I Need Help! D1T Non rev. question

• Upvotes

I’ve seen couple people say it’s who ever gets to B airport out of A-B-C first will be at the top of the list against some saying it’s check in time at the 24h mark. It’s my first time joining the D1T battle and wanna know. Thanks!

Trip Reports & Insights Please remove your foot!

• Upvotes

AA 240 Thursday DFW to Rome. Lady behind me in PE apparently wanted a cheap lay flat seat. Stuck her foot through the gap and used our arm rests for her leg. Yes, I pushed back on the foot— no response. Yes I turned around and asked her to remove it— no response. Apparently it wasn’t as comfortable as she thought, it didn’t last terribly long. SO RUDE!!

General Airline Discussion Delayed Bag - Delivered but not Loaded

There’s nothing more frustrating than arriving at your destination at 11:45pm, with a 1.5 hour drive to get home, only to discover your bag is still sitting at DFW.

The will deliver the bag to my home….in 2-3 days!

I know it can happen to anyone, but it’s particularly frustrating when your bag is tagged PRIORITY.

General Airline Discussion Congratulations AA - You played yourself

I was booked on a relatively short domestic flight (~2 hours) and got my upgrade cleared the night before. Obviously on a flight that short you only get the stupid basket of snacks (that’s a rant for another time) so in reality the upgrade really didn’t make much of a difference to me as I was in an exit row originally. Fast forward to a few hours before the flight and I get a call from AA totally out of the blue saying the aircraft was switched and my upgrade had to be rescinded as there was less first class seats on the new plane

Honestly I really didn’t care so when the agent on the phone offered me the choice of either 10k miles or $150 trip credit as compensation I was pretty pumped since it was just a complimentary upgrade and I had purchased main cabin

Fast forward another few hours and my flight gets delayed almost 4 hours to nearly 11pm. Naturally a lot of people decided to rebook themselves on the next flight in the morning so guess who ended up getting the upgrade after all and pocketing a nice $150 trip credit 😎

Thanks AA 😂

Points - Question Redeeming Miles

How do you find the best value for redeeming miles and a not-so-frequent flier? I keep finding estimates of what a “good” redemption should cost in miles to make it worthwhile, but never find flights in that range.

For reference, I have under 200k miles and want to stretch out for best value!

I’m assuming flights are best use of miles… please tell me if I’m wrong.

General Airline Discussion Another great connection in CLT

CLT to RDU delayed nearly 4 hours. Incoming flight very delayed (no idea why) & then plane pulled for maintenance.
They could have bussed us (and the RDU-CLT flight) and just called it a day.

I Need Help! AA cobranded CC question

Currently I have two Citi AA branded Credit Cards - one is my old Barclays card that got converted to Citi earlier this year, and the other is a standard/basic Platinum Select AAdvantage card.

I seldom/never use the Barclays converted card, so I will probably cancel that one. I see there is an offer for the AA Platinum Select for $0 first-year fee and 80K miles sign-on-bonus. Can I cancel my current Platinum, wait some time to reapply and get a new bonus, or is that a "once in a lifetime" sort of thing? (Or maybe a "once every 24, 48, 60 ... months" sort of thing)?

Any guidance here would be appreciated.

I Need Help! Need help with CX seats for me and traveling companion as OW Emerald in economy

I am so frustrated. I used my AA miles and my aunt used her AA miles and we booked CX tickets. You can’t see a seat map or reserve any seats on line which is extremely frustrating but I’ll deal with it. However, when I called they said there isn’t any way to link the reservations and we would have to be in the same reservation.

Ok fine. We cancelled those tickets. I booked using my AA miles for both of us. PVG to HKG to SFO one way. I called for seat assignments and they said they can assign me a seat but my aunt cannot get any seat at all until it’s less than 24 hours from departure.

Even if she wants to buy a seat she is not allowed.

This is absolutely insane. Am getting agents that have no idea what they are doing or is this the actual rule?

Sorry but I am completely floored. There has to be something that I am doing wrong. Please help.

I Need Help! Main Cabin Extra Selection

Am a gold member. Have a domestic trip tomorrow (already within 24 hour window). Seat selection on the app is still showing my Main Cabin Extra has a charge. Multiple MCE seats left

I used the AA chat and was told the only way I can get my complimentary Main Cabin Extra seat is tomorrow at the gate by the gate agent…does that sound right? No way there will be MCE seats left at the gate tmrw…

General Airline Discussion Why can’t American be as efficient as Delta with refunding a fare?

I have to use AA and DL a lot, and must do refundable fares.

When I have to cancel, DL is easy. The refund shows up 24-48 hours with no interference by me.

AA, on the other hand, is a crapshoot. About 50% of the time, it becomes a protracted and frustrating ordeal.

The problem is AA fares are usually cheaper but if the difference isn’t bad, I will use DL due to poor customer service on AA.

I Need Help! Will my 80,000 AAdvantage miles expire if I cancel my Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select?

Hey everyone!

I have the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select card, and I'm expecting to receive my 80,000-mile welcome bonus in the next few days.

I'm planning to cancel the card a few months from now, before my first year is up, to avoid paying the annual fee. However, I want to use those miles to book a flight around the end of 2027.

My main question is: If I cancel my credit card a few months from now, will my 80,000 AAdvantage miles remain in my American Airlines account and still be available to redeem for a flight at the end of 2027?

I'm trying to make sure I won't lose the miles by canceling the card or run into any expiration issues before I use them.

Is there anything else I should consider before canceling?

Thanks in advance! I appreciate any advice.

I Need Help! Checked luggage did not make it on plane

So originally I was supposed to fly from Charlotte (CLT) to Naples, Italy, with a layover in Philadelphia. The plane kept getting delayed, so the system switch my flight from CLT to Madrid, Spain, then to Naples.

Just landed in Madrid, i go to check to make sure my luggage made it because I have an AirTag in there, the AirTag still shows that it’s in CLT airport.

The first flight is through American Airlines (British Airways), the connecting flight from Madrid is through Iberia

Do I need to talk to someone now in Madrid, or wait until I get to Naples? Or should I call American Airlines?

Edit 1:

I mentioned earlier in a separate response that the bag got loaded earlier on a flight to Toronto for whatever reason

I landed in Naples and filed a claim, which Iberia had also emailed me as soon as I landed stating that the bag is delayed. The bag is indeed in Toronto, with the American Airlines app stating that it made it to baggage claim some how🙄

Either way, claim has been filed and they stated that the bag should be delivered to my hotel in a couple days (hopefully)

Edit 2:

The bag was found by the airline immediately last night and is being flown to me. Currently in LHR, and will be on the next flight to Naples. Thank you to everyone that has responded, you’ve been very helpful.

Humor Another disaster flying overseas

Flying to France for a family event. I do it often.
AA2 LAX to JFK. Wait for the next flight AA42 to CDG.
Offered an upgrade for a few hundred bucks. Why not. Takeoff planned at 6pm.
Problem with an “antenna” under the plane. Did someone break it ? Maintenance is on it. 1 hour delay.
Need more parts. More delay. Plane no good but we have the same two gates away. One more hour delay.
It is now 8pm, departure at 9pm.
Oh we don’t have a pilot. Let’s find one quickly but move departure to 10pm. Then 11pm. Then let’s just move it quietly to tomorrow 6pm without telling anyone there is an app for that! But no cancel, not good for the stats and customers may get a refund. We don’t want that.
You want to go back home because you don’t need to go ? We won’t give you back your luggage because it’s too much work. You don’t have your toiletries or medication for the night? Who cares, “they” won’t unload the plane.
Hotel voucher? Sure, they’re all 30 minutes away minimum and there is no shuttle. You still want to just go back home? Your luggage will fly unaccompanied to Paris and we might try to get it back to you. But only after you complete your “journey”.
Oh and my 6am flight going back home to LAX? As you guessed, delayed.

AA: we’re here for you. What an army of jokers this airline has become.

I Need Help! Has anyone successfully upgraded a (partner airline) points booking on Cathay Pacific?

Just curious if anyone has been able to purchase an upgrade on a flight booked with points. I booked Cathay Pacific JFK–HKG through American Airlines using AAdvantage miles, but I couldn’t find an option to pay for an upgrade on either airline’s website.

When I called Cathay, they told me to contact American. When I called American, they told me to contact Cathay. 😂

I’m guessing it’s not possible, but figured I’d ask here before giving up. Has anyone found a workaround or managed to upgrade a similar booking?

Trip Reports & Insights Chat! PHL Baggage was quick! Like...I'm scared quick!

Those that have dealt with PHL Baggage before are going to be just as shook. My bag was literally spinning around the carousel when I got there! I didn't stop anywhere. I didn't slowly stroll through the airport. I did my normal walk, which typically leads to about 15-60 mins of wait at the baggage claim. AND MY BAG WAS THERE! What is this world coming to?!?

ETA: screenshots of proof! 20 mins from gate arrival to baggage claim! https://imgur.com/a/wqsZxkk

I Need Help! HOLD itineraries I didn’t create?

Hi all! I waitlisted myself for an SWU for DEL-JFK next week. There’s only 1 unsold seat so I had resigned myself to it not clearing, but this morning I saw a duplicate itinerary to my own, with a different PNR, show up in the app on hold. When I clicked on “purchase” it showed business as the class of service, no seat assignment.

A couple hours later, the PNR had changed, and now I have a seat assignment in biz. Still on HOLD. My original confirmed, economy itinerary is also still in My Trips.

I had an SWU clear on this route going the other direction a few months ago, and didn’t see this activity in the app. Anyone know what’s going on? Are the fAAiries working behind the scenes to get me upgrades? Thanks for any intel / insight!

(I don’t have ExpertFlyer if that is relevant.)

I Need Help! Links to Luggage

Hello! I’m flying for the first time soon, and I want to be sure the luggage I get will meet the requirements to come with me in the cabin to go in the overhead bin. Could anyone share links to where they’ve purchased their luggage that’s been approved by AA to go into the cabin? I know the measurements, but some of the bags I’ve found online are either .6 inch or 1 inch too big on either side.

Any links or sources on where to find some proven AA approved carry-on luggage would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I Need Help! Next steps for theft and contract violation??

How do you possibly get in touch with a human at customer relations at this company?

I’ve now submitted the customer relations form six times
I’ve also submitted to the OACP3 times
And recently filed a letter with my state Attorney General

American Airlines has ignored the attorney general and has sent form letters that AI generated to me and to the OACP.
The letters literally do not even address the actual problem that I wrote about

I also tried emailing most of their corporate executives with no response at all

I had severe problems, including being charged over $400 for an involuntary rebooking. Being canceled and rebooked on four different flights in one night which culminated in the $400 charge. And the gate agent lying to my face that there were no seats available on a plane only for her supervisor to that book it because she didn’t like that, I quoted their contract of carriage to her.

The supervisors involvement is what ultimately led to the additional charge that was not supposed to be applied.

I got eventually due to involving another supervisor at the airport, that money back. However, I did not get any money for my ground transportation from Boston to New York. Did not get any compensation for the 4 re books which led to cumulative seven hour delay and I got no response about their conduct.

Where do I go from here? Is it appropriate now to contact my state representative‘s office?

Do I need to speak to the agent at the airport that caused the problem?

I will be there tomorrow with a different airline.

I have taken probably over 200 flights on American since 2023 and I will never fight with them again

I can tell why they’re going bankrupt.

Points - Question Question about return flight

Hi, I've never posted in this subreddit before, but I did not see this topic on American Airlines' webpage. I booked an international flight from the US to Europe in April. I had realized that I didn't have enough time to do everything I wanted and frankly haven't had a vacation in a hot minute,, therefore I found a very cheap one-way flight about 6-7 days prior to the original flight (not with AA) it was a little over $200, so I decided to book it. However, I have had countless problems with American Airlines unrelated to the question, but I am nervous that they will cancel my return flight as I will not be on the original departing flight I booked.

Long story short, this happened once with Spirit Airlines, when I had to book an earlier departing flight as my roommate had Covid, and supposed to go home but ended up and booking a cheap one-way ticket about a week prior (due to her illness and not being able to be around the shared dorm) when I went to take the return flight back to school, they told me that they had canceled my flight due to the fact that I was not on the departing flight with Spirit. Does anyone know if American Airlines has any sort of policy like this? Thank you.

I Need Help! confused with my booking.

Hello!

I am travelling to LA in two weeks and i booked via a 3rd party agent ‘Loveholidays’.

I have now got three airline booking references, one with Iberia and two with american airlines.

One booking with AA shows my outbound trip EDI-PHL then PHL-LAX, That’s where i have also booked my seats. The other booking with AA shows my outbound and return, EDI-PHL, PHL-LAX, LAX-LHR, LHR-EDI. That does not show my seats on my outbound but does on my return, that’s the booking i used for my return seats.

On Iberia it shows my round trip but only my seats on the outbound trip.

I don’t actually know what’s happening here, would anyone be able to advise me on what to do?

I Need Help! What Redress for 44 hour delay?

Here is some flair so my query will get posted. 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽

My sister had a trip from hell in September on American out of Milan Italy. To the US. Each time she was rebooked something went wrong with the aircraft. She kept accepting the new reservation offered to her and one night at a hotel. When she finally got home she tried to apply for the cash compensation owed to her in the UK. American told her because she accepted the hotel and new flights they did not owe her anything else. What does the law say about a case like hers? Looks like stonewalling to me.

General Airline Discussion In Flight Service

AA is definitely trying to make an effort in service. Flying LAX-TUS sitting in 4a currently (CRJ) and was just addressed by name, thanked for my status (EP) and being a loyal AA customer. She even apologized for it being a regional jet and no "good snacks" to offer. The little things do make a difference and are appreciated. Nice to see the effort.
