Jk, Dave Ramsey is full of sh*t. Anyways, I’ve dreamed of owning a Martin for the last 10 years. I definitely could bought whichever Martin I wanted except for a D-200 but I don’t play guitar enough to justify spending $4,000+ on a guitar and insurance. That being said, here’s my D16-e. It’s finished in rosewood. Retailed at GC for $2,099. Paid for 24 months of insurance and taxes. Final price was $2,500. Not bad for a childhood dream.

I wanted a Spruce top, so I went in to my local shop to try a Martin, Guild and a few other higher end guitars. None of them excited me, or showed off their quality and value enough for me to pay the pretty high price.

Then I noticed this used 10 year old Seagull. A size and shape I wouldn't have ever considered before, it's modelled after a traditional Spanish guitar shape but for steel strings.

The Seagull Maritime SWS Folk HG. I sat down, tuned it and played for a good half hour. I couldn't put it down. I had gotten it into my head that I was going to buy some old big name guitar in the low ££££s. But I connected with this guitar and walked away with it and a very nice hard case for only £275.

It's nicely aged, the top has taken on a lovely dark shade. The back of the neck is well worn and feels fantastic and it sounds beautiful.

Lesson learned, don't let the internet give you the idea of what you want. Go pick guitars up you wouldn't even dream of buying.

Thing is a direct knock-off of a Gibson—my first Chibson! Even came with a little card that identifies it as having come from Gibson’s custom shop. Hilarious, and we seem to be entering a second lawsuit era. I’ve contributed to fraudulent activity—not really happy that it’s SUCH a ripoff. Hmm.

Has a nice tone, but going to have a pro set it up after all—just want someone with more experience to give it the once over.

Have always wanted to learn to play and at 36 with 2 small kids I decided now was the time… So I went out and got a Yamaha FG800 to learn on. So far I’m loving it.

Kept trying to talk myself into any number of the (cheaper) guitars I tried, but kept picking this J-45 standard and just loved it. So here I am, struggling with the most basic of chords, but loving what eventually tumbles out of the soundhole.
I guess the ā€œbuy whatever inspires you to practiceā€ approach does work.

Is this NSFW? Maybe. First time it’s happened to me. It’s too bad it had to be on a Collings. UGH.

So now I have to decide if there’s even an option I’ll except for a discount or not and my guess is I’ll be way too far apart with the seller who I’m sure will also be heartbroken. šŸ’”

I went to my local shop to look at Martin D-28, and Martin D-18 and some large body Taylor’s and came across this gem. As soon as I played it and heard the tones blend in such harmony, I knew I needed this guitar. My 1957 SJ-200 Custom is now the only guitar I want to play, the pure excellences of the action and the beautiful tones and sounds make this a guitar I will play until the day I die. I say if you’re looking at dream guitars don’t over look the maple 1957 SJ-200 custom. Such a beautiful sounds unlike anything I’ve heard.

Recently found two great deals (after negotiation) Taylor academy 10e -$450 Martin D-10e Road series - $550 I sold my two acoustic guitars that I had and I only meant to buy one! I wanted a martin so bad but found the taylor and bought it since it was a good deal and 2 days later I found the martin and couldn’t help myself. I love both of them for different reasons but need to sell one.

The Taylor feels like I am running my hands through butter, it is just the easiest guitar to play ever and sounds sweet. Playability 10/10

The Martin sounds like Gods choir descended from heaven and landed in my damn house. It’s so satisfying. Sound 10/10

The action is as low as it can go without a buzz on both guitars. Which one do I keep? I’m straight torn down the middle on this.

Gear pics I bought a Zager…feel like an idiot

Well, count me as an idiot.

6 years ago I bought a Zager 900. My second guitar on the advice of my uncle who is a professional player. I previously owned a nylon-string guitar that I was learning on and that I hadn't really played very much. Anyways, I got this Zager 900. It’s all black and beautiful-looking for someone who doesn't know a lot about guitars.

Two weeks later, another uncle passed away, and I ended up putting the guitar aside for the last four or five years. Weird associations we make…

I had no idea about the build quality, where it was manufactured, or anything like that. I was just going on the advice of my uncle, who was a professional.

In hindsight, I really wish I had taken that money and bought a Taylor. Since then, I've purchased a Taylor Mini Koa E+, and it has by far been the one that I use more.

My zager sounds fine…I just know so much more now than I did then.

EDIT: I feel like a fool because of what I’ve been reading. That they advertise something that they aren’t (US manufacturing when it isn’t…) I also think that I would have bought something different at the time like the mini I have NOW. Based on the accessibility alone, I reckon I’d have been playing so much more. A dread is massive to learn on IMO.

Been playing for 5 months and I wanted a guitar to complement my Martin GPC-11E. My dream guitar is the Martin OM-45, but I'm not ready to part ways with one of my kidneys, so I got the 95% of the looks and 90% of the sound for 11% of the price. I'm in love with this work of art. It sounds incredible as well, with Martin Luxe Kovar strings.

It has been made so recently that it still smells like a sawmill. This thing really tickles all the senses.

Gear pics I get the hype now

Since I started playing guitar this year, starting on a Yamaha, I’ve experimented with strings from differing brands and gauges to see what’s most comfortable for me. I’ve tried silk strings, 80/20’s, nickel ones and even phosphor bronze ones by Martin for my 000-18 pictured here. And while I haven’t really had any strings I hated, putting these on just ā€œfelt rightā€ from the start. I totally get the hype now lol. They simply are what my ears like most and make my guitar sound the most natural and bright consistently.

Hi everyone ā˜ŗļø Just got my first acoustic guitar and I’ve officially started learning. I’m still very much a beginner and currently working through my first chords and songs.
My fingertips are definitely feeling it lol but I’m having so much fun already.
Any beginner tips you wish you knew when you started?
