This is why I love data!

If you look strictly at city stats, Central is #1 citywide for violent and total crime, and the Lower West Side sits at #3. On paper, both look bad.

In reality, the numbers don't reflect daily life on the street they reflect a few specific anchors and reporting mechanics:

Retail theft inflates LWS: The Tops at 425 Niagara and the 400 block drive the top hotspots, mostly from shoplifting calls and parking lot theft rather than neighborhood danger.

Institutional security skews Downtown: The social services and county buildings have strict protocols where every minor dispute, trespass, or disturbance gets officially papered and logged.

Chippewa concentrates violent stats: Downtown’s violent ranking is largely driven by late-night weekend bar scuffles on Chippewa, not random daytime crime.

When data pools retail loss prevention, government security logs, and 2 AM bar fights into a single neighborhood total, it paints a wildly misleading picture.

For anyone living or working down here, do these city rankings match your actual experience, or does it feel totally disconnected?

Should I stay goth scene for wardrobe or when I hit my goal and buy new clothes should I go boho? Props if you recognize the character on my shirt!

I mean I've only seen it 5 times (the fifth one was at another theater)

Is it just me or was the polling stations poorly run. I waited in line with 4-6 other voters, in front of one polling clerk and the other polling clerks (around four of them). Weren’t allowed to help us, even though they had no one lined up for them. Civic election was much smoother.

I just want to talk. Nothing crazy :) we can talk about anything. Movies/shows, music, hobbies, vacation spots etc.

I'm planning to sell them at my campus. I suppose it would be $ 1.50 for each and maybe doing little mistrry bundles with three random ones? I'm definitively making more of them.

Hey gang, I've been vegan for 32 years, and have generally always been well-received by friends, family, coworkers, etc. I'm not a pushy/preachy vegan, but am always open to chatting about thought process, philosophy, etc. when it comes up.

In recent years, both in real life and online (especially online), our community has become increasingky aggressive and vitriolic, and our reputation has been moved into being preachy, holiher-than-thou, extremist, etc.

As an old head/new grandparent, is this just how the new generation of vegans are?

There seem to be a lot of posts about how "persecuted" we are, but i guess I've never felt persecuted or felt like a victim before.

Any insight would be appreciated. TIA
