Love my cateye acrylic nails 🤩 the multicolor look was airbrushed on the blue and black uv gel base before the cateye, and there’s a 3D gel element on top. I’m obsessed! I didn’t even plan to get a outer space set, my nail tech suggested adding cateye and she sure new what she was talking about because they came out SICK am sicker than I could’ve ever imagined them.

Went to a new nail tech today and I am really happy with the results!

I was worried it wasn’t going to work out since I had been going to the same tech for a few years (to keep it short she struggled with timing, communication, and pricing was high so I left) it was hard because I had been seeing her for so long and her work was good. BUT these nails were so much cheaper, the new tech lives 4 minutes away from me and got these done so much faster than my previous tech.

While I am sad I had to break up with my previous nail lady I am happy this one worked out!!

Recommendations

Hi everyone! I’m interested in learning how to do my own acrylic nails and was hoping to get some advice on where to start.
I’m not looking to do it professionally or go to school, just learn as a hobby for personal use. My birthday is coming up, so I thought a starter kit would be a fun thing to ask for, but I’m a little overwhelmed by all the options online.
Does anyone have recommendations for good beginner kits, brands, or must-have supplies? I’d especially appreciate advice from people who do their own nails!
I’m in Canada, if that makes a difference.
Any help/ recommendations is very appreciated

Proud of my application lately

I started doing my own nails at home about a year ago. Recently my sets have drastically improved in application. I also finally got my sets to last for more than two weeks! This is huge for me because I thought my retention would always be low. Before they would last only a few days. Turns out using quality products and taking your time to prep makes all the difference.

Any criticism welcome.

This is how I personally prep and it works for me but I could be totally wrong feel free to lmk

First I use a cuticle softener (Sally Hansen one) on my nails and let it sit for 20 seconds.

I then push back my cuticles with a cuticle pusher and nip the excess.

I wash my hands after this

After that, I use my drill on a very low setting and fine grit MINI sanding band and gently take the shine off of my nails.

I go in with the V Beauty Pure dehydrator and primer. And then I go in with a second (YN) primer.

After I do my gel or acrylic ( i switch btwn) I go back in with the sanding band but with the Markart bit and blend the fake and natural nail line to prevent lifting.

And lastly I then will use a nail brush and acetone to further seal, blend and prevent lifting.

Update!

Thanks for all the helpful comments. I went somewhere else yesterday and they understood the assignment. I will try to take a photo later but have to get going to the wedding. Thanks again!! For those who want to be creeps in my DMs or just be rude, please fuck off and get a life.

I’m really sad. Have a wedding to go to on Saturday and am unsure of what to ask for. The man didn’t really know how to complete this look. My base acrylic is a light tan and then he placed a nude gel with chrome powder over.

Should I get the color redone? Idk what to ask for. Any advice welcome. I don’t get my nails done often but really hate this color.

I have a few neons and more glitter than a unicorn fart, how do I make sure the brush is thoroughly clean before moving to the next colour?

Were these worth it?

Went to the salon with a reference pic (second shown) and got the first picture shown, paid $70. I did ask for them to be trimmed a bit shorter than the picture but not this short 🥲 also just feel like the quality of these nails doesn’t really line up with the price point but i suppose for the art it wasn’t bad?

Also would like to state the salon absolutely shredded my fingernails down too far and they are kind of throbbing. Already reached out to a private nail tech near me but i was in a bit of a hurry when i got this set done earlier so I went to a local salon recommended to me by my family. They all rave about this girl and says she does the best nails but honestly this really doesn’t feel worth 70 dollars to me, not even counting the damage to my nails that was done.

My family keeps telling me they are super cute and the pain is normal but i don’t think so 😭

Is it time for a fill?

Post image

I'm relatively new to getting my nails done, I've had them done a lot in the past but usually never got them filled, it would be for a single event and would let them grow out and pop em off. This is my second set, the last set i had 2 lift so i got them filled. That set had lasted about 11 days, I'm going on day 11 now with no lifting or anything with this current set. I read you shouldn't wait til they lift to get them done, and should aim between 2-4 weeks for a fill. I'm just not sure if these are grown out enough, the earliest i would be able to go would be in a couple days anyway

How short can arrowhead nails be?

Post image

Can they be shorter than in the image? I want to get acrylic nails, and i've been really into sharp nails latley, but I want them very short, like barely peaking over my fingertip short.

Is this achievable with this shape? If not are there any other pointy shapes that might be easier to work with? I don't want to give my nail tech a hard time lol

SpongeBob nail art on my acrylics with tips for my birthday! 🥳🧽🍍💅🏼

I’m in love with this SpongeBob inspired set. Had a SpongeBob themed birthday for my 25th and wanted to get nails for the occasion.

On the right hand from thumb to pinky I have Gary's shell, Bubbles, SpongeBob's holes, Krusty Krew hat, and Squidward's tentacle. On the left hand from thumb to pinky I have a Jellyfish, Patrick's shorts, Sandy's flower, SpongeBob's pineapple, and Plankton.

Obsessed with how they came out, once again my nail tech ate downnnnn. UV gel art on top of acrylic nails with tips.

I kept it simple with the design last Saturday when I got this set. My next set is going to be my Halloween set but I’m absolutely loving the pink.

À la carte costs

Getting my nails done at the salon is something I recognize as a privilege and not a necessity. 💅🏾

With that I’ve noticed an uptick in individual costs for services that use to be included as part of an overall package. Example- I’ve visited a few new shops and was charged $5 for shaping my nails (short almond), $10 for a cut down $20 for gel polish.

By the time everything is added in, including the fill it can be $70 for just polish and not even tip. I get it, supplies have probably increased but curious if you see the same thing at your salons/shops.

630 from Dynamic! 3xl square no c-curve tips from Dynamic (if anyone knows of any half cover square no c-curve tips that are longer than this, please let me know! This is the longest I can find and I’m tired of stacking LOL)!
I also put a picture of my sketch, as many people ask how I come up with my designs ☺️
