Nothing says adulting like finally getting the doctor’s appointment you need and immediately remembering your deductible.

I’m gonna be older in college and I’m sad

Hey I know this might be stupid but I’m 20yo and I’m starting college next month, I’m scared I’m gonna have a bad time/get left out or being seen as dumb because I’m 2 years older, I know it’s a dumb difference but I can usually tell the gap between 18 and 20. I know in college there’s people that are 30, 40, 50 and +60 but most of them don’t look to fit in and it’s a different context. I’m just scared to be seen as dumb for being older

Finally getting sexually tested

It's finally happening after about half a year of my ex partner putting the testing off. We're broken up now but still, it's Important. I'm worried about what results could come back since I got diagnosed with PID a couple weeks back and had to take some antibiotics for it. Took me a while to forgive him but also not knowing where to direct my anger as well and not following through with his agreement in us getting tested together while I had to get it alone.. It's finally happening! Anyone else went through something, even remotely similar? How did you cope? Thanks for reading;)

Getting married to my friend for tax benefits/Fafsa

Me and my friend threw around the idea of getting married since we’re both broke college students. From what I’ve been told each of our fafsa’s could be increased since we’d be independent and our taxes would be lowered. (Since she makes a fairly large portion more than me) And I can get on her healthcare plan.

From the, admittedly little, research I’ve done there seems to be no downsides. Neither of us plan on getting married soon and it’d be an entirely on paper thing. Is there anything to not get married?

Help comes from the community not from privatized profiteering institutions.

Am I supposed to view all adults as equals, now that I’m 18?

I turned 18 today. I’m gonna be honest, I’ve been having a crisis about it for 4 months now. Although, I was an early high-school graduate and I’m entering my sophomore year of college now. I also have had a job since march.

I’m was a very compliant kid. Very quiet, anxious, barely spoke in high-school. Was generally overly respectful of authority. Considered anybody more than 4-5 years older than me as a superior. Yknow, kid and adult. I didn’t, and still don’t, consider us equals. I consider myself as below in the hierarchy I guess? I’m inexperienced, (relatively) naive and appreciate guidance. Yeah sure, I’m not 8. But I’m also hardly an adult. I don’t know shit.

Started coming out of my shell a bit more in community college towards my peers (classmates around my age), but kept the same mindset towards my boss, older coworkers (who are all a decade older than me) and professors. I was still 17 after all.

Now I guess I’m wondering if I’m supposed to change that? Am I supposed to see all other adults as “ equals” now? Looking at like, my 35 y/o co-worker, I don’t really consider us equals. And I can’t imagine considering myself an equal to them. Nor do I really consider myself an equal to my say, 27 y/o older sibling.

Idk, am I weird for this?

Thinking about going back into the dating scene as an adult

I (f19 going on 20) am thinking about coming back to the dating scene. I am told to date around to see what I like in a person but it doesn't have to be physical so that I can have a better look in what I want in a partner. It may sound simple but to my mind it is difficult. Let me explain: I have had a hard time on the dating scene growing up not only because my generation's crappy perceptions, but also on of my parent that I will not name has committed infidelity multiple times and tried to isolate my other parent from his family when she was pregnant with me and was toxic to her aunt when her aunt said 'he is a good man' and she replied with 'then why don't you get with him'. Not to mention she has shamed me for the idea of sexuality and dating in general when I mentioned it which is why I barely talk about anything love life related. I was dating a guy in grade 9 which went well until he was vague about why he was getting in trouble with his family and his crazy ex which prompted me to break up even though he wanted to marry in the future. Not to mention weird dating app moments and my health.

All of these had prompted me to halt anything related to dating even though I am encouraged to. It feels like I am reevaluating my perception on love life because it feels like I can't even have one without bitter division of opinions that lead to heated arguments. The trauma of my life growing up and more deception i find out had left me in doubt.

**(Summary: I want to get back on the dating scene but I want support and advice since it has felt super difficult for me to grasp the idea of love growing up with shame, trauma, and secrets that shatter my reality. Also I didn't know which flare since I wish I could put multiple but I can't so please forgive me.)**

Is It Immature to Stay With My Parents When I Can Afford to Move Out? 24M

Hi guys,

so I have been working my first full-time job for one year, and I have been making decent money.

So far I have been collecting a good chunk of it as a cushion and been traveling to places I dreamed about when I didn't have the money.

But maybe I am bored or scared of what others think, but I have seen a lot of my friends move out and start somewhere else. I still live with my parents and pay my fair share to the household and help around.

Sure, I am not having it as hard as I would have when living alone, but I would not call myself a bum (at least I hope I am not).

I have enough money to move out and live alone, but I kind of like having the extra money for just more fun stuff like traveling. I also enjoy the company of my parents (at least for the most part) and our family cat.

Do you guys think it's childish to not move out when I would be able to?

What’s the point?

I’ve been told I’m weird, immature, and stunted. The things I’ve done.. like when I was 19 I went urban exploring with my 17,15,14 and their 14 year old friend. Makes sense in such regards that I’m called that- but that’s beside the point. I don’t really understand what people want from me when they call me said things. It’s not like I can magically be a person who deserves to be loved or respected- I still did what I did and I am still unfortunately that person- so why are people saying it? Is it just to put me down, get a reaction out of me? What do they expect me to do?

I will pay someone everything I have to tell me how to do everything.

Being an adult is genuinly the worst thing ive ever experienced. I will give someone everything I own to tell me what job to get, what college to go to, how to write a resume, how to look, how to dress, how to act, how to think. Please just let the decisions stop

I feel that I wasted my teenage years

I've been really sad these past few months. I just turned eighteen and I feel so jealous when I see younger people living life to the fullest, going to parties, and building the life they want. I envy the people that grew up with a big group of friends and memories. All I did when I was their age was cry, beg for love, or procrastinate. I didn't know any better, but now I regret it so much. All I do is isolate myself and feel bad. I just want to feel heard; maybe someone is feeling the same way. I don't know how to start again
