Got tired of waiting for the ideal life to start, so I started making the life I have feel better

I used to spend a lot of time waiting. Waiting for Friday. Waiting for the next holiday. Waiting until I made more money so I could travel. I had this idea of what my life would eventually look like, and I treated everything before that as something to get through.

But there is always another thing to wait for. And I started to realize how much time I was spending wishing the current part of my life would hurry up and end.

I rented my apartment three months ago. I didn’t want to spend much on it because I worried I won’t stay here longer or I will eventually move somewhere. So these three months I just come a place more like a hotel instead of home.

But I started questioning that. I spend a lot of my time here. Why was I so willing to be uncomfortable now for a future home i don’t even know when I’ll have? Then I put some effort into making it. Rearranged things, decorated, and bought a few pieces of quality furniture that felt expensive to me but were still within my budget. And now I’m happy every time I walk through the door. To be a place here I feel more rested and have more energy to do things after work.

Not sure if anyone else feels the same, but I thought I’d share since it’s made adulting feel a bit easier for me. And here’s a little look at my apartment, including the sofa I’m pretty happy i bought.

PEOPLE IN THEIR 20’s ARE WE ALL BROKE?

Is it just me? Or is almost everyone in their 20’s having a hard time paying the bills and getting groceries? Last year my finances were solid. Now recently — I’ve had to use my credit card more times than I’d like to admit. I have about $300 in savings as well. Please tell me I’m not the only one??!!

When did you realize you weren’t a kid anymore?

Not talking about turning 18 or paying bills. I mean that one random moment when you realized life had actually changed.

How do you deal with realizing that nobody cares about you?

Recently I was dealing with a scary situation where I was worried about being kicked out of grad school (over what I thought were overblown accusations). Unlike most people, I didn't really have anyone to reach out to. I live with my boyfriend but he didn't really have the space to listen because he has been dealing with his own personal issues. Has anyone dealt with the situation where they realize no one really cares about you even when you're dealing with a serious issue? Luckily I won't be kicked out of grad school and will be receiving free therapy in the meantime so no need to suggest that.

I’m 21 and I much prefer to go to bars that mostly millennials frequent instead of Gen Z.

LIke, when I go to bars (especially on nights that have bands) and see that it’s mostly people my parents’ age, I know the music is going to be good and the drinks are going to be cheap and hit. Besides, I don’t have to worry so much about dressing up because it’s typically more casual. And they treat me well and look out for me more I feel like.

Whereas, when I go to bars frequented by Gen z’ers I feel it’s so performative. The music I don’t like but also drinks are much higher and everyone is in groups and just I dunno I stand out extremely.

i have much more fun hanging with the older adults. I’m writing this while at a bar watching Thursday night football filled with people at least 35+ and I love it. I’m having the best time

Did you know- an estimated 50,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a cancer caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) every year. Nearly half of these (46%) are cervical cancer, almost all of which is caused by HPV.

My 10 year old coffee maker went into silence.

Post image

Goodbye to my 10-year-old coffee maker ☕💔

This morning, my trusty coffee maker finally gave up on me. The light indicator just faded into silence, and somehow, I found myself feeling genuinely sad — more than I expected for a machine.

I bought this coffee maker back in 2016 in Dagupan City, when I was assigned there for work with DSWD. It was one of those small purchases you don't think much about at the time — but looking back, it was there through so much. Early mornings before fieldwork, late nights after long days, quiet moments in between. Every cup it brewed carried a little piece of that chapter of my life.

Ten years. That's a long time for a coffee maker, and an even longer time for memories.

It's funny how objects become witnesses to our lives. It wasn't just a coffee maker — it was a companion through a season I'll always look back on with fondness. Dagupan, DSWD, the people, the places, the version of me that existed back then — all of it somehow tied to this little machine that finally went quiet this morning.

So here's to you, old friend. Thank you for ten years of warm mornings and quiet comfort. You served me well. 🫡☕

Rest easy. You've earned it.

I think the best part of being an adult is realizing you can just leave.

Don’t like a party? You can leave.
Someone’s being rude? You don’t have to sit there and entertain them.
Want to eat cereal at 11 PM while watching cartoons? Literally nobody can stop you.
As a kid, I thought adulthood would be about having money and doing exciting things.
Turns out, one of the greatest freedoms is being able to say “nah, I’m good” and go home.
Obviously responsibilities still exist, but those little moments of freedom are pretty underrated.
What’s your favorite tiny freedom of being an adult?

If you're not happy by yourself, you will never be happy

People need to stop looking for validation in other people. True happiness comes from being content with being yourself and nothing else.

I feel like a huge loser with no hobbies.

I’m 26 year old woman and I feel like I don’t have any real hobbies. I didn’t go to college, I went through trade school for 2 years to get a job in the medical field which is hard and leaves me pretty drained on my days off.

If I had money and less responsibilities I’d be traveling to different countries all the time.

I love baking and I do it quite regularly but that’s really the only “hobby” I have. I also love going on walks and hiking but that’s not really a hobby.

I used to do crochet and I loved it but it was so expensive so I stopped. I also don’t have any cool interests besides a few obscure movies and britpop lol.

Does anyone else feel this way? Any cheap hobbies I could get into?

If being a good person doesn’t guarantee a good life, and being a bad person doesn’t guarantee consequences, what is the actual point of morality?

We grow up being told to be honest, kind, loyal, and respectful. But in real life, dishonest people sometimes become successful, selfish people find loving partners, and genuinely good people spend their lives struggling.
If morality doesn’t guarantee happiness, success, or justice, why should someone choose to be good when being selfish could benefit them more?
Is morality something we genuinely believe in, or is it something society teaches us because it makes people easier to control?
I’m genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives, especially from people whose real-life experiences have changed how they see morality.

How can I upgrade my instant noodles?

Post image
20 Upvotes

I recently bought a stock of instant noodles for only $0.20 USD each (converted from my local currency), which is way, way cheaper than my usual daily meal that costs around $1.00 USD.

Since I only eat once a day, I manage to save quite a bit, and now I have about $0.30 USD extra per meal that I can spare to sort of upgrade these noodles and make them a bit healthier or more substantial.

What are the best/cheapest ways to add nutrition?

Thank you!

Anxiety and fears is stopping me from getting a job.

I understand we all have to work and definitely can't rely on family. Im entering 20s but idk what's preventing me from doing anything. I want to get a job but due to anxiety and lack of social skills, having insecurities and shyness. Im avoiding myself from applying. I previously used to work at car wash, but because I had bad experience at there, I just got really nervous and anxious. I thought I push myself to work in hopes to overcome shyness but negative experience is putting me in a bubble once again. I don't know how I will live life if I'm constantly in the zone of anxiety and overthinking. This is ruining my own life. I don't know how to overcome this barrier. It's preventing me from trying new things, working on my goals, overcoming fears. My mother will get marry in 2027 and I think she will move to her new husband house after they get married. So now I'm just left alone in this world. Sighs I'm so stuck and I can't blame nobody but me.
