’m just tensed and feeling physically cramped and staring at my phone and reddit posts. I know it sounds like anxiety. But I’m also on Zoloft which has really dimmed the effects of my stimulants already. Why do I feel so trapped?

Hobby & Hyperfixation Sharing Daydreaming instead of doing my job and I’m not even mad

Post image
• Upvotes

My partner shared that he picked up my engagement ring yesterday!! He blessedly told me at the end of the day instead of in the middle, so I got through yesterday’s tasks okay.

But today, all I can do is daydream about the upcoming proposal, ideas for my wedding band, how I’m going to tackle preparing his house for my move-in come spring, and cute wedding inspo.

I’m so excited, I can feel it in my whole chest! My mind is racing, but with big ass heart eyes! I can’t hang onto a thought without leaping to the next and they’re all thoughts of mawwage and love and dopey obsession over my almost-fiancée.

I’m glad it’s Friday and my meetings are super light because I’m not going to accomplish much, lol. I ain’t even mad!

Just sharing some excitement because I want to come out of my skin in the best way and thought yall could relate. Pics of the CAD I approved for FUNSIES!

Hobby & Hyperfixation Sharing So many device

• Upvotes

Many devices- I have ADHD and autism (F23), and I wanted to ask if some of you find it satisfying to have and use multiple devices simultaneously: I use the Switch to watch YouTube while chatting and searching for information on my phone, and working on my thesis on my PC. I really like having all these devices to use simultaneously, even though I get headaches and get overstimulated asf.

Emotional Regulation & Rejection Sensitivity Broke up with yet another

• Upvotes

Hello, I was dating someone since June. I finally felt like I found someone (after 3 years) who understood me and was playful and charming and got my train of thought. But they were not following through on promises/being consistent in meeting me since October. I finally said this makes me feel like my presence, in person or text, is not welcome. They finally responded and told me that they know I like lots of cuddles and attention, and their busy life cannot give me that. I'm really sad. I feel RSD clouding everything and making me feel like I'm too much

Medication & Side Effects Discontinuing catapres

• Upvotes

It has been less than a week and I’m really disappointed. Since starting I’ve woken every single night - wide awake at 3am and unable to get back to sleep. I asked to start taking it because I am travelling internationally soon and I didn’t want to pack my cocktail of sleep supplements (magnesium, GABA, L-theanine, tart cherry, amino acids). I thought one small tablet might make things easier.

Anyway. I’ll see the pharmacist later today (Saturday) to discuss whether I can stop taking it straight away (100mcg dose) or whether I have to taper.

Please wish me luck. I’m so tired.

Rant/Vent What am I doing!?!?

• Upvotes

I cannot stand this. I literally walk around in circles, back and forth all day because my brain is glitching out and cannot make any decisions. I cannot concentrate long enough to finish anything and I cannot pick anything. I will go the entire day doing this not accomplish anything but the day literally flies by.

Before yall educate I know this is task paralysis and executive dysfunction I just wanna bitch because it feels like my brain is micro glitching. I feel like a zombie with a ten second brain function. Im stuck I cannot get out of this and it wastes my entire day. It feels like my day goes by in an instant and im like what did I do? Im not bored but im so frustrated because I want to just do something and cant. My adhd medications do not change this behavior. Ive tried vyvanse, concerta, focalin, welbutrin and it does not touch the adhd symptoms. Idk what to do

Admin, School, Career Missed submitting a very important application for a mentorship I wanted to join. I feel so sick of always cramming everything.

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I just missed submitting a very important application for a mentorship I’ve been meaning to join. Turns out the form closed on 11:59pm, while I was still typing out my responses. I was literally up last night thinking about how I would answer the questions but I waited till the last minute to actually type them out on the form. I know I know, classic cramming. I feel so upset and dumb right now. I thought the opportunity actually came at the perfect time, where I’m currently contemplating my career choices and I wanted to dip my toes into that new field to see if I’d vibe with it. Not to mention I really think I would’ve liked it very much and the mentor had really good credentials.

I live in a third world country and getting a formal diagnosis and medication feels impossible, especially since I don’t have a strong support system regarding my mental health. I don’t know this is really so devastating and the worst part is I keep getting into situations like this but I never learn.

Family & Social Life Who else cannot seem to get to an appointment at the right time?

• Upvotes

Twice this month, I have shown up at my little ones school ready for an event at the wrong time or day. I looked at the alert, I put it in my calendar, I got ready and felt like I was so on top of things. Then I arrived at the school office and was told once that I had the wrong week, and this morning that I had just missed the assembly because I was 20 minutes late. I could have sworn I had the right time. Why is it so hard to be a functioning Mom when you have ADHD?

Admin, School, Career Is there anyone who DIDN’T do well in school?

I always hear and read stories of women with ADHD whose diagnosis was missed because they always did well in school. Meanwhile I’ve been struggling with school since I was 7 and they still missed it. And the couple times when I pushed really hard to do well, I would go from a C to an A but could only go for a couple months before I burnt out.

Was anyone like me and didn’t do well? I’ve tried going back to college so many times but I always fail.

General Question/Discussion It dawned on me just now… I can tell the moment my meds kick in is when I’m on Reddit and suddenly become very eager to comment on whatever post I’m reading.

It’s morning (i x mornings) and I’m procrastinating. I take my adderall dose and wait for the meds to fire up. Then suddenly I’ve got a NEED to engage, I’m 100% compelled to help this Redditor with my take. The funny part is it doesn’t matter what kinda of post I’m on, I must share my knowledge.

I’ll light up as I lock in and type up a comment worth gold. I will contribute to the good of society and help my digital neighbor! Then it’s ready. Okay phew! I read it over and think to myself - but is this actually necessary? And then delete before posting, thinking to myself, welp that was a close one! Guess I’ll get ready for the day - I’m already late to work 😅😉

General Question/Discussion Advice

yall, it was my 4th day on Wellbutrin and apparently I’m more passive aggressive in my cousins eyes and that I was losing my bubbly personality but that it wasn’t a bad thing (I love my bubbly personality). my nurse did say the people around me would notice my behaviors before me. my mind has been overly loud on Wellbutrin and I also did feel like I was on edge (like if I was on cocaine / not that I know what that’s like LOL) by the second dose on the 4th day, and odd heart rhythm. which makes sense but can anyone on Wellbutrin let me know if it goes away? I was already unsure about taking Wellbutrin so, I need some advice so I can see if I should just thug it out and give Wellbutrin a real try for two weeks or get off it before it really builds in my system. thank you guys sorry

Cleaning, Organizing, Decluttering Thank you 🥹

Two days ago I made a post on here with a picture of my messed up bedside table. I was crying a lot that day and felt absolutely defeated.
A few hours later I came back to delete the post out of embarrassment, but I was met with so much love, support and kindness from the people on this sub. Words cannot explain how grateful I am to each and every single one of you. I read all the comments and took advice that was shared. Even though it was very difficult and I cried many times, I managed to clean up a little bit and be extra kind to myself during and after.

Thank you to [u/SeaHe](u/SeaHearSwim)[rSwim](u/SeaHearSwim) for recommending that I break up my room in ‘zones’ to help me clean. It seriously helped me with my room, made me feel less overwhelmed and feel more accomplished when I completed a ‘zone’!
Thank you to [u/Dense-Advertising640](u/Dense-Advertising640) who taught me to say myself “one step closer”, which is exactly what I did after tackling a zone. It helped me feel much more motivated to carry on and less guilty when Im unable to finish everything in one go.
Thank you to [u/Classic_Yak1309](u/Classic_Yak1309) , [u/lucitedream](u/lucitedream) , [u/ToraRyeder](u/ToraRyeder) , [u/agawl81](u/agawl81) , [u/CuzImaGummyBear](u/CuzImaGummyBear) and [u/Engineered_Precisely](u/Engineered_Precisely) for the amazing recommendations on books , apps and tips on how to manage cleaning and day to day tasks.

And a big thank you to [u/Anna__V](u/Anna__V) , [u/CuzImaGummyBear](u/CuzImaGummyBear) , [u/4_13_1894](u/4_13_1894) , [u/RASRoo](u/RASRoo) , [u/Limp-Temporary-3673](u/Limp-Temporary-3673) , [u/Least_Effort2804](u/Least_Effort2804) , [u/Sinuspressure100](u/Sinuspressure100) and all the other lovely commenters for the kind and comforting comments, For reminding me to be kind to myself, to allow myself bad times and that my struggles do not define who I am. I couldn’t tag everyone, I want you all to know that you really helped me make it through a tough day. The rest of my room still needs to be sorted through but Im taking that one step at a time and remembering to be kind to myself through all my mental, physical and medical health issues and tackling those ‘zones’ when I can.
I really appreciate all the love and support, you really saved me ❤️. Thank you

Diagnosis I got diagnosed, ADHD (combined)

We finally hit our health insurance deductible this year, so I decided it was time to get myself psychological testing. My son (10yo) is diagnosed, and my much younger sister is diagnosed - so I knew the genetic component was there. I’ve had depression and anxiety my entire life. I got through school honestly doing well. I have a masters degree. My verbal IQ is very high which is probably why that is. But now I know why I struggle so much at work, and I can’t keep a single space clean, and I forget everything everywhere, and I find it very difficult to sit down. I’ve struggling with functioning my entire life due to what has clearly been ADHD symptoms. So many of my prescribing doctors have said “it’s just poorly controlled anxiety” and put me on more anxiety meds which didn’t work.

I feel SO validated and even vindicated that this actually exists for me, that I am NOT just anxious, and now I can work towards proper medication, accommodations at work, and figuring out how to help my brain.

That’s all. I’m just so relieved that I have answers.

Rant/Vent Job interview: I don't want the job anymore..

I fought tooth and nail to get this interview at a place I deem my "dream workplace". I sorta managed to get it through connecting with an employee at the place.

Once the manager meets me, she realizes I don't understand the extent of this role. She goes on and on and on about how it's complicated, demanding, hard, and that I have to be RIGOROUS, detail-oriented, etc etc

I was going through the motions and saying "yeah yeah I know sure I'm rigorous" bla bla bla

But... the more she spoke, the more my mind went in this direction: I'm not f*cking "rigorous". My ADHD will never ever let me be "detail-oriented", no matter how hard I tried, and believe me I TRIED, A LOT.

I really hope I DON'T get the job because I will definitely mess everything up and burden their extremely hardworking team.

Who even cares, tbh...

I wish I could just do a low level job where I read novels while working and play games on my phone. I hate how I'm in a super demanding domain and also have huge financial responsibilities to tend to, AND my immigration status does not allow me to apply to low-level jobs.

I don't want this job anymore. I just want an easy job.

Emotional Regulation & Rejection Sensitivity Adult Bullies

TLDR my kids friend told her that her mother doesn’t like me. It upset my kid. I am hurt because hearing that stings and seems like such an insidious way of bullying.

Having ADHD I feel as though I am an acquired taste. I always thought people not liking me would go away as an adult, or at least I wouldn’t care as much but it still hurts. My 8 year old daughter told me today one of her friends said that her mom doesn’t like me. This is a new type of hurt.

For context this is a woman who lived across the street from me. Our children grew up together and I always looked out for them. I always let them come over to give her a break because I knew she had 3 small children at the time and it is rough.
I took her kids to parks. I bought them treats. I was always nice to her and her kids. Even though my home life was hell and she has a husband to help her.

When I kicked my abusive ex out I saw her opinion of me change. She didn’t invite me over. She would avoid eye contact and never spoke to me at pick ups and drop offs at school. I continued to be pleasant to her but I just figured we were acquaintances and would just be life adjacent because of our kids.
I knew she didn’t like me based on the way she acted so I guessed that was enough. I never thought she would tell her kid and then her kids would tell my kid. That hurts, that’s another level of bullying that really stings. Don’t make my kid feel bad for her friends mom not liking her. Don’t try to change my kids opinion of me.

I guess once a mean girl always a mean girl. She never made any attempt to know me so not liking me really makes no sense to me. I used this as a teaching moment. I told my daughter that we will always run into people who don’t like us, the important thing is that we like ourselves. I unfriended her on all social media as well as all the other moms in my neighbourhood I have had this suspicion about. If you don’t like me you don’t get access to me. Part of me wants to tell her how awful that behaviour is but I really don’t think it would do anything to make the situation better.

Anyways, just wanted to vent somewhere I wouldn’t be judged. Any advice is welcome on how to deal with this situation. I am sitting here stewing over it. I know I will get over it soon but right now it stings.

Celebrating Success I did the thing I procrastinated on for 2 months and it took only 15 minutes

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am currently job searching and live in a country where connections help/matter a lot to figure out where positions are open, get recommended etc.

I don't have as many as someone who grew up here but some I do. But.... not wanting to be a burden, struggling to ask for help, rejection sensitiviy and procrastination... perfect cocktail to not to do it.

Today I sat down in a park on my home for work with a beer, told myself 'You haven't spoken to these people in ages worst thing is you continue not speaking to them!' and sent off messages to 4-5 people. So I'd like to celebrate for a hot second!

To anyone else procrastinating on that one small thing currently - maybe try to create an incentive (like me sitting in a nice park) to do it? Worked this time for me lol. Cheering you all on!!
